Gaunt's Ghosts

So now Gaunt is a Lord General and second-in-command of the Crusade? Who wants to bet that all gets cancelled out in the next book when Yoncy is revealed as a daemonette in disguise?

>Warmaster Macaroth has crippling autism
the deepest lore

Anyone have the recent pdfs?

No, there are only epubs and mobis now. PDF is a dead format.

I thought she was just an undiscovered psyker.

Since when? Wasn't the lore completely inconsistent because Macaroth has only been written about like 4 times in 20 years before this book?

>Young officer who speaks sarcastically to Slaydo in "The Sabbat Crusades"
>Has intense focus and eye for details, according to "The Guns of Tanith"
>Pinned a medal on Gaunt's chest after Vervunhive, according to "Necropolis," totally willing to meet a nobody who might be contaminated by Chaos
>Young, barely older than Gaunt according to "Blood Pact"

She is a puppet of the "bad shadow" and is spared by the Tormageddon Monstrum Rex

New book features a personal appearance of the Warmaster. turns out Macaroth is micromanaging the entire crusade from his bedroom and his entire senior command staff hasn't seen him in months.

Surprisingly not bad and somewhat realistic.

Vs. most other 40k novels that define god tier leadership as punching the enemy warlord with a giant fist.

Don't forget that bit where Macaroth trolls Gaunt for like 2 minutes.

Technically he is Warmaster Elect or First Lord Executor Gaunt.

Awesome.

About fucking time. Been following this series going on 2 fucking decades.

Well, shit, I forgot pretty much everything about this series.
Who was Yoncy?

>Not letting Imperial Navy take care of small details like this while you're out punching things with your large metal fist

Really...

One of Tona's adopted kids, Dalin's sister.

Kolea had two kids, both boys.
Somewhere along the way, Abnett fucked up and forgot he made the babby a boy and referred to 'him' as a girl instead.
Eventually he noticed (not too long after readers did) and turned it into a plot point.
Spoopy shit started to happen concerning her, and in recent novels she's been heavily implied to be a daemonic...thing.

It's actually pretty neat, everyone around her feels compelled to protect her, and everytime someone thinks
>hang on, how is she still like ten years old, her brother is like 19
>wait, didn't Kolea have two boys?
they forget like five seconds later

The weird underage genderswapping thing now even has a mirror 'normal' plot in that Gaunt's son is secretly a girl and the two young men (Ludd and Dalin) that had confused feelings about the guy are now both suddenly relieved to find out he's a girl, and also in competition for her attention.
Oh, and she's physically 19 but mentally like 15, so both these whole plots are a deviant's wet dream.

Download?

There can't be any tanith left ffs, just give them a planet skip 30 years and have a new bunch take over.

Use warp fuckery if you have to

>so both these whole plots are a deviant's wet dream.

Is Dan Abnett a secret sex pervert?

Since you seem to know what you're talking about, who was the character he killed off then forgot he did and brought them back?

seconding that

tell me

that's a good point actually - how many Tanith ARE left? Like a hundred?

Why not? Pretty sure plenty of camp followers managed to get off planet alongside the original regiment, so there should be some replenishment, albeit at an awfully slow rate.

Of course

I've read this and Emperor's legion at the same time and I gotta say overall I liked Emperor's legion more that back to back last stand of Valerian and Aleya made me diamonds

Speaking of Commissars what about Caiphus Cain Hero of the Imperium? Last I heard he was on book 9 and that was a while ago. Any new ones? Also anyone got a pdf of 8 or 9?

I read the Eisenhorn omnibus and thought it was really, really freaking good. Pretty much shaped my entire view of 40k's aesthetic and internal logic. Then I read the entire first book of Gaunt's Ghosts and thought it was absolute trash, and just because of the saint plotline, it felt like a complete asspull. Mystical bullshit was so much better done in Eisenhorn, how can two books by the same author in the same universe be so different?

Merrt the sniper. He got shot in the face in one book and left for dead, then appeared as normal as a background guy in another.

That fuck-up turned him from a third-string nobody character into a tier two supporting character for like the next five books or so, funnily enough.

The first Ghosts novels were written earlier than Eisenhorn, when the 'modern' fluff wasn't nailed down in detail or tone.
They're also different types of books, Abnett is an actual author, so he can vary his approach and style of writing as the mini-genre of whatever he's writing demands it.
Even when dealing with IG, Double Eagle feels different than any Ghosts book, for example.
Ghosts are straight up infantry combat fiction, while Eisenhorn is a take on hardboiled detective fiction.

The second Ghosts books is a bunch of short stories from Inferno magazine jammed together, and the first Ghosts book is l i t e r a l l y the first Black Library book published.

Fluff gets created in eras, Abnett gets a lot of shit for disobeying fluff rules, but with his books he actually invented a lot of an era of fluff that lasted from Eisenhorn up to the return of Guiiliman.

Mhow fucking many books are there now. I thought i was caught up at 13

Promethium was an Abnett invention. As was Plascrete. There is so much in the canon that he created.

Well does anyone has them tho?

Over the last ... 15 years has Abnett learned how to write proper story arcs and actually build to an ending or does he still just write scifi warporn for kids that ends as suddenly as it begins?

I'm on Armour of Contempt, I love this series. Got Straight Silver-Only in Death at my local Goodwill. Can't wait to get to the Warmaster.

Also Lho Sticks and all that iirc.

Was it the first book published? Wasn't that the really old Ian Watson Space Marine novel?

>writes Geno Five-Two Chiliad OORAH
>Literally an army of hulking grunting sweaty men who frequently gangbang their commanding cadre of teenage hyper-libidinous blonde girls

Gee user, you tell me

Bumping for this.

,
Bonin too, he fell down the Spike in verghast and abnett forgot, so it was mentioned at a later novel and he got his "lucky" nickname

At the end of the first trilogy they were down a third or even a half...

Maybe 300 I reckon at this point

No my dude it's very much a point that isn't happening. Iirc book one they freak out because it's a dude only regiment and of 20k troops they salvaged about 8. I might be wrong as I read it a while ago though...

Gaunt goes to find Macaroth to find out what the fuck he's been doing instead of running the crusade, and finds a guy just looking at books, talking about Macaroth in third person. Gaunt gets increasingly frustrated as the guy won't answer his "where the hell is the warmaster" questions, and then the guy is revealed to be Macaroth. What a twist.

And he also gives Gaunt shit for saying there is no supper.

Macaroth really likes food

So, Macaroth is a micromanaging nerd and gives shit to Gaunt because he dared go to him without his tendies?

yeah but who gonna hit a homie up with the pdf?

I didn't see the thread yesterday, sorry. Hope you guys come back and check
