In my setting, elves are a dying race

>in my setting, elves are a dying race
Any examples where this isn't true?

In my setting, all the elves are already dead.

It fits perfectly with their general trope. The dying beauty of a lost world.

Dragon Age technically.

Elder Scrolls. Unless the Stormcloacks get their way I guess.

They're still "dying" in the sense their nations/society are being destroyed. Divinity does a similar thing.

Well the Dalish are dying out. They’ve been forced onto reservations and their land is slowly dying out.

>Unless the Thalmor-supported Stormcloaks get their way, clearing the path for Mer to undo Mundus and completely destroy mankind while they return to the stars
Yeah no fucking genius idea Ulf. We'll totally fuck the elves by being Stormcloaks.

Bright? Elves are top dogs there.

The thing with Elves is they’re basically humans only hotter, faster, stronger and more magical. If Elves are at full strength then Humans are ants in comparison. They need to be dying out to give Humans an even footing or to explain why Humanity is dominant.

Both the Dwemer and the Falmer fit the "dying/dead Elf race" trope.

>dwemer
Wrong as hell. They didn't die out, they ascended to a higher form of being.

Their slow reproduction and physical fragility are points against them though. Also, they often refuse to use more advanced production techniques which gives humans material advantages.

They fucked up and zero-summed into Numidium m8.

We have that scenario in Shannara, user.

Exactly. I chose to interpret that as a higher state. Nobody said higher is better, mind.

I'm aware of the specifics, but they fit the "dead ancient elf race" tropes insofar as the basic setting and normal gameplay is concerned. They are functionally gone from the material world.

The problem with this is that it makes them even MORE appealing to the kind of player who always needs to be a special snowflake. Rarer=Better, even if it's a huge liability to the survival of your species in general.

>in my setting, elves are all dead

In my setting elfs ate all humans and orcs.

>>in my setting, elves are a dying race

I never understood this one...they live for thousands of years and never produce any children why?

Human man and Elf Woman can easily produce offspring and so can Elf man and Human woman....

Do elf men and women see their races opposite sex as unattractive?

It's always handwaved that elves live for so long that in their perspective even eons feel like a few days, so a couple that considers themselves kinky and happily married probably still have sex only once in a decade.

The Riftwar Saga by Raymond Feist, The Shannara Series by Terry Brooks before he went insane, Bardic Voices by Mercedes Lackey, etc. etc. etc.

Maybe if you actually read some books you wouldn't have these issues.

They'd rather have kinky sex for years until their dicks run dry. See, there is only so many times an organism can cum and menstruate but the earkin are high on their horses and think they can push their dick and vags to the limit. 400 years of weird fetishes later, the elf male finds his semen is insipid and powerless and the elf female finds that her vag is like an ugly wet taco, and lemme tell ya, wet tacos taste like shit. Hence why they are a dying race. They ran the fertility of their own race to the ground becouse apparently, having children is beneath them.
If this isn't poetic justice, I dont know what else it could be.

Shadowrun.

Tinkerbells, rockmen and lizardmen are dead, not elves.

Everything bad that happened to those fucks is their own fault.

Or like in the Witcher elven women ovulate every 10-20 years

A solution could be having the elves being enemies so...
> "I'm high elf Drizzt!"
Fuck.

The Thalmor do not support the Stormcloaks

It comes from super-elves that if they weren't a dying race there is no reason they wouldn't be the dominant race.

If you notice, settings where elves aren't dying out are ones where they elves aren't all super-human.

I prefer to make elves savants. Since they're immortal, they tend to focus on being really good at one thing and that's it. They can also get really particular about the one thing they're good at. It can range from being a fire magic specialist to specializing in only a single spell, or from being a weapon smith to making only one particular style of sword.

Because of this, you end up with elves who are really good at what they do, but absolutely hopeless with everything else.

Oddly enough, current Warhammer 40k.

Endless Legend, because when everyone's a dying race no one is.

Eberron.

Dragonlance I think

Just make elves more akin to nature spirits and shit, instead of flesh and blood creatures to which natural laws of reproduction apply.

This.

T. Ulfric

In my setting elves are a killing race.

Re-read the Ulfric Stormcloak dossier from the Thalmor embassy. They brainwashed Ulfric to make him seek a destructive rebellion (i.e., killing his biggest ally needlessly ensuring a lengthy civil war rather than uniting skyrim bloodlessly).

There was a screencap of some user’s setting where Dorfs and Elves are the pre-dominant races and Humans are a more simple race who live with Centaur on the open plains. Does anyone have it?

In my setting, you've got at least two elven races. The Moon Elves are dying out. The Sun Elves are doing just fine. Sure, they've turned themselves into a jungle-dwelling tribe of amazons, but they're a vibrant and thriving people.

>Amazonian jungle elves
Rad.

Only technically.
The Daelish are far too fertile to actually fade.
City elves have good standing. Outside of being a poorly written Jew parallel, not really.
All "the lore" brought along, is that Elves where never the top dog. They merely didn't get to bring their Deities along with them to the world that is a poor knockoff of Warhammer Fantasy.

Weren't their deities just magically powerful elves with massively overblown egos that started buying their own hype?

Regardless, the Humans are the dominant species because after the Fade was sepearated from the Physical World, the Elves did not get to bring along their Gods.
The humans did, all 5 of them.

best setting

Discworld.

everyone's a dying race
except vaulters ;^)

>Elves are faster, stronger, more beautiful, and more intelligent than humans
>”Weaknesses”, such as dying out or low birthrate, only serve to make them more badass because they can and must slay hordes 10:1 and never actually fucking die out
Fuck Elves

Elder scrolls's Altmer are flourishing, the Dunmer are very influential and the Dwemer left the world and ascended into something superior, so yeah, there is your example

Yeah, well in MY setting... the elf population is always the same number. New elves can only be created after another has died.

git gud

I thought the Dunmer had completely eaten shit after their country blew up in the Red Year, and the Argonians decided to get their own back after so many years of slave raids on Black Marsh.

Just make them the bad guys, so that PCs have to work together to kill an elven warrior.

>Something the Elves don't like to discuss is the extent to which their typical lifespan has been /increasing/. Fragmentary records from centuries long past suggest that Elves are becoming /less/ mortal with each generation. The oldest living Elf, a legendary sorceress in Corinne, is nearly seven centuries old ... but she's exceptional in the extreme. Most of the elves of /her/ time passed of old age somewhere around their 200th year, far sooner than elves of more recent centuries. Nobody knows why this is so, and nobody knows how long it's been going on. Some Elves arrogantly conclude that they are - only naturally! - destined to become the new race of gods, and are inheriting the divinity of the lost pantheons. Others fear that their long lives are a /cheat/ of some kind, the result of a forgotten spell or discovery, and that there must one day be a reckoning to return a natural balance. Some assume that, because they're born closer to the flow of magic, they benefit inevitably from the changes of the post-Skyfall world without any "divinity" implied by the process. Most prefer to change the subject. They watch their Dwarf and Human friends decay and die, and try not to wonder: should /we/ be dying alongside them?

Eragon? If I remember right, they were growing weaker over time, but not really dying out. Elf children were already crazy rare anyway, to the point that there were only two. Plus with the return of the dragons at the end, that basically fixed their whole 'fading' thing, along with the fact that they didn't have to hide in the forest anymore.

Not bad user, I like it. Nothing like species-wide survivors guilt to drive them to abmortal behavior.

What's positive about the destruction of The Swordwind?

Actually neat. I might steal this.

>there is only so many times an organism can cum
citation needed

>stars
You mean the holes into Aetherius?
>ywn ride a caliper fueled boat with your chiseled and tanned adonis brethren right into the sun on your journey to space valhalla

wow, so many mistakes in only one post. What does kinkyness have to do with fertility? Since when does an organism have a limited amount of cum? What does menstruation cycle have to do with the amount of times a woman has sex? What does kinkyness have to do with lack of reproduction? How does a race run its feritlity to the ground by doing sex?

Different user.
Not sure about cumming but we are born with a set amount of eggs and sperm from the get go and we don't get more.
I assume there has to be an upper limit to daily cumming though either by time limitations in a day or by physical limits of the muscles and local tissues.

no, women have a limited amount of eggs, men produce sperm as they live. And neither have long temr effects for coming many times a day(not in the fertility sense at least)

N-NANI?

Great, now i have to go read again.
I recall being told men have a set amount of sperm but that was from a dyke in a christian based school in the american education system so it could be iffy info.

This is pretty cool.

>elven adventurers journey because they're trying to protect the shorter-lived races and quietly are hoping to indulge in a death wish.

When i said upper limit of cumming i meant the actual act itself. There has to be some limit of the tissues before they get exhausted or damaged due to all the contracting and if you don't stay constantly hydrated actual ejaculate becomes severely reduced.

>There has to be some limit of the tissues before they get exhausted or damaged due to all the contracting
I am not even sure i understand what tissue or what contracting you are talking about, but do you think your hand will wither away and fall off if you use it too much? Skin and muscle cells die and are rebuilt. No amount of use will delete your body parts. ( except your bones with arthritis, but hopefully elves don't suffer from that or they would all be crippled before reaching their adulthood)

>Amazonian jungle drow

made it better for you.

I get I put it over 2 posts on the same subject but I was referring to a DAILY upper limit.
Lets say you and your chosen partner are going at it all day. The muscles that facilitate those orgasms in both would feasibly give out if they aren't rested and I know for a fact the softer tissues will bruise and you can strain your prostate from this as well. Kegels could eliminate some of this and reduce the risk of others but at some point unless you rest there is a soft cap on how many times you can cum.
I'm not saying your dick will fall off or their vagina will magically turn to dust just that neither organ will be able to keep doing what its doing unless there's potty and snack breaks involved.

Related tangent you can actually cause penile plaque and a similar issue in the vagina with too much repeated excessive physical stimulation which can hinder things like sensation or erections, females get some weird issue with the tissues becoming engorged, to it just plain not becoming erect.

>Christian based
There’s your problem. It’s the puritanical influences still messing with our society and rationalizing lying to kids to control behavior via ingrained fear rather than just reasoning with them over time and actually teaching them shit.

Being retarded is not the same kind of handicap as being Christian.
Besides, the guy spreading the misinformation seems to suffer from rationalising faculties as well.
Also what model would you use to replace the "puritanical" teachings?

oh , i don't know then, i guess so. Just do defend the way i misinterpreted, you clearly said set amount of sperm in the first post and so i thought we were still talking long term. The daily limit is probably not an actual limit, like with exercises, it depends on some factors guess. But after some times coming in a row, you stop ejaculating almost completely.
Also i didn't know vaginas could get wasted like dicks honestly. But the dick one at least has more to do with wrong and as you say excessive stimulation then the timeframe of the stimulation.

>reasoning with them
You fucking retard don't try this if you have kids. They need to be big enough to reason first and by that time they are not kids anymore.

Vagina's can have their ability to self-lubricate overwhelmed(depends on arousal, hydration, natural inclination, what they ate, etc.) and being "sub-lubbed" puts excessive strain on the tissues causing micro-tears and scarring the same way aggressive masturbation causes micro-tears and scarring in dicks. Ontop of this the actual area becomes engorged with blood so excessive slapping can cause pressure in the area as its being squeezed like a water balloon between whatever is slapping it and their pubic bone. Its rare as far as i know but it can happen and the worst of it is basic nerve damage.

Model to replace puritanical teachings? How about not shaming people for having body parts that we don’t regularly display to the public. That’s kinda what’s at issue in that anons post.
At what age would you say that starts? The kids in my neighborhood show reasoning capabilities at around three or four it seems.
My wife teaches preschool and she doesn’t seem to need to use religion and body shame to get her charges to (mostly) do what she wants. Frequently complains that the parents don’t talk to and give their kids enough credit. Granted she also complains about the two or three every year that just plain don’t get it and wont stop pushing boundaries.

I don't think I've ever actually used this trope before in my games, now that you mention it.

In my setting, humans all succumbed to a curse, so all the vast human cities are deserted and rotting and filled with swarms of vicious ravens.

The humans were like the glue holding all the ancient races together, so the elves and dwarves reverted to ancient grudges and isolationism

Then the archetype doesn't count either.

In Middle Earth the elves aren't dying, they are emigrating.

It's a long story, but they're basically one part Warhammer Amazons, one part nu-House Escher, and one part Dark Skinned Blonde warrior-women.

In my setting all the elves are dead and have been replaced by glamour using fae who are even bigger dicks

In my setting, the elves are Making their Forest Great Again, so there's that.

>A thousand year autocratic dynasty produces an infertile """""Half-Elf""""" puppet of the neighboring human kingdom as the sole heir to the Elven lands

>The oldest Elves tell stories to their children of how great things were before the ice age, before the monkey-blooded matriarchs took power.

>Former adviser of the present 'matriarch' organised and orchestrated a coup, burning the matriarch at the stake and hanging the human ambassadors. Dissolves the government and declares anarchy, the natural state of being for the elves.

Of course he doesn't realize his benefactors in Not-Stalinist Russia only supported him as a pawn in their defeat-in-detail scheme to conquer the remainder of the continent, but that's a story for another time.

In setting I'm running now the elves were mostly converted to serve the evil, so they aren't a dying race, not until the party gains a few more levels and makes them one.

noice

My elves, the Riddari, have since lost their milenia long lifespans for reasons unknown and now only last slightly longer than humans. Some think because they left the forests for cities of gilded marble and decorated granite and living like animals for nobility and artistry but the truth is they lever lived in the forests to begin with, it's all an invented history by poets that romanticized the wilderness too much.
Population wise, though, they're doing great.

I say again: rad.

So my mind read this sideways and I thought of jaguar elves, darker skin tone to hide in the canopy shadows, skilled at falling out of trees as an attack, giant jungle spider pets. dwellings in extremely thick canopy areas. A constant threat as the party moves toward the ruined pyramid to retrieve a spell trove of a civilization long dead. which is coincidentally Fish People

The general belief in my setting is that elves aren't technically alive to begin with, instead just being very complex philosophical zombies that serve as NPCs in the great games of the Gentry

dwarf fortress

they breed like rats and persist despite all attempts to exterminate them

Well, in The Dark Eye they already had their cataclysm and are now sort of pseudo native-americans and inuit. They are not dying, but their best days are clearly behind them.
In Dragon Age they are dirty slaves and/or largely useless, but at least they're not dying anymore than everybod else is.
Warcraft elves are struggling with a bunch of shit, but overall their civilizations are doing reasonably well.
Shadowrun elves are doing well, though most wish they weren't. Bunch of assholes need nuking.
Dwarf Fortress has elves as horrible cannibals that breed like rats, are impossible to appease and go to war like lemmings.
Also, Age of Sigmar elves, at least the ones from Azyrheim, are doing just as well as humans and dwarves are.
Most japanese settings also have elves as just another race, for what it's worth. They barely ever explore the dying race angle.

humans are just more fertile

Men always produce semen, the quality declines with age like with every other cloning process in the body. Women are born with like two million eggs and don't actually run out, their bodies just eventually decide this menstruation thing is more trouble than it's worth and calls it quits.

>A setting where all of the other fantasy races are flourishing
>Humans are endangered and struggling to survive
>Most races are cautiously neutral to Humans and, due to their struggle for survival, no one really trades with them because they have little to nothing to offer
>A lot of Humans defect from their shantytown-like settlements to the fortified cities of Elves and Dwarfs
>Most shops will trade with them and inns will accept them, but people are still cautious and sometimes even charge Humans more for less

>elf haters are stupid enough to be frogposters
Who could have guessed?

In my setting, the Fey were refugees from a doomed reality who settled on "earth". They were ageless and lacked a physical body, but due to the wishes of the gods of this universe, their offspring were matter bound and mortal. Slowly but surely they became more and more like humans until they became the modern elves, which are for all intents and purposes the same as humans. And while all the intermediate forms have long since died out, there are still a few remaining True Fey, who are generally bitter about the whole thing.

Does it count if the elves were quite advanced and successful, and only exterminated as part of the storyline? They weren't dying out, they were just destroyed in one day by a meddling god.

My setting has a fixed quantity of Elves (although the amount active in the world at any given moment fluctuates), so they aren't dying out.

It counts double

>Elves being able to live around more than twice as long as a Humans would make them wise to an unimaginable degree, yet that would be false. Somehow, the Elves were able to destroy their own empire while ruling most of the Continent within one Elven lifetime. As patient as an Elf can be by biding time, they are still quick to anger, depression, and happiness like those straight out of antiquity. Having lived for a long time, some of them are able to quickly resolve the matter by wiggling themselves out through negotiation or violence before the other party knows what hit them.

They aren’t the Big Dogs in my setting’s now but are still live and kicking. The race isn’t dying but have managed to fuck up their hold on the worldstage. I also didn’t want to have insane Elves and Dwarves with Alzheimer and a death-wish running around.
