Ok, now we're going to do the classic Isekai here: God is a Dick, and also a small child who will kill you for shits and giggles. He transports our protagonist to a fantasy world, giving him no significant skills or stats besides the ability to gain more skills and abilities.
Ok, now have the girl that came here with him quite literally Cuck him in Chapter 2, then leave him to die in a dungeon.
From there have him win an implausible fight against something much stronger than him, and gain its powers. Now make those powers give him a black cloak and a gun in a fantasy setting.
Oh, and then have video game text literally spell out "Abandon Humanity Y/N" as he eats a human heart, because fuck subtlety.
And that's the beginning of our character's Dungeon Crawl/Revenge Arc.
It hits every note. Every goddamn predictable not you could possibly imagine that any Edgelord anywhere would insert into his backstory, and it's fucking glorious for it. You laugh at how earnest, how predictable, and how cliche it all is.
I'm fairly certain that the Mangaka, when told he had to draw this LN, decided that he would make the series Its own best parody. It's the only way I can explain how fantastic this trash heap is.

I agree partly, but he still shows many character faults. Steals unapologeticaly, will do what she can get away with, eats like an animal. I know goblins are chaotic evil in nature but as with all races you can make an outlier if its explained. Im sure her history will be described and she probably was against her tribes cruelty, etc and was tortured/cast out for it.

KonoSuba is a nice Deconstruction of the genre.
Shield Hero at least manages its pacing well enough and provide enough conflict that it's interesting up to a certain extent.

Isekai Nonbiri Nouka isn't Edgy, and the main character is still OP, but it's basically Minecraft/Terraria Fanfiction. Still, it comes with a huge side of Comfiness. And dogs.
Jui-San no Oshigoto in Isekai is actually interesting. The Character's power is that he's a modern day veterinarian in a fantasy setting with things like Gryphons.
Ascendancy of a Bookkeeper is actually a Shoujo. It's the story of one girl who was reincarnated into a medieval village society, and her struggles as a young girl attempting to become Literate and gain access to books in a Pre-Printing society. It's fucking adorable, and practically Yostuba-tier.
And I've already said my piece on Dungeon Seeker here: There's plenty of good Isekai out there.

Goblin Slayer himself is enjoyable as something of a joke, with his autistic focus on killing goblins any way possible. It gets a little more fun when he joins a party.

The setting he's in doesn't seem to have orcs (that we yet know of). It does however have hobgoblins and even larger gobs called "champions." Champions are capable of giving the comic's not-Gatts a decent fight, and we haven't seen Slayer fight one; but he handles hobs just fine.

What's more, the elf word for goblin seems to be "orc," since the elf archer calls him "orcbolg." Forgot that part until I posted.

Yeah, but it makes sense. Which, really, is the core of the series. Goblin Slayer is "boring" in that he's exceedingly practical. The only reason I'd hesitate to call him a professional is because he's clearly insane - not in the fun, "haha that crazy Goblin Slayer" way, but in that he's fundamentally broken.

The series examines the idea of goblins being low-level threats that PCs don't really bother with after the first few levels, but can be very deadly if the GM plays them right. What you get is a horrific menace terrorizing farmers and villages on the frontier that aren't addressed and countered properly because A) Newbies get fucked up, B) Experienced adventurers don't bother because he's not profitable and there's other world ending shit happening apparently and C) There's no standing army or anything to deal with this problem.

As much as I personally enjoy Goblin Slayer, it has a double standard in that it tries to examine these things "realistically" but does so in a setting that is otherwise completely absurd and senseless once you scratch the surface.

My big issue with Goblin slayer is that it's rather incoherent with it's setting. It reads like one of those 'I'm so smart and rational' fanfictions, where someone is dropped into a setting that's only worked like it has before because apparently every single person is functionally retarded. Adventurers act like normal JRPG characters when the setting doesn't support people doing so at all.

And as a layman I have no fucking clue how to judge that armor and am willing to accept it being described by the characters as offering enough protection and being flexible as an acceptable explanation and reasoning for its use. I'm reading it because I like watching Goblin Slayer exterminate goblins and hang out with big tittied clerics, I don't care how the artist draws the armor so long as it makes some minimal effort to be reasonable.

I always figured the best way to look at it was that they were in a game run with GURPS or Genesys or something like that. Those games can get really deadly if you aren't careful, but they still give heroes a chance to shine. In the case of Genesys, the GM just stopped using Minion rules, or he gives goblins access to talents that let them crit high to kill people in the right circumstances.

The thing about the heroes in GS is that they can still get downed by a rock to the head or a poisoned blade in the gut. And, fantasy designs aside, the more effective heroes are actually somewhat practical. In the village defense arc, the two most effective supporting cast heroes were a not-Gatts and a woman in plate with a heavy shield. Her plate had frills and whatnot, but it was still plate.

The setting has a tendency to try and present a sort of slightly-heroic-leaning reality "tempered," by the potential for JRPG action. And orcbolg benefits from that potential just like anyone else. We simply forget because it manifests in an extreme tenacity, endurance, and cunning.

I think it actually gets better once they stop forcing ecchi into every chapter. It still makes an occasional comeback, but the series improved when that was no longer its reason to be.

The mail and cloth covers most of him, and the iron covers the most valuable parts. And yeah, it looks like some of the plate is articulated over a leather sheaf. There's really nothing wrong with it, considering he wants to be mobile enough to fight the big gobs while maintaining enough protection to stop the knives, clubs, and slings of the small gobs. Considering how most high-level heroes are using armor with frills, fins, and filigree, his kit is so "realistic," that it's almost a memetic example.

Sometimes he finds a hobgoblin or the goblins lure him into a trap or something, but he is almost always ready and has simple but clever plans to deal with the goblins and rarely things go out of his control.
He is obsessed with hunting goblins because he hates them and takes goblin missions even though they pay very little.

It turns out his "smartness" is due to the gods having no power over his decisions, so it's not that he is smart, it's just that the gods can't force him into making dumb decisions to go along with their plans. Oh, and the gods are shown as a bunch of Veeky Forums nerds playing D&D.
For such a stupid premise it is pretty decent, but don't expect anything outstanding.
