Rolling a d20 for your stats in 5e

One of my players on Discord talked about rolling a d20 for their stats. I thought they were just joking around but they actually said people do this. I told them that's ridiculous.

>This week, one of my fellow players shows me their sheet, laughing about how bad their stats are. Three threes.
>I ask them if they used the same stat system we were using, because rolling four fours three times is kind of insane.
>They look confused, and said that they rolled a d20
>I ask them why in the world would they do that
>They say "well we use the d20 for almost everything"
>WE'VE MADE CHARACTERS TOGETHER THREE TIMES. YOU HAVE SEEN US ROLL D6. YOU'VE ROLLED THEM.
>WHO IS SPREADING THESE LIES.

I'm spreading those lies.
Not letting normies see the the book and purposefully giving them misinformation and teaching them wrong. As a joke.
Sorry, not sorry.

Actually, you kinda did just answer my question.

Turns out people aren't reading the PHB, just flipping for char creation.

Fuck me no wonder nobody knows what the dodge action is.

That's also why people think skills can critical on 20

fucking preach. wheres that "ermegerhd nat 20 yayyy" img

I always get better stats when I roll, why would I not want a d20? I always usually get around 18, and I make a much better character than usual

You've got an equal chance of rolling a 1 or a 20 on a d20. It's too swingy because of the lack of curve.

They're having fun, user.
Can you say the same?

To be fair 5e has an utterly shit and badly organized PHB

>rolling for stats
lol

"oh emm gee, rolling a 20 makes me do anyfin!!"

>not rolling for everything

Well if the character can't succeed at a given roll why are you calling the roll?

Their fun kills my fun. Thus their fun must be punished.

I'll actually just bury my hate deep and let them have their fun as long.

>Playing a system that uses dice

>My DM says this
>He says this is how it was done in Basic
>And that 3d6 was an optional rule

Of course, he's a filthy pointbuy scum, so what does he know.

Playing with a 2 str or int is impossible out of an absurdist game.
and like

everything.

I did this once for the memes.
Don't.
It's impossible to balance for.

>Letting people roll their stats when nobody else is there to see it.
I'm pretty sure this is a war crime.

> Neb towenta men I wan et oll skall chocks

If the numbers of the character sheet go from 1 to 20 (give or take) and you have a dice that goes from 1 to 20, it's safe to assume that these things should be highly correlated.

My players were shocked that HP could go above 20 for very similar reasons.

Now I feel the urge to play xd6 systems out of contrarianism...

I bet he thinks Basic predates Advanced.
