Why the fuck would Drukhari ever fight Necrons? Only reason I can think is inadvertently, or if the Necrons have some cool relic they want - but they can't torture robots.

so would i be looking at 2 patrol detachments in smaller games (1000pnt)? and then a patrol of harlis and a battalion of deldar in larger games? isn't this the best way to make sure traits dont get fucked with? sorry if it's a dumb question im still not 100% on the detachment system as opposed to force org.

I'm starting a custodes army for hobby purposes primarily, honestly looking over their rules it doesn't look like they're going to be that powerful but don't really care always wanted to work with something more fancy looking than guard or orks. However I do want to build a list that's somewhat good until the forgeworld stuff eventually gets added, how does this look?

A guy (30 yrs old) at my LGS is bragging and being a general cunt on the Custodes being "un-tableable" and that he hasn't lost a game in 10 years.

He only play escalation leagues and picks easy targets. I've only been playing 40k for 2 months with an eldar army. I called him out and challenged me to a 1500 pts match.

I want to beat this guy badly.

Land Speeders any good? They're pretty zippy, and look like they can unload a whole lot of shots if ran in a full squadron, especially if stacking heavy bolters and asscans, but from their stat line it looks like you can pretty much knock them over with a stiff breeze. Are they viable, or should I stick with attack bike squads for speedy ground based massed dakka?

At the moment there's no good reason not to make it a combined "Aeldari" detachment, though obviously that'll change soon.

Harlequins can comfortably fit a patrol with 1 Troop master/Shadowseer and 5 Harlequins in a Starweaver (or webwaying in if you like).

For DE I'd say you should be able to fill a battalion easily, given cheap and spammable troops units. I'm a fan of 1x Kabalite Raider, 2x Kabalite Venom, but it's a matter of taste. Sprinkle with HQs to taste. After that add in whatever you want (Harlies fill the elite melee role, so big guns from a ravager or plane would be a good start). So long as you realise that you're not playing craftworlds you'll be fine.

Harlies are great. Wyches are OK.

Big wych units can be webwayed in turn 2 with a rerollable charge, and are incredibly irritating to get rid of when they're tying up 2-3 units in close assault. Chances are at least one of those units isn't getting out, and the ones that do aren't shooting your precious kabalites that do all the actual damage.

Archon I think you are over thinking this why go through all that trouble when there are perfectly good mon-keigh to play with right over there, they even defected to the blue ones so no one will care if we take them.

I'm kind of torn. I want to add some Enlightened w/ greatbows to my army, but I don't want more birbs beyond the standard infantry. I need to work out a kitbash to make something between an Inceptor, Disc-Sorc and a Warp Talon.

I don't own any custodes yet I'm just planning out what pains and shit I'll need in addition to the models, where I live shipping is expensive so I'm always inclined to make bulk purchases

Hobby wise I'm still trying to figure out how I want to paint them exactly. I want to go for the more burned gold look of the forgeworld custodes but haven't had any luck figuring out how to achieve this look. My guess is something like prime black, basecoat retributor, then maybe 1-2 washes of something like 2:3 nuln oil, agrax earthshade? If anyone knows of any painting guides I'd appreciate it

Neither. Three captains is too draining for mono-custodes and a plain Jane unit of 3 bikes, while badass, can get wiped quickly. Stodes seem like they need 3k to be fun, where you can take 2-3 captains and 2 units of bikes. In 2k everything for all armies just seeks so squished, even more than 1850 did in 7th. The game size seems a lot smaller now

This would unironically be the worst fucking thing to see across the table for custodes. 1-2 dead custode per ravager, per turn. Add in some cheap kabalites to take objectives off them, and soak up goldboy tears. Also chuck in wyches and watch them struggle to cut through absolute trash.

Poison must be pretty good vs custodes as well. Like having s5 guns across your infantry and transports, with bs3+. Could force a lot of saves

I think they were trying to play up the pirate aesthetic. If you get rid of the head and hands oh no wherever will I find spares for Dark Eldar? it actually looks pretty badass. I have one with an agoniser from the wych kit, blast pistol from kabalites, and a reaver bubble-helm.

But yeah, unmodified the model looks like trash.
