So WIP what do you think of my fire giant before I went to seal it with a mate varnish?
Jaxon Hernandez
I grabbed the matte white spray paint instead.
Leo Gomez
Posting some progress. I've posted my termies before, got started on some MK4 tacticals. I'm not completely happy with the way they came out, I fucked up my sarges face and I didnt want to keep messing with it, and the spikes I added didn't come out the best looking for Little Kimmy on the right, but over all I'm ok with them. Thinking of changing the eye colors to the same yellow orange blend as the weapons.
Jordan Rodriguez
looking nice, as always
Julian Price
i'm pretty new, probably have 25 or so minis painted, but i'm confused, apparently. can somebody explain primer to me?
not priming, i get that and why you do it. but primer. like... >chaos black spray, then basecoat >vallejo regular black paint, then basecoat >brush-on primer, then basecoat >just painting your basecoat onto naked mini
what's the functional difference here? what's the difference between brush on primer and regular paint in the same color? what about spray?
cause the army painter method just sprays on the basecolor and then details over it
Liam Hill
Wip 'returned' Angels Resplendent following devastation of baal and Guillimans arrival.
Gavin White
Primer is a specific type of paint that bonds with the miniature and provides a better surface for future paint to adhere to. Technically the GW stuff isn't a primer more just a basecoat but it basically does the same job
Jaxson Butler
thanks, I had some bases ordered that just came today, but I have to wait for our front office to open so I can grab it. The finish is different on primers, they'll be rougher so there's something for the paint to bite onto, and it binds better to surfaces like plastics. If you go straight to a basecolor that isn't a primer, it might be fine, but you're going to have a much more difficult time getting the paint to stick.
Zachary Stewart
Well, I guess this is the best I can do for my Dangle's.
How bad is it?
Gavin Hernandez
highlights are a bit on the thicc and messy side but overall it's ok. When you're painting the highlights load up a bit less paint on your brush
Liam Sanders
Howdy WIP, I found this image in one of these threads a while back, and I absolutely fell in love with the marble style scratches/weathering, and I even found a tutorial on how to accomplish it with black armor. If your interested. figurementors.com/painting-black-power-armour-by-giovanni-di-lena
Now I'm trying to wrap my head around doing the same pattern/style but for crimson fists, and I figured that I would ask for advice. How would you replicate this for Dark Blue armor? What colors would you use?
Mason Green
>How would you replicate this for Dark Blue armor? What colors would you use? the same colours you're using to highlight the armour normally? Just toss in a bit of white for the extreme points.
Grayson Long
Does anyone know a good source for status grass tufts of flowers? Specifically stuff that looks like delphiniums?
Henry Brooks
so i'd like to have some coolness to my black armored guys, i don't want to paint straight black. i tried blue glaze on a black surface and it didn't really show up. is there a good mix you know or a specific paint you know of that's black, but with a faint blueish tint, just enough that when it catches the light there's some color to it?
pic related is what i mean. clearly black, but not just matte black
Aaron Carter
Love that model.
Austin Bennett
I would assume going with a black basecoat, then going with many very thin layers of blues (or better, a blue gray) would be what you're looking for.
Adam Thomas
My inquisitor and retinue wip
Parker Anderson
Dis nigga got cut off
Jayden Carter
White power!
Eli Hall
How do you paint over ink without it bleeding everywhere?
Isaac Lopez
wait for it to dry
Thomas Brooks
Re-base him with snow and it'll look just fine - particularly in that pose, looks like he's getting hit with some frost weapon or somesuch.
Jaxon Roberts
Do you know how long that takes in general?
Henry Scott
Not that user but 30 min or so.
Blake Watson
Weirdboy
Colton Barnes
I always love seeing your boyz - you got one of the nicest color schemes for orks.
Carson Myers
Fugged up the mould line but p happy with my first krieger.
Caleb Gonzalez
With base
William Gutierrez
Other angle
Jonathan Reyes
no idea why this is giving me some berserk vibes...
Ayden Walker
nice work user, i like the good mix of sources. Definitely always liked this motley crew type rag tag retinue rather than everyone in the same armour and style
Lucas Roberts
i got a rhino for my death guard army, but i dont want to modify it with pustules and organic stuff, want a more rusted used theme, and well, i have a lot of spare nurglings.
any suggestion about how to customize it? ive seen some but i dont want to put some random nurglings around or put a plague marine with the combi weapon.
i was thinking getting some barrels and small chains and put em on some places, like chains on the barrels behind, or the back door, or trying to setup a marine or random guardsman up front
Lucas Taylor
Devilman Crybaby has fucked my desire to build shit or even paint. /wip/, can you post your cool conversions to inspire me (and potentially others?)
Samuel Diaz
Just basecoated and chucked an agrax wash on this boy as a test model for my Elysians. I'm trying to go for the scheme on the right but I feel like my guy looks a lot more dull and I might be off with the colours. I used Zandri Dust for the fatigues, Castellan Green for the armour and ushabti bone for the padding. Any suggestions on how I could improve it? Would it look good with these colours after highlighting or is the problem with my scheme down to mismatching basecoats?
William Diaz
Any tips on disassembling a solidly glued together plastic figure? It's not welded together with plastic glue but I'm unsure about going about removing a leg from the main body without causing it damage
Jordan Brown
Love the colors
Samuel Hall
Why not go for a pre-Heresy Death Guard paint job rusted to hell and back? And what's wrong with a Nurgling party wagon?
Kayden Thompson
That looks really nice
Hudson Reed
i did some tests on models of the plague marines at that scheme, but im not sure about it yet, gotta improve the rusting techniques or learn one thing or two about weathering
also nurgling party van? could do some kind of love boat esque rhino with some lights and nurglings... but could look a bit bloated, just want to plan ahead
Benjamin Jackson
Could use some input again
Not sure what color I should go for the eyes on the book and I'm not in love with the color for the central eye either.
I'll be dozing a bit so I may not answer but I'd appreciate ideas
Justin Morris
For mine, I painted in black and white. Then glaze with a very dark blue. Alternatively, VMC Black and Game Color Sombre Grey works nicely too
Levi Perez
Here's an update to those techmarines from the last thread
Lucas Brown
I haven't taken many pics yet but I will soon. Probably a few at Captaincon if I work on some more dudes. This is it next to some various models I was working on.
Carter Phillips
This was in reference to
Anthony Jackson
A different wip
Leo Price
And my most recently finished mini
Jose Lee
Starting on my Exodite wraithblades... Still VERY WIP, but wanted /wip/'s thoughts.
Dominic Parker
Pretty cool. Like the combo with the tree dude stuff.
Nathaniel Peterson
Would maybe add more wood elf bits to make it more tree-like. But a similar effect could be done just with painting or using a knife to make lines on the plastic to look like wood
Hudson Young
Not that user, but maybe this would help with rusting/weathering in general? old man and I used to love doing this shit
Matthew Sanders
Thanks! Yeah, I wanted more "tree" too but thought I might have been going overboard.
Still plenty of dryad/kurnoth bits to use plus I have some gorgeous photo-etched leaves I'll be making vines with.
Ultimately I'm aiming for "ancient" wraiths woken by the world spirit to aid the Exodites so they'll be well weathered/worn and covered in growth (vines, moss, etc...). Tricky part is I want winter theme, so I don't want to go too nuts with it all (which I am inclined to do).
Jace Johnson
Definitely go for inhuman eyes (weird colours, slitted pupils, etc).
For the central eye, I would go a compound eye, like a fly's, but that would be an absolute nightmare to paint. Would look awesome if you could pull it off though.
Gavin Hughes
Source on these models?
Adrian Long
Not him, but I'm guessing Infinity.
Jonathan Wood
First time using Vallejo still water. Wanted to do base that looks like its in the water but it came out shit.
Caleb Morgan
Might not look too bad if you cut away the meniscus. As long as it doesn't turn opaque where you cut it should turn out fine enough, no?
Gavin Gutierrez
Clear silicone adhesive works amazing for this. I made a waterfall out of the stuff and it looked great (and simple too). Just put it on as thick as you want, then paint with some sort of wet effect paint to make it shiny/wet-looking.
Jordan Rivera
Post stuff you are currently working on
This is WIP after all
Adrian Cook
just for scientific purposes, whats that mini?
Caleb Myers
looks like a pilot from infinity
Chase Cook
try drybrushing
Ryan Gray
Ok, you asked for it.
Adam Cooper
New Tau stealth suits?
Gabriel Diaz
2nd one roughly assembled
Zachary Reyes
Help me decide on a company for these captains.
It has to be either 3rd, 5th, 6th or 7th
Jayden Jackson
...
Angel Gutierrez
...
Jace King
...
Elijah Collins
this one is the Lizard pilot from Infinity
But I've no idea where that one is from! I'm also very curious. At least we know it can't possibly be GW since it looks like an actual female.
Brayden Fisher
Go with 3rd. Dude looks really cool.
William Hernandez
Lads, I need new brushes. Not just detail brushes, but medium-sized and ones suitable for drybrushing as well.
Most of the sets I see on ebay are normally just detail brushes, and to be honest I don't think I need much more than a Detail and a Fine Detail brush equivalents at that end.
I don't want to spend daft money, £25-30 overall maybe?
Owen Jones
Need to try that. Can't get any worse. If you use imagination it might look like those are waves or something. I dont know. Bit bummed.
Brayden Morales
My Custodians. Gonna paint the plume blonde, still don't know how to base him.
Matthew Richardson
First try at slightly modified Bloodletters. I like the idea of demons of Chaos undivided so I took off the wierd head and painted them black/bony. Any thoughts ? It's still WIP, kinda.
Camden Carter
It looks okay but moldlines
William Flores
I like the idea, small changes to rank and file can have a really big thematic impact on an army. Got to try and be more polished though, get rid of the mould lines and sprue nubs. What does the back of the head look like?
Jayden Nelson
Thanks anons ! I need to invest in a good hobby knife. The back of the head looks like he has a kind of mask. I moght go and fix that with a bit of greenstuff so that it will merge better with the body.
Tyler Peterson
Hey, that's cool. Any tips on how you painted it? Step-by step would be highly appreciated.
Easton Price
Guys, Im starting the hobby and dont even have a workstation.
What are the basic stuff I need to get started and where are the best places to get them?
Like that geen-squared thing to put your stuff on top, or that Citadel butt plug and brushes. You know, the basic stuff that you wish you had when you started. Thank you!
Jacob Kelly

Adrian Long
Basecoat white and did Duncan's marble method (minus the first step for a whiter marble). Then for the gold I did balthazar, wash sephia, gehenna, a bit of reikland wash, auric, then highlight stormsilver. For the gems I start with black, then went red, red-orange, orange, orange-yellow, yellow for the blend, each stroke smaller than the last. A single, tiny white dot at the top for that shine illusion. The challenge is just that the custodes has a lot of details.
James Carter
Nice.
Levi Nelson
Why it has to be one of those? Legit curiosity, not a dick question, I swear.
Jose Nelson
Looks confusing, I'd add more white on the leg plates and feet, or at least leg plates, front and behind. Same with flat arm plates
Colton Hernandez
I have a project of making all captains for my custom chapter, I have models or plans for models for the rest of the companies.
Some need to look a specific way ( terminator, assault, relic armor with antennae), some are modeled a specific company ( like a 2nd company captain with correct molded pauldrons). I have three spare captains with no company that could be any of the generic companies or the infantry reserve ones.
I am missing three captains (4th, 9th and a generic one) and I have ideas for all of them already.
Xavier Thompson
3rd assigned.
That's my Blood Angels proxy captain so red fits as well.
Ryder Carter
Basic stuff? Brushes, paints, primer, x-acto knife, plastic model cement, cyanoacrylate superglue, cup that you don't mind permanently dirtying, paper towels, hard flat item to use as a palette, desk lamp. The paints are the hardest to come by and the most expensive, followed by the brushes. The rest is a piece of cake.
If you want to kick it up a notch, you can make a wet palette out of any old plastic tray, a shammy cloth, and some baking paper. "Green stuff" plumber's putty or some other modelling putty for gap filling is also a worthy investment, but not immediately essential. As for the green cutting mat, those are nice, but a luxury. I used old magazines as cutting mats for years, and it worked fine.
Isaiah Morris
Thats cool!
Brody Bennett
Keep us updated user, that's a cool idea
Andrew Jones
The cutting mat is standard in nearly any craft/paper store. A lighted magnifying lens is also decently easy to find. You may want a stand for your paints, as well as a palette, again craft stores, also a decent place for you beginners brushes, because you *will* ruin them. Also get a craft knife or two, with extra blades, a sharp knife may nick you, but a dull blade with gouge you once you apply force.
You'll want a really good desk lamp, one of the "old"ones with a long fluorescent bulb is great, prowls some thiriftstores
Emery board, or diaposble nil files, literally anywhere that sells nail polish with have them, for piling plastic that may foul up metal files.
Two cups, one for dirty water one for clean.
Specialist goods: Straight side snippers, for removing from sprues, either hobby or tool shop. Also pick up a set of metal files there.
Optional "advanced" goods Pin vice, or hand drill, hobby shop or specialist tool shop Razor saw, same places
Oh and a good chair, you have one spine, take care of it.
Aiden Long
Is the bike company the assault (8th) one or is it one of the infantry reserve ones?
I may make a bike captain and call it a day
Eli Wilson
Currently stealing this idea for my conscript brick. Filing legs all day hurts my hands.
Gavin Foster
Here's the first company captain missing a pauldron.
Since I use mostly thunder hammer terminators lightning claws seemed good for it, and it's not like i have real game use for a terminator captain anyways.
Asher Watson
Shouldn't the las gun serial code match the prisoners?, or did he still someones laz gun
Carson Rogers
8th is assault, 9th is devastator, 10th is scout
Mason Torres
THE MAN WITH THE RIFLE SHOOTS THE MAN WITHOUT, FOLLOWS HIM WHEN THE MAN WITH THE RIFLE GETS KILLED THE MAN THAT FOLLOWS PICKS IT UP
Jordan Gonzalez
And apparently 6th and 8th are the two that use the bikes, with 7th heavy on the land speeder
Jayden James
Pretty amateur at painting minis still, and wondering how to get a decent 'black' skin on my verminlord like pic related. Are the tones on him even doable without an air brush? (I do have an air brush but I am not confident enough to use it yet). What should I base it with? Only a black primer on it right now.
