>What droids are featured in your campaigns as pcs or npcs?
In a legends post-RotJ campaign I plan on running once my group's current Pathfinder campaign is over, one of my players has shown great interest in playing an HK unit of some kind. Which works out well for me, as it'll tie in fairly well with an Old Republic-related plot I've been planning to be a part of it.
I'm also aiming to add the Zann Consortium as a notable faction in the sector the players will be running around in, so I'll have to find some stats for Droidekas.

Have any of you anons created your own little pocket of the galaxy, either for campaigns or for fun?
Any notable factions or characters in it?
Ayden Martinez
;^( No, what for really? There are thousands of worlds in the old continuity, you can just pick and choose whatever you like. Geographic proximity isn't an issue most of the time either.
Lucas Torres
Is the Galactic Empire's military really the military made to fight a galactic conflict?
In some debates, I've seen their dismal performance attributed to the fact that the Imperial military is nothing more than a glorified police force.
I'm also beginning to believe that the Grand Army of the Republic and the Separatist Droid army were the pinnacle of armed forces in Star Wars and that nothing like them has been seen since, not even out of the First Order's own military.
Ayden Lewis
CRYSTAL WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT!

March 23 release?

In old canon the New Republic Navy was the greatest the galaxy ever seen. In nu-canon the GAR are probably the best with the FO having the most powerful Navy.
Camden Phillips
New Republic and Imperial Remnant were better, to be honest. (legends)
Hunter Lopez
The First Order was tiny compared to the Galactic Republic. They had Starkiller Base and the Supremacy, but just a few dozen Resurgents and planetary armies beyond that.
Gavin Cooper
>New Republic Navy was the greatest the galaxy ever seen
Really? I thought it was just the most advanced as they had to build their ships with more of an emphasis on maximizing efficiency given they (at the time) had to contend with much more numerous foes.
Alexander Cruz
Alright this picture was suggested as working for a SW ship, so I edited it a bit by removing the text. How's it look?
Austin Green
It was also the most advanced. The NR Navy combined the best parts of the Rebel Alliance which was powerful letter wings and the Imperial Navy incredibly powerful ships of the line.
Asher Evans
Star Trek's big ol' jutty engines have never done it for me. That said Literally Just A Flying Saucer is canon so that's not much worse off. Needs more greebles to feel Warsy personally. Maybe a second/wider connector from the engine to the main body.
William Collins
Like an old Trek ship
Wyatt Howard
The problem is just that Star Trek is way too iconic a design - it's always going to look like starfleet.
Beyond that though, it looks a bit too smooth/flat for me. Needs more greebles to feel really star wars.
Elijah King
What language was C-21 Highsinger speaking? It doesn't sound like Binary. Is it Huttese?
Kevin Morales
Do languages really matter at all in the FFGRPGs? I see that it says all species start with a couple languages usually, but does it really matter outside of narrative reasons at the GM's discretion?
Juan Bennett
It doesn't really matter, no. Generally you can assume everybody understands everybody else unless it would improve the plot to declare otherwise in a specific situation.
Joseph Hernandez
>Is the Galactic Empire's military really the military made to fight a galactic conflict?
Star Destroyers, at least, are pretty much the peak battleship. They can carry a big enough fighter/bomber wing to protect themselves from anyone without plot armor, can carry a small army, have massive range, are heavily defended and staggeringly well-armed.
Dylan Torres
>That said Literally Just A Flying Saucer is canon so that's not much worse off.
To be fair, Hondo is kind of a gag character.
Thomas Morris
Being a silly character has no bearing on the level of canon occurring.
Aaron Edwards
The Empire had them beat as far as planetary warfare though didn't they?
Was kind of wondering how the New Republic could beat the Empire during a battle on a planet when they have formations like the Hel's Hammers and the MT-AT.
The better armor is clearly in the Empire's corner most of the time, even though I think their troopers had better personal armor than most of their Stormtrooper counterparts.
Robert Cox
One of the reason than canon really doesn't matter, specially for RPG's. Simply take whatever you like and find it fits better.
Mason Thomas
Okay, thanks.
Was planning on my players meeting a Hutt, and wasn't sure how to approach how he would speak.
But Huttese is pretty much the second most widespread language in the galaxy, so it should be reasonable to assume that most people would understand it.
Asher Sullivan
I mean, you could just go jabba route and say he has a chained slave who translates for him, or a droid.
If the party can somehow get either droid or slave alone/aside, they might be able to get them on their team.
Justin Edwards
So gents, what are we speculating for wave 14/15 of x-wing?
Will we finally get to see the skipray?
Nathaniel Carter
Huttese is incredibly common, some smug Rodian could translate each sentence for the party if they're all too retarded to have it, adding his own smartass remarks as well.
Luis Gutierrez
General approach for me is:
1.) Unless otherwise specified, everyone from a given world will speak Basic and any large minority alien tongues.
2.) In the Outer Rim, everyone will at least speak some Huttese and most humans will speak Basic and Huttese.
Most Hutts have droid or slave translators, as noted. They can speak and understand Basic (and other languages) usually, but they don't deign to speak others' tongues.
Mason Wood
>but they don't deign to speak others' tongues.
There was that one Truman Capote-esque Hutt in TCW who spoke Basic.
Camden Peterson
I painted my first xwing ship as I wanted to make a small rebel fleet all the same colour.
Thoughts? Criticisms? Tips on painting panels free hand better?
Also, I was thinking of ordering some 3D printed Vulture droids from Mel's or Alien Luxury Miniatures any recommendations otherwise?
Austin Hernandez
Resistance A-Wing for sure. Scum, maybe Skipray. Imps/FO, god knows.
Christian Ortiz
>Was kind of wondering how the New Republic could beat the Empire during a battle on a planet when they have formations like the Hel's Hammers and the MT-AT. Airstrikes. Lots and lots and lots of airstrikes. Ground-based AA and MANPADS are a bit behind the times in the great galactic arms race. Isard's Revenge shows us that even with SAM coverage, the Empire's big armored assets are still vulnerable to torpedo strikes.
Alexander Brooks
>If the party can somehow get either droid or slave alone/aside, they might be able to get them on their team.
I'm actually planning to surprise them a little ways in and discover that the Hutt is actually a more-or-less legitimate businesslug and fairly amiable, albeit with some traditional Hutt arrogance, such as being capable of speaking Basic but choosing not to.
One of the players is actually going to be a preserved HK unit, and he tends to enjoy smart-ass characters, so I'm sure he'd love that kind of opportunity.
Thank you, those rules make sense; I'll adapt them, myself.
Aiden Ward
Hey, everyone's got their quirks. You seen that freak Jabba and his kink for humanoids?
Julian Campbell
Now that is kind of odd given the Empire has an perfectly good AA vehicle in EU that was noted to be cheap and very effective.
Also, what happens if the New Republic can't make use of those air strikes and actually needs to rely on their ground arm more?
Robert Nguyen
>spoiler Ah, then yeah, going the droid or slave (maybe servant, instead) route might be good for wrong footing them into "yep its a crime lord" territory. Does he do all that shit just to keep up appearances so other hutts dont think he's boring?
They lose. That said, generally speaking they dont tend to get into big pitched battles often.
Landon Young
That's when the NR develops SEAD tactics and weapons.
Carson Hill
>They lose.
They must not have won hardly any against the Vong then.
Jordan Nguyen
I make them use lots of planetary militias and "honorable" Merc companies, specailly early one. New Rep armies are mostly some elite corps with ad hoc Auxilliaries.
Dylan Sanchez
You'll note that much of the galaxy was lost to the Vong.
Though by that far into the future of the EU, perhaps they had improved their ground tech somewhat.
Julian Sanders
The hell does that have to do with anything?
Oliver Nelson
Ziro's also a giant fruit with a thing for Pa'lowicks and giant tattoos on a body literally built to sag, he's a bit of an oddball.
Jonathan Scott
Who talks in a cajun accent for some reason.
Zachary Wilson
>Does he do all that shit just to keep up appearances so other hutts dont think he's boring?
He, like most Hutts, still kinda holds the idea that Hutts are a superior species, but at the same time, sees too much competition in the spice trade, and so pursues more "legitimate" economic interests in order to make profit from other sources than his kin.
If my players ask why he doesn't deal in slaves, his initial response will be that he finds slavery "icky" (complete with an exaggerated finger wiggle). But if it's explored more, they'll find out that he doesn't mind having some indentured servants with stated times of release in their contracts, but otherwise prefers "free" employees and servants because he finds them more entertaining to have around.
As for the droid/slave translator thing, you do have me thinking; the plan I have right now is for my players to meet him after talking with one of his supposed "rivals" (either a Black Sun or Zann Consortium agent) with the idea that the Hutt is a traditional crime lord. When they get to his palace, they could meet, say, a female Twi'lek, with them naturally immediately thinking "traditional Twi'lek slave girl" but, in actuality, is his paid majordomo. If they scrutinze her appearance, I could point out she doesn't have a slave collar. And, of course, if they ask her personal questions, she'll be very open about her Hutt employer basically being a bro, as far as Hutts go.
I think it could be fun/funny.
William Williams
Wait, then how would they handle something like the shielded fortresses and what not seen during the Clone Wars era?
I think they mentioned those shields prevented any kind of repulsor craft or aerospace from entering them and that they could withstand the fire power of air strikes comfortably.
I think it's said that was one of the reasons walkers existed and why repulsor craft weren't solely the back bone of a lot of armies.
Jack Bailey
Thin your paints, do multiple thin coats, wash and highlight to show detail. As for the miniatures, order then in frosted ultra detail and sand the shit out of them before painting.
Caleb Martin
Resistance A-wing is so boring. I guess the OG A-wing needs some new upgrades to make it usable in the new meta though.
We'll probably see a new TIE Fighter pack to go with the new Mimban Stormtrooper armour seen in the Han Solo Lego sets. so that the TIE/ln can compete again as well.
Scum. We'll probably get the Kessel Run Millenium Falcon.
Easton Barnes
With what we see of the Rebel Alliance? They probably wouldnt. Certainly not with a standard assault.
Now, a special ops team, maybe with a jedi, sneaking in to blow the shield and then the whole thing is brought down by X- and Y-Wing assault? That sounds Rebel Alliance, right?
Honestly, yeah, it sounds fun as hell. I'll probably steal him. That said, yes, you have to have him waggle his finger, and then have his translator struggle for the word and eventually settle on 'icky'.
And yeah, no slave collar and also decently modest clothes - they look like business attire for some mid-rim worlds, perhaps where she grew up. Or went to business school.
Kevin Thompson
Why the FUCK aren't Kage a playable species for the spy book!?
Isaac Williams
In TCW weren't the AAT's able to pass through the shield on Christophsis? It would have been one of the first episodes.
Jackson Garcia
Probably for the same reason the gran, a species no one likes, appear in like 3 books.
Adrian Sanders
Man I completely forgot about the Han Solo film. When are we getting a trailer, even? There's lego sets ffs, we dont have a trailer?
And yeah, A-Wing 2: Novaldex Boogaloo is kinda boring as far as new ships go, but it would be nice to have an updated and usable a-wing. I really wish theyd fucking planned shit in advance better so the old runs would be playable against newer. But yeah, a new specialised TIE wouldnt shock me - probably some sort of guard/mining tie or something? Scum Falcon is interesting.
Bentley Russell
Sounds like that means that any time they can't infiltrate it, they just have to leave it alone.
Evan Campbell
I thought they were moving behind the shield?
Xavier Morgan
Well, yeah. That's pretty much what they do.
They leverage their decent fleet and fantastic starfighters, and their fantastic fifth column and infiltrators.
Lucas Ward
Nal Hutta's Space Louisiana now, complete with Air Boats, so that's reasonable.
Brody Jones
Do we really need a 3rd Falcon though?
When it comes to the Han Solo film Mimban in the EU had severe energy storms that made it necessary for craft to have additional heavy shielding so I can see a cheap TIE Fighter only card that boosts hull or shields as a modification. It'd be a good chance to make a Special Forces (Battlefront 2) repaint of the TIE/ln and add Iden Versio and the other Inferno Squadron members as pilots.
Jaxon Gutierrez
>gliding motorcycles Oh god, my sides.
Jason Cruz
Well, they must have took hideous losses fighting the later Imperial Warlords and Vong then.
Nolan Anderson
Hahaha I don't know a single person who has ever played a gran. They look ugly have shit stats are all around useless filler when we have so many other species needing to get in.
Colton Turner
>the hutts are literally a bunch of wealthy cajun me'seus involved in dirty business
I am okay with this.
Tyler Evans
I like the Gran.
Jordan Bell
They lost half the galaxy to the Vong, user. And a lot of warlords were mostly space based problems.
Sebastian Gomez
>I'll probably steal him. Go for it, user.
>That said, yes, you have to have him waggle his finger, and then have his translator struggle for the word and eventually settle on 'icky'. I love it, yes, I'll be sure to make a note for their interaction.
>And yeah, no slave collar and also decently modest clothes - they look like business attire for some mid-rim worlds, perhaps where she grew up. Or went to business school. Yeah, something like that. Maybe even add a point saying the most revealing thing about her outfit is a knee-length skirt, and that's it.
Nathan Stewart
But New Republic tech advanced dramatically by that late period. This only really applies to the Rebellion and very early New Republic.
Dylan Roberts
>And a lot of warlords were mostly space based problems.
I think they mention ones like Thrawn, Zsinj and the later Reborn Emperor were a very serious ground threat.
I think they even mention in the case of Thrawn and the Reborn Emperor that the Empire wiped the floor with them in lot of ground engagements.
Charles Rivera
Yeah, exactly. When they had ground threats, they suffered badly. When it's something they can take down with specialists and fighter support, they clean house.
Aaron Lewis
>What droids are featured in your campaigns as pcs or npcs? IG-72 and K-3PX as IG-88 and 4-LOM analogues. Planning to use a third one for the PCs to fight.
Sebastian Green
To be fair Nal Hutta's always been a swampy cess pit but we didn't have the air boats and Capote the Hutt before it.
Ayden Myers
Reminds me of how almost all Twi'leks in TCW have French accents.
Lucas Hernandez
Another player mentioned at my LGS that he speculates the Resistance A-Wing will have a mobile firing arc, since it apparently can rotate its cannons 360.
You have to manually set where they're pointed, however.
As for Empire, probably the TIE Oppressor since that'll round out the Imperial SWG ships
Matthew Martin
And mind you, the Rebs aren't necessarily an auto-lose on the ground either. The climax of Galactic Battlegrounds' Rebel campaign is a ground assault on Coruscant where your air units are mostly useless. The late Rebellion and early NR could and did win ground engagements if they played their cards right.
Landon Martin
God I hope the Oppressor doesn’t make it into the game. That ship is one of the ugliest TIE variants, period. I’d even prefer one of the one-wing-two-ball ships.
Josiah Reyes
Yeah, I was wondering where all of that stuff seen in Empire At War and other RTS games went later down the line.
Like the mobile proton torpedo launcher and their tanks.
In the TB-3 even had a tank capable of defeating an AT-AT in direct combat.
Ryan Peterson
>Galactic Battlegrounds My man.
Mason Price
if it was falcon sized you could probably get away with saying its a modified vcx-100
Jaxson Reyes
>Yeah, I was wondering where all of that stuff seen in Empire At War and other RTS games went later down the line. Content creators probably just forgot about them or forgot to coordinate to decide upon a standardized set of Rebel ground vehicles. So while the Empire got to have some consistency with its frequent use of AT-ATs and AT-STs, the Rebels got a World of Tanks-grade hodgepodge of random one-offs.
The sequals make Tor look like great writing. Kotor/Tor could easily replace the sequels. In fact they will now in my headcanon. Tor Alderann is just some other planet not called that.
Gavin Gomez
That's reasonable given Cham's whole thing is being Le Resistance
Daniel Lopez
Even at TOR's worst moments (minus expansions I don't know shit about those) it's at worst paint-by-numbers, which is what the majority of the sequel's not-utterly-shite decisions have been anyway
Caleb Campbell
It's me /swg/- Meme card man.
I finished the impossible task- Wating the Holiday special with the intent of taking screenshots of wookiees making funny closeup faces for using as art in X-wing cards.
I have a bit over a dozen varying photos of Wookiees to use as Wookiee Libertarians (Wookiee Liberator alt art)- If I post them, will you guys be able to help me choose which ones to use?
Isaiah Collins
Gauntlet Fighter, Resistance A-wing, TIE Hunter, N-1, and Skipray Blastboat are the most likely ships, in-order of being likely.
Hunter Gutierrez
After you made it through the holiday special? It's the least we can do. Your soul needs some healing after that ordeal.
Julian Baker
Thin your paint on that E-wing. You should probably strip that one and then start over- You always learn from your mistakes.
Josiah Diaz
That would make a lot of sense, actually. Throw in some of the fancier maneuvers from later waves and it'd probably be neat to fly.
>they release the bomber so early that they cant have any named characters, like for the t-70 >we dont get rose as a character >they release the a-wing far enough after film's release that we can have Tallie Perfect.
You know, considering they blew up all the x-wings and a-wings, maybe Johnson didnt like that the ships were all the same and was wiping the slate clean. Maybe in 9 we'll get actively new vehicles, for the Rebels at least.
Carson King
They don't rotate on that axis- They are gimballed, not turrets.
Robert Williams
I'm going to say this, Salvator treated chewbacca better then Jabrams or Johnson ever did
Caleb Lee
Dumping-
Pictures of Lumpy are needed to be noted as distinct from pictures of Mala and Itchy- Lumpy will be used for Lowhrick alt-arts, while Mala and Itchy are for Wookiee Libertarians.
Filenames are all "Lumpy" though, as I didn't give a shit.
Eli Turner
They can explicitly fire backwards my man. I doubt they'll be turrets per se, but being able to have a rear arc seems pretty reasonable.
Tyler Russell
Specifically, I need the best Lumpys, and the 5 best non-lumpy- I've got
Blake Flores
Mobile firing arc means that they could shoot along the hull- They are gimballed, not a turret. They rotate up and down, not full movement. I've got card text for 5 Wookiee Libertarians now, and planning on doing 4 or so lumpy's. *
Josiah Taylor
these get worse from here.
Worst case scenario, I made some wookiee reaction faces.
Christian Rodriguez
so pick out the best photos to make X-wing cards with- I'll be using a full-art/minimalistic card template.
