user from last night painting my first 40k model...I think it's done (other than the base of course.)
C&C welcome.

It's not bad, a little dirty, even for nurgle, but that's okay. The face could use some help. Try looking up the warhammer tv youtube video with the Lord of Contagion. That might help you out some.

Yeah, the face was the most difficult part for me. I had some trouble with the consistency of the paint, I'm not sure that it was thin enough, as it was my first time using Citadel paints.
If you happen to use a wet palette, how should the paint behave when it's properly wet? Should it remain stiff or move together like water?

Good overall. The boils on the face are sketchy though.

Show me your dustbois.

Does anyone have a good painting guide for smoke? Like emanating from a sensor? I've never painted smoke before and all the guides I see are for like magic smoke and shit. I want smoke that looks like pic related.

youtu.be/29Yg2ukwpTo?t=893

Do you guys have any tutorial for finding motivarion ?

youtube.com/watch?v=NouZB6QuCys

Well, I broke my tailbone last night, painting is going to suck

Waitan on chance to prime

Make yourself uncomfortable. Set alarms on your phone to go off every hour. When one goes off, get up and move around and do something. Do not let comfort distract you from productivity. Give yourself challenges and reward yourself when you complete a difficult task to a satisfactory level. Write your goals down on a note pad or dry erase board. Even the simple act of scratching off a written task can be rewarding (like a game achievement, but in real life).

RIP user's ass, get well soon. I assume you slipped on ice due to the time of year or something?

Instead of finishing building the five seekers, I undercoated all the complete models. These five are for the two chariots, and therefore have very boring bases. Chariots are undercoated in sub assembly and the unit of daemonettes was done as well. With this my mistakes become even more obvious to the eye.

Remember when you were little and liked to color while laying on your chest on the floor? You can paint like that.

>slipped on ice
>implying user didn't get fractured by snu snu

On a more related note, if I'm painting camo over the base color of a vehicle, should I wash before, or after I finish the first stages of camo? Painting pic related, for reference, in Hungarian WW2 camo.

I would assume after laying down the base coats.

rate my haul lads

>looking through AoS stuff for potential kits for conversions
>really like maw krusha and magmadroth
>notice start collecting fyreslayers comes with a magmadroth and like ten minis and costs as much as the standalone magmadroth kit
Jesus Christ I'm tempted, even if I don't play AoS at all. Its too bad they didn't do the same for the maw krusha, I actually had plans to do a ork army.

Possiblynationalsocialist/10

Got extremely drunk at a party, went to smoke a cig in the rain, and slipped when I came back in
I can't lay like that and pull my head up, pulled some muscles in my back too.

Did some more work on my custom inquisitor transport. Trying to make it look properly flashy without looking like something an ork mek threw together. Any ideas?

Nice little thingy from GW, although I don't see the metals on there.

Christ, you have more money to spare than I do.

10 months ago vs now.

Calling it a night on this guy, going to add writing to the scrolls, add purity seals and base over next few days. Any other suggestions?

Keep it up user.

There's an user around here that made a montage of all his models to show the progress in two or so years. I remember him starting in those very threads, and now he's an excellent painter.

if it's a salamanders dread then a flame motif wouldn't be out of place. The veterans usually have them.

Would anyone like to join my wargaming Discord? We're relatively new but are pretty friendly and have a lot of regulars already.

discord.gg/4Sbzzd

fuck off

Slap a Venerable sarcophagus in it.

Yeah I agree, I need a bit more practice first I think though looking at the state of those hazard markings

looks less like a beer bellied abomination, got a side view?

>lust elves
edgy/10 but they are great minis, so thumbs up, fetish mini user!
his ride is almost as awesome as he is. I like it a lot! I would not add any more bits, but maybe some double-racing stripes in the middle might add something to the overall appearance? just as broad as the eagles two heads, to blend with that....

anyways, here's my most recent paintjob. Finished this one on saturday. I just aimed for tabletop-worthy, I am relatively happy with the result.

Go nuts threeupblog.wordpress.com/2017/08/10/painted-blood-angels-redemptor-dreadnought/

Wip hellbrute and friends.

Longnway to go but starting to get what hell look like.

Nice to see you got approved for the mortgage

The real trick is small batches of tasks for me.

I come home and paint every other night even if it's just an hour or so.

Tonight I just did the gold trim and washes on some. Csms for example. Tomorrow I'll play stellaris and Wednesday I do all the back packs.

The problem is people jump in too deep. They buy like £500 of stuff and it's a mountain. When really small bumps lead to the greatest achievements.

I get what you're saying, but with all the bits in the way that stripe would be far more pain than it'd be worth. I just do so many orc conversions that I worry that all my conversions carry over a bit of orkiness to them

The clawed door slides open and shut, the swappable weapons are on magnets and the WAAAGH sign flips out for when it drops of da gits. The hard part was rearranging the interior to fit in five grots, then reposing them all to be seated.

Yup, just follow the idea of "no zero progress days"
Pick up your brush for 10 minutes even if it's to put on a basecoat or do a highlight on 1 model
Boom, progress made

I like it, user.
I used the same model for a battle wagon for me warbozz

Chandeliers

Slow progress but getting there. Too much Non-hobby work at the moment. Only the Murder Sword is left, which I'm thinking either Fel like my Daemon Prince or make it silver with blue glowy runes like Frostmourne. Suggestions for it are very much welcome.

Can't get it in photos, but there's one of those incense balls from a chaplain hanging from the rear view mirror along with a tiny skull on the gear shift. This detail will never even be seen, so I don't know why I even bothered

You know it's there & you'd have regretted it if you'd thought about doing it & hadn't gone through with it

>not Skool of 'ard Nobs
6/10
Seriously though this is amazing, the addition of that stop sign is perfect

I'd go with Fel. Green would go much better than more blue.

Should I strip these model lads? Just picked up a haul of new Elysians to finally get my army going, I painted them 5-6 years ago and I'm not a big fan of the scheme anymore and I'm not sure how well it would translate to on foot Elysians, let alone how to paint it.

The Avenger Strike Fighter was never finished so I could mask off the bottom and paint the top another colour or maybe a camo, it just looks really dull in that solid off white and the pilots/plane won't match whatever scheme I change to in it's current state.

I'll probably go with a green armour/khaki fatigues scheme so I might do a test model first and see how it comes out, would the Tauros look good in camo that's similar colours? Never tried painting camo before but I don't think solid colours would look great on large panels and it doesn't have much character to it then.

I'm basing them to match my BA which is going to be a reddish-brown desert with the odd piece of metal or concrete around so I think the colours should contrast well without being overtly stand-out as the models in the picture I linked seem to still look like they have fairly appropriate camo for the place they're in.

Going to be using the Cadians in the background as storm troopers for the Elysian list so at least those old models aren't wasted.

Open to any ideas on alternative colour schemes for the army overall and how to get a good camo effect or anything I can really use to add character to the army, I've seen some great details like netting on vehicles that would be great if I could pull them off but I don't know where I would start.

Same user as btw, that's the stuff that came in.

>Elysian drop troops
Mahhh niggah. See you on the drop site

thx

It's like this. I guess so actually! Nice contrast between the red of the skull and purple/gold of the armour.

Thank you.

Oh yeah shit, that's not blue, that's purple! I have no idea why why the camera doesn't pick up the colour! It's a deep purple mixed with metal medium, so it comes out blue-ish.

First time painting in some 5 odd years. Thought about touching it up a bit more before posting, but it's good enough since it's just a test model. Kinda want to make the armor greener, but I'm still satisfied with these colors.
Any tips other than the fact that I need to thin my paints more?

Kind of want it to look more like pic related

Thinning your paints is going to fix that unnatural dirty paint look but not bad for a first try. Just gotta keep at it.

Nice job!

As said, boils on face and eyes could use some work. Also, I'd recommend not highlighting the tentacle where it meets the armor, and maybe adding some runs from the pits in the armor.

Overall though, would be happy to play against.

I'm painting the same guy right now, a real fun project. I'd seggest trying to better differentiate the main armour from the trim.

I know it's splitting hairs, but it should behave in a way that is a hybrid of the two you described. The best way it has been described to me, is to keep your paint "humid"

What did you assemble these beauties out of? These look really nice.

There's a right consistency in between the two. A wet pallet helps but the window of time its behaving just right is pretty small. At least in my experience. You just wash the brush and achieve it again. With such small detail work you're generally not using enough paint to the point that's wasteful.

looks nicely gross and corrupted, well done user.

AHAHA this is awesome if this is actually your models

I want to do a Nid army in army in the vein
Mega-Arachnids/Q'orl and I'm looking for good 3rd party giant bugs. Any tips? Bonus points for sufficiently alien bugs.

Too bad they cancelled the strarship troopers stuff.

>Too bad they cancelled the strarship troopers stuff.

Too bad that was going to be my first suggestion until I got to this line.

Same thing as the Seraphon SC. The carnosaur is $100cad, and the start collecting is the same price but includes a bunch of knights and saurus warriors

I had no idea how much of a pain these girls would be to assemble. The combination of teensy spindly joints, and super glue taking longer than plastic cement to bond, is really frustrating sometimes.

Slugga boy included for reference purposes only.

love that color scheme

I was not expecting Evil Sunz Scarlet to come out this bright reddish orange, should I wash the whole thing in Carroburg Crimson so bring some red out? Sorry for the weird location it gave the best lighting to show off the color since my phone camera seems to darken colors.

Got the boop bois through the red cleanup stage. Just have to touch up the metals, edge highlight, and do the green eyes. Then I have to figure out some sort of markings.

Finished the last part. Time to seal it and then put it together.
The layers for GW reds are all quite orange. They need a foundation of one of their base reds to really work. Try that wash out, but if that doesn't work out for you, you can try Mephiston Red as a base and then highlight it with Evil Sunz.
Neat bases, and clean reds. Did you buy the bases somewhere or make them yourself?

Thanks, the bases are just the GW Sector Imperialis ones though. I like em.

Motherfucker you better play the Magic Schools theme on your phone when you bring that bitch out at the table.

just sittin over here, painting muh gold bois

Tha fuck kinda army you building, user?

justing ticking along with the ironjawz, have a local tourney coming up which has finally given me the motivation to finish them

I actually did use Mephiston red as a base, I guess I layered Evil Sunz on too heavily, I blame the fact I had to do this with a small base brush

WIP on what Im calling a Sunset Drake.

I gave the Reaper Narthrax a facelift prior to base coating.

Help how do I speed paint Death Guard stuff? They have so much detail on them and I'm not much of a painter. I just do very simple base, drybrush, wash, few details tabletop standard models.

It's neat to see Ironjawz without the big black plates.
That looks like a big boy. The wing effect is neat.

My edge highlights look a little thick. I think they look good to the eye, so I'm not too worried. Very happy with how this came out. I chipped a little paint snapping it together so I've got touch it up.

What a qt boy. Gotta buy two more at the least.
But I've got a bunch of Dark Imperium stuff before that.

Excuse me /wip/ I got a question.
I found some rose gold colour and was wondering what colour would I shade it with?
Druchii violet or Carroburg crimson?
or something different entierly?

I AM COMPLEEEEETE!

>I’ll do Lamenters as my first chapter
>How hard can they be?
Kill me.

Try those two out on a test model, and the fleshshade as well. See which one works best.
Very clean. I kind of want to get one of those and chaos-ify it. But the Hellbrute's kit model looks pretty nice itself.

these might help, may not be to your tastes though:
mastercrafted.co.uk/shop/infantry-components/shoulder-pads/chequered-shoulderpads/

Got the heads done in my ork speedrun. Didn't take too long, but got a little sloppy in some places.

Thanks, unfortunately the marines that come in the starter set don’t have separate pauldrons.

I heard that the best way to strip plastic is pure alchochol is that true?

Right, forgot about that. Well if you planned on expanding, those might be the easiest way to go, they look a little deep though honestly. There might be something on shapeways too. I do not envy your pursuit of the one of the hardest schemes in the game sir.

dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Dakka_Modeling_FAQ:_How_to_Strip...
Yes, the "..." is part of the link, copy that too

Could try doing some edge highlight on flat areas. It might sound daunting but it is pretty simple thing to do. Decent work but what the hell is wrong with his head? Skull bursting through an egg?

If I had to describe it in one word I'd go with boring. The base doesn't help either, it all just blends together

It's a Morat, like a monkey alien man

Damnation I need a brother craig!!!
To paint as a Space shark or as a Blood Raven.

First of the lot is nearing done. Need to do the blade and the eyes. How am I doing?

I think it could benefit from some transfers or some pattern on a knee plate. Nice edge highlights on the black. The gun looks a slight bit messy on the white, might be the photo. I like the base. Might want to consider making the storm bolter cases white

loving it, only one criticism, clean up the black around the iron hands symbol its a bit distracting in the photo but i imagine its better in real life

Chipping/ weathering would go a long way to breaking up the black
