I never really get threads like this. I get the idea of them, but it just never makes sense to me. You never 'have to' include something in a setting, it's all about what it contributes to your setting, and that varies immensely depending on your group and the style of game.

I have a player who really likes catgirls, so I include a catgirl race in our D&D settings because it's something he enjoys, finding or homebrewing appropriate stats depending on the flavour of the system and fitting them into the world in the most natural way I can.
