What are some interesting minor (common/uncommon) magic items for 5e that makes good loot? My players thirst for magic trinkets.
>stones of recall: place one stone at the start of a dungeon (or within 1 km). When the partner stone is activated, you teleport to the 1st stone
>baugh of holly staff: a druid holding this may use it as a spell focus, may learn a bonus cantrip as long as it is on the druid spell list, and can use it as a quarterstaff
>rabbits foot: once per day you may reroll 1 roll. You MUST keep the new result, and overrides any ability that states otherwise or allows you to roll again.
>ring of the cat: the ring has 9 charges. When reduced below 0, roll as normal for life/death. Whenever you roll 1-10, accept the death point as normal, but you also expend a charge to recieve a life point. You can benefit from this ring twice per day. Once all 9 charges are gone, it turns into an ordinary silver ring.
>horn of bear roaring: all beast type creatures of cr 4 or lower must make a DC 13 wisdom save or be frightened for 1 minute. Bears of any kind recieve an advantage on this save.
>horn of birdcalling: pick a bird. Once per day you can use the horn to make their mating call. Birds that hear this must make a dc 13 wisdom save or be compelled to come within 30 feet.

Looking for some cool 1H axes or crossbows (either magical or techy “repeater” versions)

>some cool 1H axes or crossbows

The Transaxetion
>killing a person with this fancy gilded axe makes their body explode into a pile of copper coins

The Hacking Tool
>When you deal damage to a Construct with this axe, it must make a DC10 will saving throw. If it fails, it joins your side for 1 round.

The Gap Closer and Also Opener
>If you successfully throw this axe at a target, you will instantly teleport to the target, with the axe in your hand.

The Question Axer
>If you kill someone with this axe, with their dying breath they will tell you one of their secrets.

>crossbows

The Cross Bow
>This sentient crossbow has anger issues. Once per round, you may shout abuse at this weapon, forcing it to make a DC15 will save. If it fails the save, it will deal an additional 1d4 damage per hit for the rest of the encounter.

Dwarven Bottle Cannon
>This crossbow fires bottles, or bottle-sized objects. It deals nonlethal damage, although the contents of the bottles may still be deadly.

Orcish Crossbow
>This crossbow is actually a small goblin archer which is strapped to the wielder's chest. The wielder makes attack rolls with his Intimidate skill instead of making normal ranged attacks. If the wielder takes 10 damage from any source, the crossbow dies.

Hey Veeky Forums, do you guys have any ideas for a heavy metal instrument of the bards, or a living weapon/lute kind of thing? I'm an unexperienced DM bullshitting a campaign that my players are surprisingly having fun with, and I'm having writer's block coming up with unique loot. The party is currently DOOMing it through hell, and they're about to fight an Elite Tauren Chieftain type guy in the middle of a demon mosh pit. If they actually manage to defeat the guy, I want his instrument to feel so good to the bard, who's flavored his character to be as skald as possible. Pic related is the model I might use.

stone of recall is gamebreakingly good. like, so good i would rule the world with it.

Now there's two? My notoriety grows...

Illuminating Draught

A bottle crafted using a low-end, somewhat unstable alchemical process which causes the bottle's inside to leak magic into it's contents.
With a bit of experimentation, it was found that anything poured into the bottle lit up, and conferred a weakened effect of the fluid inside to anything touched by the fluid's light.
It's unknown what would happen if a Potion of Illumination was poured in, but several enchanters have recommended the use of blackglasses should such an act be attempted.

Alfric's Death Certificate

Also known as the Sword of Body and Mind, and the Double Stroke Sword, the Death Certificate was forged and enchanted by notoriously paranoid raider, Alfric the Doubtful, to ensure his enemies stayed dead. The green prong infects the victim's body with a wasting disease which would slowly but surely desecrate the corpse beyond conventional resurrection, and the blue prong could either shear the soul to pieces or damage the victim's mental faculties so that even if a conventional resurrection was mounted, the victim would be locked in their own unresponsive body. The sword was found embedded in a corpse later proven to be Alfric himself.

Joyous Cavalry Sabre

A cavalry sabre belonging to known mesenate king Hevin Albrechtsson. It's thought to be the source of his considerable wealth. Any blood spilled with the blade turns to unmarked, featureless gold discs. The blade has remained locked deep in the Hevin Academy of Magic for it's greed-fueling powers.

Virgo

An odd lute without a clear origin. No matter how the lute is tuned, the resulting voice resembles mechanical roaring and howling. Battle ballads played with the lute have been proven to have not only an increased effect on the intended target, but a similar effect on any semi-barbaric races nearby. Several barbarians have remarked the lute has a pleasant tone.

Dragon Scarab

A turquoise-studded gold pendant designed in the image of a dragon scarab.
While ostensibly used only by Osiran priests to summon spectral scarabs for combat support, the pendants do have a secondary function increasing strength and lung capacity of the wearer.

Dwarven Runelock

What seems like an ornate, hefty padlock with an easily replicable key is in fact an elaborate pocket plane manager.
The lock's loop opens on both ends, depending on whether it's locked or unlocked, allowing the lock to be attached and connected to any door with a padlock latch.
The key only ever connects to a specific lock, and thus a specific set of pocket planes, which is chosen by activating a series of runes on the key.
After the lock is unlocked, the door it was connected to opens to the pocket plane selected.

The Iron Crown of the Ilmebeans

A cast-iron crown which exudes a constant cold draft when worn, cooling the area around the wearer.
Initially worn by the Ilmebean queen during their expansion and subsequent capital transport to a desert region, it has since been passed down in the royal family.
The crown is only given to the one next in line on summer solstice, known locally as the Day of Heat.

Starlight Leggings

A pair of leggings crafted by some disgruntled genie.
Similar to some genieguise leggings, Starlight Leggings transform the wearer's legs into a genielike wisp when the wearer rubs their legs together while they're crossed.
While usually not enough to fool a true genie, some genies craft theirs well enough to fool even the King of Djinn, solely for the purpose of exacting revenge on another genie.
