Every Half-Insert Inferior Race-'s non-human parent is shit but suddenly we bang them and they pop out kids that don't have their negatives but have our positives.

Technically, at least some races are said to be "generic" hybrids - half-orcs, tieflings, genasi and aasimar, for example, are supposed to be any non-(orc/fiend/elemental/celestial) humanoid plus the relevant race, but it's the traces inherited from their orcish or outsider parent that defines the species.

To put it in less confusing terms, D&D has always tried to handwave it that an elvish tiefling or a dwarvish half-orc is similar enough to its human counterpart that no statistic differences are needed.

Plus, there have been some nonhuman humanoid hybrids in D&D past. Stout & Tallfellow Halflings are generally implied to be half-dwarven and half-elven halflings respectively, whilst Mystara had a playable race of elf/ogre hybrids and Kingdoms of Kalamar had elf/orc hybrids.

It's not always a very good explanation and, personally, I like the idea of more "varied" hybrid races in my setting.

I've always liked the idea of Humans having a naturally really weird and easy to hybridize genetic structure. They're basically the Eevee's of the fantasy world.

That said, varied hybrids can be really fun if you have the time to sit down and work them all out.

Plus, I'm trying to figure out how to do a PC race inspired by Gnomeferatu. New gnomish subrace? Gnome with a "dhampyr" racial feat? Or an entirely new race that just happens to be a short, strong, swift, bloodsucking fiend?

I would go weird with it. Gnomish subrace that exists via some kind of crazy magical mishap. Maybe a bunch of gnomes built a settlement on top of a sleeping elder vampire, found out about it, and tried to kill it, only for their magic to interact with the enchantments on the vampires tomb and infuse the entire population of gnomes with strange vampiric properties.

I'd personally also go for making them kind of batlike, but that's just me. I love my vampires a little less human than usual.

Said woman has a combination of attributes that the man in question finds desirable and the two have interacted in significant enough ways for a relationship to be wanted. Sure you may have an individual or two who for whatever reason have a fetishistic fixation on a particular race but those are outliers.

user, pic related is an absolutely stunning dwarf lady. Additionally, on average, dwarves tend to be skilled in some very practical crafting skills and are physically hardy. Both of those traits are something many (including myself) find desirable in a partner.

I mainly run it in my setting that humans are basically insects. While the other gods carefully crafted their races bit by bit to serve their desired role, the god who made Humans more or less just made a bunch of generic assholes whose whole purpose was to breed and survive, and filled up the world from raw numbers alone.

In my homebrew setting humans were created by the goddess of love in a kind of stone soup way. Every diety contributed to humanity but the goddess of love put together the ingredients in such a way that her work could be spread across all of existence and touch the hearts of all sentient creatures.

Serious question; what would be good 5e stats for the races I mention? I have some rough homebrew versions, but I don't know where to ask for critique.

I don't understand the question, why wouldn't they? If you live and grow up around some non human female and your personalities share chemistry it happens, what's different then a human female?

The obvious answer is that it allows a lot more full blooded races without having to do nearly as much work.

For example, assuming all races can interbreed, having 5 purebloods means you would get 10 halfbloods. And 15 races is a lot if you plan on them being somewhat disctinct, let alone well written.

Given that 5e outright calls these creatures innately and irrepressibly destructive abominations (VGtM pg.186) I would say PC versions are out of the question barring an evil campaign.

In my take, I went with a subrace approach, reasoning that, A: orc & elf wouldn't mix as harmoniously as the standard half-orc, and B: it'd make them different to the standard half-orc. +1 Str, +1 Dex, free Perception proficiency, Fey Ancestry, Relentless Endurance, and then choose either Orcish Brutality (+1 Con, Savage Attacks, Powerful Build), Elvish Grace (+1 Dex, +5ft movement, free Proficiency in Athletics), or Fae Magic (+1 Cha and either 1 Wizard cantrip or the Drow Magic racial ability).

Sunlight Allergen: You suffer Disadvantage on Attack Rolls and on Perception checks based on sight if you, or the subject of your attack/scrutiny, is in direct sunlight. Additionally, if forced to make an Exhaustion check whilst your skin is exposed to sunlight, you have Disadvantage on the check.
Gnomeferatu Resilience: You have Resistance to Necrotic damage.
Blood Thirst. You can drain blood and life energy from a willing creature, or one that is grappled by you, incapacitated, or restrained. Make a melee attack against the target. If you hit, you deal 1 piercing damage and 1d6 necrotic damage. You will immediately notice that they don't go around in heavenly palaces made of silver and gold to pick up goddesses, or otherwise female beings of a superhuman beauty, elegance and power. It's not a matter of "appeal." It takes a special mindset to deliberately lust after unfortunate sapient entities, whose everday lives are in some fashion "lesser" in terms of body, mind or soul compared to a lower class woman living in your own community. It's a matter of people that would go out of their way to get their pleasure from said species undergoing difficulties, whether behavioral, economic, cultural, legal, adding a new form exploitation on top of an already substantial and present pile of misery and disadvantages. And it is no less a disturbing and sad affair when it is born out of repeated rejection, and the guy is genuinely in search of love, for little does he know that all he had to do was to try and stop hating the other half of his own kind.

Gonna bump this in hopes that this thread will last the night and I can get some feedback on this, because 5e seems to go for the precedent of "race is weak, feats buff it up" and I really think there's an interesting idea to be made by applying the vampire-touched trait to gnomes.

I do not think elves or dwarves are lesser by most metrics. On a related note a human pursuing a non-human partner does not indicate hatred for or rejection by their own kind so I am very unsure what the point of your blathering was. The only valid point you bring up is the hardships (legal, economic, cultural, etc.) that such a couple may encounter from their relationship but even then I believe the only two worth anything are legal and cultural issues both of which could be reasonably overcome.

The same reason people are attracted to different human phenotypes - the sense of the exotic can beat the familiar, especially if you're isolated with that group.

I think it's because most fantasy uses Tolkein as its baseline, and within that there were only 3 primary good races, and the Half-Elven between Elves and Men were all legendary figures in some way.

The low-key beards they did for The Hobbit are a nice interpretation.

Most non-humans in fantasy settings are just exaggerated humans anyway, they're only appealing if they're human enough, or if you're degenerate enough.

The real question is can the two species crossbreed? If so it would suggest that they're at least related in the same way that horses and donkeys are related. Though mules are infertile, half-orcs and half-elves and other mutts should be too.

Fun fact; in AD&D, dwarves actually could interbreed with humans, gnomes and halflings, although these hybrids were not statistically different to pureblood dwarves. They can also interbreed with elves, but the mechanical results of this have never been presented.
