Cities Edition
How do you guys have your cities?
Skyscrapers at the center with smaller buildings around it?
Pure skyscrapers interconnected with Bridges, lanes and intermediate levels?
Gigantic Building blocks close enough to jump from one to the other, with traffic going through them?
More smaller buildings with a few large buildings interspersed?
Something else?

I have a hard time conceptualizing cyberpunk buildings and cities/towns overall, since I've mostly ever played things that were either high fantasy or modern or modern-ish world settings. Any good references to help with this sort of thing would be a godsend, bc as much as I've enjoyed running the game for my friends I don't really have enough cyberpunk experience to really bring it to life aside from lots of neon, projections and the contrast of rundown ghettos and super razzmatazz areas.

>Pure skyscrapers interconnected with Bridges, lanes and intermediate levels?
Patrician taste, much better than the "arcologies" Shadowrun tries to shill.

These four are the only cyberpunky cityscapes I have for the bloke who needs inspiration, unfortunately. And this one is more future scifi than cyberpunk.

I want to thank the user or Anons who run this general thread, you tend to be unsung heroes in an indifferent world. Your efforts are appreciated.

RIght, here's the correct image rather than cyberpug2077.

Much appreciated chummer, thank you.

I just glanced over artstation, far more than I have. Best bet.

Don't forget to describe the people as well. What they do and how they do it heavily affects their environment. Patch job cables, the cleanliness of waterways, bars over windows, the conversion of homes into storefronts.

I'm a bit better with some of the details like that when it comes to smaller areas and buildings and interacting with other people/machines and whatnot, but I always forget about some of the bigger aspects of cyberpunk things like some cities having different sectors, massive buildings everywhere (sometimes having tunnels/bridges/walkways between them), subways and railways and the like. I'm getting a bit better at coming up with ideas and describing them to my players, but I always have that nagging feeling that sometimes it's a bit underwhelming or missing stuff that could improve it or make it more appropriate for the magic/cyberpunk setting it's supposed to be.

I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you get the basic feel across it's fine

Ever go into the nasty part of a big city on a shit day? Storming or snowing? How everything is kind of grubby? And patched? And things that shouldn't be there are doing jobs? You know, someone's used some cables to tie an air conditioner to a window, a car bumper is part of a house, someone is wearing a bit of plastic sheeting as a shirt? Maybe there's some gentrification going - shiny signs, one or two nice bits nearby. That's the sort of thing to aim for. That juxtaposition between shiny and new and "the street finds its own uses for things".

what are some good spells for a pornomancing mage?

Orgasm

I'm thinking of GMing this god-awful system again. Because of course I am, despite being pissed off at the rules, I'm drawn back by the setting every time.

Anyway, what's changed in the last two or so years? I'm hip to the latest edition, but someone said there's no burning edge anymore? What's up with that?

>what's changed in the last two or so years?
lots of dumb stuff
>I'm hip to the latest edition, but someone said there's no burning edge anymore?
haven't heard about that. Don't think that's true

Burning edge is a thing.

You either get an auto 4 net hits on a test or you manage to cheat death essentially, if I read correctly.

Cool. Where do I find this "dumb stuff"?

Have you heard the good word of our lord and saviour "OP Pastebin"?

Depends on where the runners are. Higher-class places are clean and sleek with skyscrapers that extend to the clouds. The air traffic is just as busy and prolific as the ground traffic as sky-taxis and delivery drones get the wealthy (and their goods) from one place to another. Security and law enforcement are ever present but to law-abiding citizens they are a sign of safety instead of hostility.

On the other side of the fence, barrens usually look like the worst ghettos of the largest cities. They are places where the government doesn't invest much of its money. Things that people would take for granted in the nicer parts of cities - organized AR beautification, GridLink functionality, consistent power grids and even tap water that isn't "crunchy" - are either unavailable to the general public or commodified by whatever calls itself "in charge" of the area. People live in squalor in houses that would be condemned if anybody cared enough to come knock it down. Abandoned factories, office flats, and parks have been left to rot after multiple Crashes and a dozen other apocalypses rendered such places as burnt-out husks or simply undesirable building areas. Its dirty, crude, and smells funny. Much like a lot of the people who live there.

Lore question for the stupid idiots like me.

When the Renraku Arcology shutdown happened why didn't the Gird Overwatch Division, or whatever they had back then, take back control of the situation?

...

because at that point GOD didn't have the power it has now
And also because the arcology was under control of an VERY powerful AI

...

Stupid Question maybe, but does anyone here have all the Corporation RPG books from Brutal games? I'm asking here since SR is basically Corporation with Elves and Magic, so the interests might overlap.

Have you checked The Archive thread?

Are there any adept powers similar to a platelet factory? Aside from, of course, metabolic control.

A few threads ago we were arguing about armour jacket visuals. Here's an interesting one.

I've downloaded the whole folder, I'm asking because I don't want to sift through the books and find every change.

Is the initiate metamagic shielding like counterspelling, in that you only get (initiate grade) extra dice a turn? Or is it 'always there' to reflect the character's growing mastery, like the spell resistance power?

It's in the core rulebook early on, where it describes the basic functions of which attribute does what.

Thanks, bro.

In my game, using these gets you jailtime for rape.

Using agony merely gets you slap on the wrist for assault.

The trick is pornomancing the officers that are trying to arrest you.

But what if the cops are also pornomancers?

>tfw Knight Errant as a unit consisting of incredibly sexy men and women specialised to arrest the most attractive and charismatic of criminals

it ends up being a good old "who cums first loses" duel, eh?

Forget only the most attractive/charismatic, try all of them. You'd have a problem, though, with a literal flood of bodily fluids.

I am fairly sure there are cleaning spells for that kind of things.

But, if you use your pornomancing on ALL criminals...
aren't you just as bad as the pornomancers you swore to bring to justice?

No, because the government/megacorp says it's okay if I do it.

You really don't get this Authority thing, do you?

This is my first time making a rigger. Someone please explain autosofts to me. When does my roto-drone use my targeting autosoft instead of my gunnery? And what do drones use if they don't have an autosoft? Pilot?

Also, drones come with sensor arrays. Do I pick its contents myself?

And while I'm at it, does Chummer have a feature to duplicate a piece of gear?

>When does my roto-drone use my targeting autosoft instead of my gunnery?
uses the autosoft when it is acting on its own and not being controlled directly by you through a control rig. if a drone is slaved to a RCC it can use autosofts loaded on the rcc, otherwise it can only use softs loaded on itself

>And what do drones use if they don't have an autosoft? Pilot?
the autosoft gives the drone a skill rating. without an autosoft it can still default for actions that would use a basic skill. this is going to give it a very low pool, so use an autosoft.

>Also, drones come with sensor arrays. Do I pick its contents myself?
Probably. i dont think its actually been stated anywhere, but sensor functions dont cost anything so why not.

1. Gunnery when you are controlling with RCC. autosofts when on autopilot. firing a weapon strictly needs an autosoft.
2. The drone can do other stuff without autosofts; like flying or stealth, albeit usually a bit worse. Generally its gonna be pilot rating or sensor strength. Device rating = pilot rating as a quick note.
3. Sensor array is an array of up to 6 capacity of single sensors. Fill the array with stuff. Sensor array is built into drones. Maybe theres some without, but whatever. Just keep in mind the size of the drone when looking at cameras n some stuff. I think camera has to be rating 1 to be micro size.
4. It might be able to dupe. I dont think so though. Just assembly line when you make your drones.

Sensor Arrays can hold eight sensors.

Imagine overworked, underpaid slapdash jobs of anything not coperate owned. Advertisements and billboards put on houses and the city streets. Low hanging wires. Crowded markets

So, how do autosofts/programs work on autopilot if they can only run so many at once? Do they have to constantly switch between them to function in their task, or is there some general number or roll that can be made for actions without the related autosoft running? Still racking my brain over this (5e, btw.)

What are some good references (of fiction media, non-fiction, or others) to help inform portrayals of cyberpunk environments?

ah my bad i should have clarified. 8 is correct, but they are still only 6 capacity. some sensors cost no capacity.
I havent truly messed around with drones much, but off the top of my head yes they do have a limit with how many at the same time they can run. You can put autosofts on your RCC and on the drone itself. Can't have autosoft rating higher than pilot or RCC device rating.
Half drone device rating = number of autosofts running on it. Full Device rating = number of autosofts on RCC. The big kicker is that your drone can run programs on your RCC as long as it is slaved and not using its own ones. I'll let you figure out how you want to use that info. There's also some shenanigans, especially with swarm program, but it gets a little weird so keep it simple, omae.

oh regarding the general rolls for stuff its kinda just up to the gm on what he makes the drone roll for. Having the drone fly 10m probably isn't going to be a check. Having the drone perform surgery probably will be. This is just like your character. the only difference is that if you don't have the skill(autosoft) you default on it and get that neat -1 dice penalty.
covered alot of the stuff already as well.

Fashion

what the hell is "pornomancing"

If a drone doesn't have the relevant autosoft loaded, it's effectively defaulting and rolls Pilot -1. You can load up to DR/2 rounded up onto a drone directly, while your RCC can carry up to Device Rating in 'softs. There's no RAW on how/whether you can have a pilot reload its autosofts on the fly, but they would presumably do it as a Complex Action, per SR5 269; most combat drones will only really need a maneuvering soft and a targeting soft.

You will only rarely need an evasion soft or Electronic Warfare on a combat drone. NEVER BUY CLEARSIGHT, EWAR IS THE SAME THING BUT BETTER.

If for some reason you need to run more programs on your drone instead of through your RCC, you can hardwire in a soft through the Program Carrier from Data Trails; if your GM swings with it, you can load the program carrier with Virtual Machine and get an additional two slots.
Face with exceptionally high dicepool for seduction. Also typically a caster, in order to gain access to Mob Mood, Orgasm, and Control Thoughts. The more neckbeardy approach calls for a gnome and the phrase 'I roll to make him be into me'

>I roll to make him be into me
This phrase is a warning sign, and it isn't even limited to Shadowrun.
I want to forget the last time a player asked me this.

Not just any gnome, a legal loli gnome!
Bonus points for adiposis oppai

>Japan gets legal Loli
>Exiles or hunts them
Unrealistic.

Well, they like elves, don't they? I imagine like everywhere else in the world it's only goblinoids who get the shaft.

I'm pretty sure that, at least in older editions, elves where border case second class citizen.l, if not exiled or killed like anybody else.

They really don't. You're one of the more 'acceptable' ones over there, but you're still a fucking elf.

The most successful elves are good little whores for corporate men on the rise.

Is there an adept power more fun than smashing blow?

Hang time+wall rim as a centaur, so you can pretend you're playing skyrim on a horse and ignore physics.

No, user. The Sensor Array ITSELF takes up six capacity in whatever it's being put in. It can hold eight sensors, capacity irrelevant.
