What are some good commandments or divine law, given by the chief god, that paladins can live by and fight for?

One of my problems is that it is a somewhat pagan world, so theft and killing would not be as bad as it is in our modern moral conception.

> you shall not slay your kin
> you shall not steal from your nation
> you shall not have more than 3 wives
> you shall not consort with demons
> you shall not rebel against the gods or their agents

Thou shalt not lie to thy king under oath

No gay shit!

Pretty sure even non-Christians disapprove of theft.

thou shalt not kill?

But that's gonna be hard cus evildoers sure needs killing and kings tend to go to war a lot...

Obey the Lord in all his commands and you will be Saved!

Disturbing the Dead is usually a big no-no
So is dabbling in sorcery and domains of the gods

Don't be a dick

>Pagan world
>Less moral then our currently screwed up world that has been absolutely raped by Massive monotheistic cults actively enforcing immoral and antisocial behavior on the populace

Pick one. Some ancient Pagan societies already had gender and racial equality before Christianity screwed them over.

So how about:

Thou shalt respect all of the neighbors as equals.

Thou shalt extend Hospitality in good faith only.

Thou Shalt show Mercy to the children of thine enemies, as well as their livestock and slaves.

By deed and example, by word and act shall ye show thine faith and spread the glory of the gods, Never by Force of Arms.

Whomsoever strikes a child in anger shall suffer the Wrath of all who see him, show the gods look up on him not.

By slaves are bondsmen only until their debt is paid. They cannot be traded nor past to thy children.

Thy slaves are to be extended the rights of hospitality so long as they serve you and treated fairly as any other employee.

>Thou shalt respect all of the neighbors as equals.
what if we gotta war on them?
>Thou shalt extend Hospitality in good faith only.

>Thou Shalt show Mercy to the children of thine enemies, as well as their livestock and slaves.
but we can enslave and eat them, right?
>By deed and example, by word and act shall ye show thine faith and spread the glory of the gods, Never by Force of Arms.
Even the war-god?
>Whomsoever strikes a child in anger shall suffer the Wrath of all who see him, show the gods look up on him not.

>By slaves are bondsmen only until their debt is paid. They cannot be traded nor past to thy children.
then why have slaves?
>Thy slaves are to be extended the rights of hospitality so long as they serve you and treated fairly as any other employee.
why not just have employees then?

define being a dick

Thou shalt speak only truth
Thou actions shalt be rightous in the eyes of the gods
Thou shalt pledge thy life to thy cause
Thou shalt hold no land, nor material possessions, save those granted you through thy actions
Thou shalt protect the weak, the young, the helpless
Thou shalt serve wehn asked for, if the cause is righteous
Thou shalt not be judge, nor jury, but thou shalt be executioner if need be

>Your Lord is your master, you shall obey
>The law is your foundation, you must uphold it
>Your kin is your life, you must protect it
>Redemption is key to all, you will spare a life that concedes

>thou shalt not murder

Wow, hard

>Children are under the lords protection, he who prays upon an infant, shall have his skin flayed and his eyes plucked so that he may face gods judgement as a worm.

>An oath is a contract made in the lords presents, doom waits for those who betray his bond.

>Honor thy ancestors, to change or pervert ones name is a corruption

>Lies plant trees from which traitors are hanged.

>Let Mercy be your shield. Let it protect you from grim fatalism and the weak from evil.
>Let Justice be your sword. Strike back at those who defy your mercy and threaten the innocent.

ONLY gay shit.

Not him, but:

>what if we gotta war on them?
No one ever has to war on anyone. Anything you want from war you could get far more easily from trade.

>Even the war-god?
That is not a god, but a demon.

Conversely, a lot of religions, pagan or Christian or otherwise, forbade killing but also contained an element of ritualistic purification that absolved the “sin” of your killing. In Christianity, petitioning God’s forgiveness or claiming it is divinely ordained might suffice.

In paganism any sort of ritualistic purification can work, such as the use of a scapegoat, like a sacrificed animal before battle, or some sort of blood price.
