Infinity General: CC Bullying Edition

Infinity is a 28mm scale futuristic skirmish game by Corvus Belli where expert swordsmen can occasionally engage in epic duels but usually just run around shanking people who can't fight back.

What would be a good proxy for a boarding shotgun malignos? I was thinking a noctifer spitfire and cutting down the gun a bit. Anything more creative?

So has anyone here actually played the RPG yet? It seems p. good thus far but I haven't dug too deep. If anyone has had any problems, or if there's anything broken or worthy of houseruling I want to know before I go setting off to run a game.

Can you stack multiple order activations on 1 trooper?

As in doing a short order movement then doing a full order action movement ability, then doing a BS attack or something else from there, but as part of the 1st order.

>activate order 1
>Order 1-action 1: move to wall
>activated order 2
>Order 2: climb wall as full order action
>Order 1-action 2: shoot at a target that is only visible from the position on the roof

So I'm asking if I can do those actions with only 2 orders, or if I have to use 3 (and idle during the unused actions). I understand that if this is allowed, it'd still proc 2 AROs (1 from climbing to the top of the roof and possibly entering their LoF, and 1 from then shooting at them once on the roof)

The combi rifle malignos.

One of the Seed Soldiers with the knives. They look nice, have sexy pants, are similar enough to Mal and can count as any profile. Also none of the terrible old oversized guns. Noct has a quite distinct look with the fancy cloak, whereas Seeds and Malignos are both in that "Shas all look the same" category where many people can't tell the difference.

Nope. Orders can only start after the last one has stopped. Climbing without C+ is a bit of a bitch.

No. You have to finish one entire order before you can perform another.

Anyone else feel completely burned out after a game of Infinity? Maybe I'm just a brainlet, but I feel like I just put my brain in microwave when I'm finished with a game. Especially compared to 40k where you're pretty much just mindlessly moving and shooting at the most important target without having to think much about position and maneuver.

Yeah. Imagine playing 4 games in one day in a tournament.

>tfw can't relate

Sometimes. It's a satisfying feeling.

When I first started playing I was super burned out as well. Between looking up all the rules, and constantly checking every little thing about movement/ LoS, etc. Of course we didn't realize that the game was only supposed to last 3 turns so we'd have these massive 2-3 hour long slug fests. Nowadays I can play a game or two in an afternoon pretty leisurely, though as says a Tournament usually takes a fair bit out of me.

I'm the same one. I have one very satisfying game. It's a big help when both players talk vague strategies before the game start. Unfortunately, the buddy I play with has shown that he's less willing to help me out with setting up the table in unfavorable ways than I am with him.

What's up with those sleeves on the rightmost chick though? It's like they're designed specifically to expose the armpits, and they don't seem all that connected to the rest of the outfit. There just doesn't seem to be any point to them, and they're strange.

Are there any mordhiem-like campaign rules for Infinity, where each of the models in your force can advance?

I imagine you can homebrew something using the spec ops rules.

In the old campaing: Paradiso book, there were rules for a story driven campaign, but the only miniature that advanced was the Spec:OPS

Yes, I do, a 3-game tournament is pretty exhausting. The reason why 40k isn't that grueling is because Infinity requires you to think and act throughout the whole game, while in 40k you can just leave when your opponent's turn starts and come back when he finished, all you do is roll your dice anyway.

There is also evacuation rules, so if you don't manage to save the downed spec ops or character, you might lose them.

Kaplan resculpt and/or exclusive sectorial when?

Kind of yeah, it's why I pretty much only play friendly games within my own social circle. I don't know if I have it in me for an all day tournament, let alone one of those multi-day ones. Each game is really great fun but I don't know if I need more than 2 games in one session max.

I play Yu Jing, but I hate kuang shi spam as it is clearly easymode tactics

Just learn basic good play. Yu Jing even without Kuang Shi is a highly flexible faction that can employ a vast array of tactics. Learn things like good deployment, efficient order expenditure, and placing ARO pieces well to improve your play. Try to aim for lists with at least 14 orders while learning, low order lists are easy to cripple in one turn of combat. Beyond that, it really depends on how you want to play your YJ.

>gimp myself
>y i no git gud

Alternatively, play JSA, they don't have Kuang Shi.

Kuang Shi are NOT necessary.

Yu Jing has great smoke/msv tricks, a great drop troop, fantastic infiltrators, solid bots, etc. Pick 2-3 HI and support them.

>only 2-3 HI

hac tao nigga

There's a very easy solution to your problem. It involves not taking Kuang Shi.
And desu they don't tend to be quite as easymode when you don't know how to deal with impetuosity and a chunk of your regular orders run in front of a sniper like retards. Kuang Shi only really become ridiculously fantastic when you've got some experience.

Welcome to anime.

80s anime in particular has a ridiculous kind of style to it.

Those aren't sleeves, bros. They're spaulders, essentially an older version of pauldrons that used overlapping plates rather than one big piece. Apparently,
they even made a bit of a modern-day comeback in the form of “deltoid auxillary protectors.”

Fashion splaulders made of cloth with cuffs?

Or covered with cloth. Or made out of rubberized foam a’la motorcycle pads.

Or maybe you’re totally right and it’s just a fashionable callback to real protective gear in the same way it was fashionable to wear clothes that looked like brigandine but were simply cloth or light leather with brass studds in them. All I’m saying is that it doesn't have to be just “lol thise whacky japs.” The design didn’t come from nowhere.

The thing is that they doesn't look that much like actual spaulders and she doesn't have any other protective gear on outside her jumpsuit. Spaulders tend to go on top rather than wrap around, I've never seen any with cuffs. Those just look more like detachable sleeves that have a big hole to make them easier to fit over your shoulder.

Not really, after coming to Infinity from Malifaux, Infinity has a relatively streamlined and intuitive ruleset. It's not perfect, obviously, but as far as complex systems go Infinity is designed to flow very well. The way that a lot of special rules share core mechanics, for example, crits of ammo that deal 2 hits only negating the first armour save, regardless of ammo type and how all mods are multiples of 3. Also that special rules are universal across all armies make for little downtime checking books, as you can memorise them easily, as they are the same for everyone and there isn't a whole lot to remember, compared to memorising the army books of all of your opponents in 40k. Games are usually 2 hours or less as well, compared to other systems where a game goes for 3 hours, so I've found Infinity tournaments to be less draining than tournaments during my days playing WHFB, Malifaux or 40k.

If you come from a computer programming background, you will see similarities between Infinity and object oriented programming. The nested skills and core mechanics of the game definitely have elements of polymorphism/inheritance/classes. I would not be surprised if whoever is writing the rules has an coding background. Does anyone know?

If they were a coder working for me, I'd fire them. Jesus the coding style and documentation is terrible.

Played a game and finished painting up a Daofei today. I had my butt handed to me in an adhesive covered silver platter playing the Hunting Party mission vs Nomads. Every plan A, B, and C of mine to score points failed spectacularly and I had a mistake with Crazy Koala placement that allowed a hellcat to find a niche to land and wreck plus glue many of my units starting with my engineer and only stopped by the E/M grenades of my Domaru Lt. The Hellcat tanked surprise shots from my Raiden, full burst shots from combi rifles, and a Rui Shi during my active turn.

I've rolled at most a four in both my attempted CC hunting of specialists and their Lt and my Haramaki Missile Launchers couldn't roll higher than a six vs Morlock dodging and returning fire upon units targeting the Haramaki. I'd call it a learning experience as I feel like I learned from some of my mistakes outside of luck from the deployment I had.

But on the plus side I think the camo effect and armor of this Daofei turned out decent. Although the face plate is kind of weird. I was thinking of adding an orange stripe or some marking.

Second photo to come.

I did like how the camo pattern on the cloak turned out, it was a bit of an experiment but came with a neat effect. I should perhaps try to find a way to add a bit more contrast to the textured edges of the camo cloak though, or maybe I'm overthinking it.

Consider playing more straightforward, "Limited Insertion" lists with 10 orders. The less special rules you have to remember and the fewer models you have to keep track of, the easier the game is to play. Remember that most of your orders will be spent on Move+Shoot and the game becomes pretty quick.

Female Zuyong sculpts when

I wish.
Then again, i like zuyongs as a squad of completely identical guys. Like a legion of identical terracotta warriors.
But yeah, female zuyongs and invincible army when?

Im kicking around a list using both zuyong models. What do you guys think zuyongs can be used for given their current lack of links? I bought the models on that sort of "it" that makes you really love a model. Though i havent found any particular strong points.
Multi rifle seems good but not great.
HMG automedkit seems like some monkey-paw bullshit since automed takes an order and fails half the time.
I love zuyongs and will run them regardless but damn if they dont get shot more often than not.

Forward observer is great. Pistols and pulse help you cover rangebands, it's cheap as shit. Automedikit is actually good for the Lt SWC cut. You could totally field three of the dudes, cover them with fairy dust and have fun

HMG is a great time. AMK is good if you want to play balls out with your lieutenant since there's a SWC discount and chance to revive, but otherwise I'd just use the normal one since the AMK isn't worth paying 0.5 extra SWC.

Multirifle is for proxying as a specialist. Cheap HI specialists are good stuff.

ML is okay too, 2 wounds can help it remain an annoying risk for longer.

Will never happen gook

PanO will fall when its connections to CA are exposed

I'm still waiting on the missile launcher and a Shang ji sculpts to form an epic fireteam.

>Zuyong missile launcher

>Shang Ji AHD

Sure, try to scapegoat PanO, while the Shas pull up their tents on Dawn.
Ain't fooling anyone here, dogfuckers!

>inb4 Shang Ji come only in a box and you need to buy 3 useless models nobody uses to get the only good profile the unit has
Those poor fucks did not take the N3 changes to HI speed well. I still maintain that they need saving, the only reason to use to use them even in a shared link is because superior Zuyong don't have a hacker.

The flamethrower is nice too, but I agree. I can't even see myself runnung the fireteam: duo, as you'd need to run an Evo and pump orders in.

...

damn this is some juicy new stuff right here

Flash pulse is amazing.

Sup fa/tg/guys, advice needed here. I recently jumped into this game and I want to build a nice ISS army. I already have the YJ half of Red Veil (with the ninja), Kanren, Garuda and MR Crane, what should I get next? I was eyeing the Wu Ming box + Zhanying to make a core team, Sophotect, Lunah, maybe dire foes for Xi Zhuang and bots. Is there anything more useful that I'm missing? I'm trying to stay at 1 combat group so I can learn without being boggled with a million rules and models at once.

Btw why is the ISS starter filled with such clunky profiles? The only useful one is the spitfire Crane, CG with combi I don't see how to use them effectively (and I already have zhanshi if I want to proxy other profiles), same with zhanying and pheasant.

Also general ISS advices and stuff I guess.

CG with Combi are there because they're the sectorial's "basic infantry", just like Bolts in NCA starter. They are an effective link team, but the only CG profile people care about is the Kuang Shi Control Device + Smoke one. Get this guy, get some smoke for your Hsien.

If you already know what your link team is going to be, just go for it. By the looks of it you should have enough to fill 300pts with 10 Orders. Otherwise I'd tell you to go for Su Jian.

The CGs can do 3 things:
>sit at the back and pump orders while acting as potential lieutenants
>get linked with a Crane and go on jackboot stomping adventures
>proxy as hacker and/or Kuang Shi controller

Zhanying ML is there to be linked, either with a Hsien HMG or with a pack of Wu Ming. ML is a fucking crazy defensive weapon at burst 2, especially with Zhanying's native sixth sense.

Pheasant shotty is the cheapest profile if you just want the CoC, but it's expensive enough anyway that I wouldn't recommend it. Better to proxy as the combi+madtraps or red fury profile.

As for things to get, that depends on what you'd like to base your list around. Wu Ming link is a good one.
There are some general purpose support tools to look at though:
>Yaokong remotes are extremely versatile and very good, get them
>Yaoxie remotes are less versatile but still very good, get them too
>Sophie is great, get her
>Kuang Shi are cheap orders, okay warbands and a nice backline core link if you want to focus your points elsewhere. Best to hold off on them until you're going above 10 orders, but they deserve a mention anyway

Anything on your painting table today? I'm about halfway done with my two most useless models, Bolt Paramedic and Fusilier LGL.

>Fusilier LGL
>second most useless model
Damn, your collection sounds optimized af

I wish I had willpower to paint, I haven't finished a single model in half a year.

Please give me a list of worse units. I'm legit curious as to what your thought process is here. I can think of maybe 3 for the faction as a whole, a few more if we're talking vanilla only.

Budgetary constrains mean I avoid buying tat. Well, most of the time. LGL Fusilier isn't even good linked.

Hmm, let's see what I would consider bad in my collection:
PanO:
>Bolt Paramedic
>Fusi LGL
>Bipandra
>Clipper Dronbot (built 4 different Dronbots just so they don't look the same, never used as Clipper)
>ORC MR and BSG (got just to complete the set)

The rest is stuff that's maybe not "top of the top", but still has a use (e.g. Aquila Guard, Holy Sepulchre, Konstantinos). I simply don't buy stuff like Teutons or Bolts, even if they were good I just wouldn't be interested in running them (like I am not interested in running Hospitallers).

Nomads:
>everything that isn't Corregidor, with the special mention of Grenzer Sniper
>Intruder Combi + Light Ft
>Tomcat DEP

Special mention goes to Hellcats; not that they're bad, I just got fooled into buying way too many.

Caledonia I can't really comment on, as I've not even assembled the lot, let alone play. I'm still considering if I shouldn't sell it.

I'm not counting stuff like Outrage pack or Civvies.

How much of Zoe is still flesh? Should she have STR instead of W? Or is it only really cosmetic.

Given Asuras and Achilles have wounds I think it's okay.

What the fuck Nomad models do you even own if "Not Corregidor" is enough to make it bad?

Non-Corregidor models are useless to me because I play Corregidor rather than vanilla. Duh.

That would mean Spektrs, Zero, Reverend Healer and Custodier, Grenzer, Uberfallkommando (though I use them instead of Jaguars), Kriza Borac and a few more.

I already have pretty much everything I need to play Corregidor the way I want to, so anything else is just an extra, usually bought for aesthetics.

Oh, and if I were to list my "most useless Nomads", the list would probably be the same: Grenzer Sniper, Intruder Combi, Tomcat DEP.

How would you fix the three non-specialist Tomcat profiles, aside from just shaving SWC off? There has to be a way.

Hard mode: they can't just be made into specialists

How does this 300p Haqq list look ?

Code: CwBgjAPgzCIQEgQwI7IASIHaIMYHtMATRCMAUhnLBADYBWMgQnMrOroE4mXw3apuFXtRoAmJlAGSBYMAA5xjAOxCV1DisZyh22b0ZQGkhrLk1usECdo0VoqGAGNR2qC7Zga25i1kewKgAC1BQhsmDigYFAA

Also - how is Anaconda?

Imperial discipline on the bedroom.

*in

Well, the anaconda sure isn't worth 3 SWC

Also, 11 orders is a bad place

It's 2 SWC

Why?

Al Fasid compared to Anaconda:

>Cheaper (by 9 points and 1 full SWC)
>Longer range (both have BS13, DAM 15, burst 4 weapon)
>More utility
>Immune to TAG targeting programs
>Fix-able by our amazing doctors
>Smaller target
>Able to go prone and dodge better

The Anaconda does have +1 ARM and +2 PH (but -6 to dodge) and the pilot that pops out, but I think the Fasid brings a lot more to the table.

The Anaconda does bring a LFT and panzerfaust, but heavy pistol, lgl +smoke, minelayer, veteran, and sixth sense outweigh that in my opinion

You're paying 1 SWC to get access to Mercs in soldiers of fortune. Which means you're paying 3SWC to take the anaconda.

And 11 orders is a bad place because having two combat groups makes you vulnerable to the strategic use of command tokens where, if you go first, your opponent can spend a command token to take away two orders from one of your combat groups. Having only one combat group makes you immune to this. So taking a second combat group with only one model isn't really worth the trade-off

How many orders makes it worth the trade-off?

>>everything that isn't Corregidor, with the special mention of Grenzer Sniper
*full auto intensifies*

Fair enough. I did not know about the 1 SWC cost to take Mercs. For which types of games does this apply? I do not own the anaconda yet, but wanted a point expensive merc model so I could be less constrained to singel faction with my collection.

So if I have only 1 combat group, opponent can't use this?

If I'm doing a two combat group list, it's usually about 14 orders. When I play haqq, it'll usually be a little more, like 16, and with Hassassin Bahram I usually have around 18 orders. This is largely personal preference, but most people agree that 11-12 orders usually isn't worth the trade-off. That being said, if you plan for it, it can work, and I have used 11 order lists successfully in season 9

Speaking as CA, we don't have any connections with Ariadna. I wish we did; T2 is the shit.

In army, if you uncheck the box for mercs it'll show you all the units you can normally take, including mercs. If you check the box for mercs, it let's you make a list for the optional "soldiers of fortune" extra. Tournaments will advertise whether or not they are allowing soldiers of fortune, and as for casual games, you'll just need to come to an agreement with your opponent.

And yes, as of season 9, all single combat group lists are immune to that strategic use of command tokens

Thanks.

1 SWC sounds steep. What is the point of doing this, were they so OP?

Is there actually any merc worth the extra 1 SWC?

With the funding of the hyperpower, CA can put tents anywhere. They can even put them in Nomad transports.

Well it's 1 SWC for up to 75 points worth of mercs, so it can be worth it if you build your list with that in mind.

Also keep in mind that as a new player to infinity, the most important thing is to just play some games. Knowing how to use your list is way more important than what your list actually consists of in this game

>Is there actually any merc worth the extra 1 SWC?
