Only one of these things are true though.

The reason elves dominated was their magic phases and assorted bullshit magic items, ASF wasn't that overwhelming.
The rule change made it so charging didn't grant you asf.

It was a good change. Charges not giving ASF put a lot less importance on them, meaning you don't have to resort to cavalry at all times.

I have a feeling that after the Storm of Chaos there would've eventually been a fight between Franz and Grimgor, and Grimgor would've gotten right smashed to bits. Even some Orc lovers didn't like that Grimgor did become something of a Mary Sue, way back when. Still better than whatever the fuck GW turned him into over in ET/AOS land though.

The chariot isn't really a replacement for infantry unless you're Beastmen. They fulfill different roles.

If you go the dwarf way, you can find really cheap figures from the battle of skull pass box, that a lot of people sell on ebay and other stuffs

Rules question for you 9th'ers.
If a character has both universal special rules and unique ones just for that unit, does those get invalidated if he gets a magic weapon?

More specifically I'm wondering if a witch hunter, which ordinarily gets reroll to wound against units with channel and the lethal strike rule, loses this when I buy him a hammer of witches which gives him 5 attacks and battle focus against units with channel?
That weapon seems like the perfect fit for him.

Infantry is important but far from mandatory. You could replace them with chariots if you want a speed orientated list. I once hade a chariot of Nurgle sucessfully occupy a horde of Bleakspears for two rounds.

The Holy Roman Empire actually had 2 armies. The Reichsarmee (locally administered troops under the control of various lords) and the Kaiserliche (the private army of the Habsburgs under the control of the Emperor).

Interestingly enough, the latter fielded more troops (52,000 men and 10,000 cavalry in the Kaiserliche vs. 30,000 men and 12,000 cavalry for the Reichsarmee)

What's the WHFB equivalent of this? State Troops seem to be the Reichsarmee equivalent but do the emperor's have their own personal fighting forces?

I'm not sure how strongly a dwarf feels about lying and its relationship to honor, so maybe that's actually covered. But I could see a Slayer lying if it helped him reach his mighty doom or avoided tarnishing his honor by admitting to something dishonorable. I'm not sure where the dwarves really draw the line between personal and public shame.

Technically you could count the Rieksguard, which does have mounted and infantry units (Rieksguard/Imperial Cavalry and Imperial Foot). But they are a more elite force rather than a whole army, so if you wanted something more fitting that you might look to Altdorf or Reikland and what state troops would be directly under the control of Karl Franz in his title of Prince of Riekland. I imagine Magnus the Pious would have done the same with forces from Nuln, and arguably what he may have intended when he formed the Knights Griffon.

What date is that information from? The HRM spans a ridiculous amount of time, so it kind of depends on when we're talking about.

That said, as usual the earlier material is a lot more historically-based and detailed than the later material, so The Enemy Within actually had a good deal of information about the Emperor's private army. Pic related.

Also, since the Empire is bigger than the HRE and much more at risk of being attacked by small armies of raiders than state-level conflicts, I'd imagine that the Electors would have more substantial armies of their own.
But it would make sense if the Imperial Guard made up the bulk of the Reikland's forces.

Black orcs are way too underused. They are not too expensive even with shields, can be put against any kind of unit and can work alone outside of character bubbles due to ld8, ItP and no animosity. A unit of 21 w/ gleaming pendant can be deployed anywhere on the table and will support the main line by tanking, grinding or can-opening, any way you need. Just don't pitch them alone against hordes of witch elves or trolls, of fucking course they are not gonna vaporize a full combat unit by themselves.

Also, what do you think about putting a nurgle sorcerer lord on a palanquin? The extra wound might come in handy, it saves on warrior cost and the large base would allow for a good reaching Nurgle's Rot. The six s3 wounds might also compensate for the lower amount of warrior attacks, especially if you buff the unit with poison attacks.

I finished my noble on manticore, but I’m having trouble taking a photo from a decent angle. I may have screwed up a bit on the composition, since a good angle might not exist.

They're even better in 9th where they have plate armour. Still woefully underused though.
