You're all wonderful people and I'm glad I get to spend time with you.

Post your favorite card friends. I just love miles of rules text.

>Thread Question

>first game with new group, i'm playing an awful jank triad of fates deck
>t1 fetch into scrubland
>hated out of every game for the rest of the night because i have expensive cards

my deck wasn't even good, probably at a lower power level than the rest of the table :(

>jesus christ, is that every possible commander? who the hell made this list?

Says at the top user.

That list is great because of all the asspain it's caused. Someone was mad that they're shit commander from Portals Three Kingdoms was like Tier 4 or 5 and pitched a fit despite it being a bad commander like most old Legendaries. Must suck spending $85 on a commander just to learn it's awful and almost everything from that set is trash outside of a few cards and the value comes from scarcity.

If I give a spell with Cascade Cascade does it have Cascade Cascade or just Cascade

Why is this card hated when it shuts down infinite combos that draw cards? From what I understand that's what it seems to be good for.

Hey user, stop being a shitter and posting garbage. Leave it in the other thread to die. Tier lists are retarded, end of story. We've had this discussion a billion times.

Now post some fucking janky ass magic cards that seem good, but will never ever work.

Reposting from last thread

Alright, /edhg/ I've been interested in Horobi's gameplay but I'm not totally willing to commit to monoblack -- do you think he could work casually as a Secret Commander in Lazav?

What the fuck does this even do? I understand that there are words printed on the card, but they make no goddamn sense.

if someone draws more than the first draw on their turn they discard a card

if they can't discard a card they mill one instead

doesn't replace the draw, just prevents the card advantage

Every time you draw a card outside of the one you draw during your draw step causes you to instead discard a card or mill one off the top of your deck if you have no cards in hand.

If a player will draw a card they have to discard a card first. If they can't discard a card they mill 1 instead. This doesn't apply to the draw step draw.

user, you don't get it. Play it with anything that makes you discard cards, like necrogen mists, or effects to force them to draw.

Oh, someone post the image.

>Players can only draw during their draw phase.
>If a player draws a card outside of their draw phase, that player must first discard a card.
>If that player cannot discard a card, mill a card from the top of their library instead.

>instead

you still draw the card, you just also discard

I fucking hate it when people hate on you just because of price tags on cards. I cracked a lot of packs back in the day and never got rid of any of my cards. Sometimes i won't even know a card is expensive until some sperg freaks out about it and attacks me because of it.

Got a mythic in a pack I bought the very day I started playing Magic. It's had a place in my heart ever since.

i'm a sucker for big fucking dumbass demons

i'd love to play a demon tribal deck but it'd be so bad i wouldn't stand a chance against my group

>i'd love to play a demon tribal deck but it'd be so bad i wouldn't stand a chance against my group
I know this pain all too well.

Maybe c18 will have Demons as a tribal. Or horrors as a tribal with demons enabling them. Or maybe some sort of low cmc grixis horror that makes horror shadowborne apostle tokens, that also has protection of some kind.

Fuck ya, demons man.

The old LGS I went to had some of the worst people about this kind of shit. I knew these people since I was a child and they were in high school when I was a kid and let me tell you they can go fuck themselves.

Absolutely anytime they had something good after it rotated out they'd trade it in for store credit for new Standard packs. Stacks of cards like Snapcaster, Thoughtseize, Cavern of Souls, and so on. All to end up getting garbage.

Now years later they resent anyone who's held onto anything nice and uses it in their EDH decks. I for example will run any fetch I have an extra from drafting and trading of because I'd rather it get some use than sit in a binder and they hated me for that. Also shit like Doubling Season which was a bulk dollar card for years.

They'd even pull shit like Mana Crypts in Eternal Masters drafts and than immediately trade it in for store credit just to get garbage. One of them the last time I'd heard about them pulled a FOIL mana drain and traded it in hoping to get Carnage Tyrant or whatever that green dinosaur is.

Absolute fucking retards.

>mfw I pulled out shit like a Revised Savannah

I traded about 30 CoCos back when I was new because I wanted to crack a deathmist raptor, which I never did. Shit sucked when it rotated and became a modern deck. I resolved to never ever do that again.

The first two Primal Commands to top deck someone's island who as stumbling on mana were playing to win. The following three were just for the fun of it and I sort of stopped playing to win there.
I still almost won, despite the other two non-neutered players going at me exclusively that whole time.

I know that feeling, but it's usually more of a pleasant surprise to me. I was trading with someone at the LGS a few weeks ago and apparently a Surgical Extraction, which I haven't looked at in 7 years is a $20 card.

jesus christ $20? i bought a foil playset years ago because i liked the art and phyrexian mana was new and cool

they've just been sitting in my binder untouched ever since

Neat. I've heard a lot about it, but I never understood what it did. Thanks.

>/edhg/: sometimes we're retarded, other times, 4 people explain Chains of Mephistopheles in under a minute.

You at least learned your lesson. These people for a solild 15+ years haven't learned anything and than want to be resentful towards others who have nice things be either because they pulled it from a pack years ago, traded for it back than or recently, or saved their money and bought it.

They're like people who never go off to college or learn a skill who resent people they went to high school with who did who are successful now while they have five kids and ten credit cards worth of debt.

Shit. They sound like the fucking worst.

A surprise to be sure, but a pleasant one.

i had the opposite happen to me back when i was new to the game
>get stomped by some mirrondin artifact bullshit
>crack a pack of lorwyn to end the night
>GARRUK WILDSPEAKER ($50 at the time)
>shark sees me open it and immediately tries to trade it off me for junk from his binder
>remembering how good that artifact deck was and having no idea how the game works, pick the coolest, shiniest-looking artifact from his binder
>we do the trade
>tfw garruk wildspeaker is now $10 and foil metalworker is $240

>Open any pack
>Garbage nearly 95% of the time
>Open any Conspiracy box with friends
>Foil mythics, every legendary creature, really expensive re-prints
>Don't trade it away because I know that I'll use them
>Can say to people how much it was that I pulled all my super expensive cards out of a box
>My face when countering shit with a foil stifle I pulled legitimately

It's gambling but I swear I always get double the box's worth whenever I open any Conspiracy set.

>Garruk wildspeaker
Well, that is my favorite walker, so at least he had good taste. It was $50? Does anyone else know cards that just fucking crashed?

Same thing happened to me with a set of Lotus Cobra and Time Spiral because the dude tricked me into thinking it was Timetwister and since I didn't have a smart phone back than and I was new I had no idea. Now they're $4 a piece and Time Spiral is around $50

I bet that store fucking loves them. Why they don't just trade for the card they want, or sell it and just buy the card is beyond me. Your story would sound made up to me if I didn't already know people like this in real life.

I understand that feeling of unknown and excitement when cracking a pack, but christ, come on.

he was one of five planeswalkers in the entire game and the best of the lot. he was a standard powerhouse in lorwyn/shadowmoor and the inflated price was similar to what happened to the scarab god recently.

It's really good in modern I guess. Makes sense when I bother to look at it.

it's probably something to do with dick pyx winning the gp

>I bet that store fucking loves them.

Retards like that are what every store wants. I'm sure mine will get an absolute shit ton of new Chandra after she rotates which would be nice for me because I have plenty of store credit from tournaments because fuck packs but I've already got one I want to run in Ruric Thar.

I know this general hates Planeswalkers in EDH but her first two abilities at 4 mana seem good to me.

>tfw pulled an Invocations Force of Will at pre-release
>tfw salty retard tears and resentment because I have something nice and they don't

I fucked up the most in trades when i
>traded Llili of the veil for the sorin in the same set (they were the same value at the time)
>traded a cheap at the time Dark Depths for some dumb Ajani.

I've been on the good side of dumb trades too though, so it works out.

she's played in a bunch of modern decks though :(

True but still store credit to me is basically free cards because I always place in at least 4th which means in store credit I get around $16 and after tournament entry fees for the next one I've got $11. After ten tournaments I've turned my initial $5 into $110 in store credit and I haven't spend any yet.

I've got het in Aurelia. She's been great in my experience.

I got a thoughtseize for a thundermaw hellkite....from iconic masters recently too, couldnt believe it when the guy said yeah thats fine.

Chains isn't even hard to understand. Even Banding is easy, it's just been memed on by brainlets. On the other hand, I've had to explain Gemini engine a billion times for some reason, even though it's a simple card too.

i just moved to a new city and there are no hobby shops anywhere. i don't want to drop the game but i don't know how to find people who play. what should i do?

>Gemini Engine
Excellent taste. I'm actually mindleech mass user, I run that sexy artifact bitch in my Xenagos deck.

Personally my favorite interaction to explain is Blood Moon. It always goes something like:
>Yes, all your nonbasics are fucked.
>No, you can't play anything with the red mana.
>Yes, I am a dick, but I'm playing mono red so suck it up.

I've never understood why Chains is supposed to be difficult to follow
Like I get its a wall of text but people talk about judges not being able to tell what it does and I don't understand

For some reason RNGesus decided to bestow upon me the gift of 7 Wooded Foothills from drafting and packs and a set is in my Modern Burn deck and three are in EDH decks. Whenever I use one this one dudes gives me this bullshit about how "some people don't have nice things" while he constantly borrows thousands of dollars from people, doesn't pay them back, and than buys Modern decks with the money he should be paying people back with.

Fuck people like that.

i can see how this would be confusing to a new player
>what is the twin's creature type?
>does it copy the +1/+1 counters on gemini engine?
etc.

Hello, I'm a new player trying to build a casual deck to play with friends, but I don't know what thread I should post in to ask for advice, it's seemingly only this, pauper and custom card. Could anyone point in the right direction?

Pic unrelated

nope, too sincere

try again tomorrow, maybe someone will fall for it

Point me in the right direction or I'll bang yer mum u daft cunt

Pic unrelated

Pauper

Problem here is that I'm running it in my Jor Kadeen deck and people can't fathom that the Engine is 6/4 and the token is a 9/4. I have explain it every time again for some reason, even during the next turn's combat.
I'm mostly talking about people who have played at least since Theros. Sure, I get it with new players, but GE is a special case, and the token gets benefits from any buffing equips and counters GE might have.

"At the beginning of your upkeep, if an opponent has more cards in hand than you, you may exile cards from the top of your library equal to the difference. You may cast nonland cards exiled this way until end of turn.

During each opponent’s untap step, that player can’t untap more lands than you control."

How's that for a Boros commander? I'm not sure how to cost it, and I feel like the first part might be overpowered.

>tfw I've been railroaded into a set of 7th edition City of Brass because I got two in trades and my autism wont let me have different set symbols in a set of cards.

Why'd they ever do white boarders?

is theros not "new" any more?

just get the foil from 7th :^)

What if it's not strictly pauper cards?

Pic unrelated

what are you hoping to achieve here

Thats pretty shitty for a boros commander, since it would cost well over 7 mana (its better than damia) in colors without ramp. Probably 9 mana, since that is the cost they put shit at when they just don't give a fuck anymore and it could win you the game.

Its essentially useless.

>thread question

A time i fucked up was playing any voltron deck ever. Eternal 3rd place and eternal salt from whoever got merked. Not worth it.

So the token gets the GE stats, plus the buffs as base, then it gets the buffs again? Seems simple enough once you get an explanation.

Well, Theros was released in 2013, so this would be 5th year of them playing. I started during 10th edition, so I'm somewhat new too, which makes it me playing for over 10 years now.

Get a thread pointed out. I can now see there is no specific thread and I've started to be obnoxouse. Sorry

Yeah, GE is 6/4 because of JK's buff, the token enters as a 9/4 for the same reason. It's simple, but people just don't get it. Even more fun is to explain when I control 2 artifacts before attacks. People just forget that metalcraft exists.

Here you go user, this is about as casual as it gets. Now fuck off you bumpkin.

tappedout.net/mtg-decks/atraxa-stax-2/

Double Cascade, yes.

love you too m8

holy shit that art is terrible

i've got a better idea

just a legendary boros creature that's a one-sided grip of chaos that only affects your opponents

That's a strange way to spell incredible

all alternate art prerelease cards have terrible art for some reason

they'll take a creature in a dynamic action pose with cool lightning and make them look like they're just standing around waiting for the bus

Like Flanking, each instance triggers separately

Sold Survival of the Fittest I've opened for like 10 bucks. Didn't have any decks with green at the time, now I have it in all of them

KORLASH YOU FUCKING BITCH.

>fucking implying

This shits all over Daarken's version

eugh... it's just so flat. there's no depth to it.

Good against infinites, labman or when a person is reluctant to talk about their new snowflake deck so I know what to expect. Won me games with kicker

i've never had a game where it wasn't super clutch

>Tried to get people together to play EDH the past 4 weeks
>Every time they’ve either been busy or canceled
>Even yesterday, when I had 4 people coming over, all but one had to cancel due to family or work obligations

Why does being an adult suck so hard?

responsibilities

Was the user who was saying any land that enters tapped is almost automatically garbage correct or was that another person who says stuff I could believe but is completely wrong

they're bad in competitive edh but in regular edh you can play guildgates and it's usually fine

Competitive/High Level = bad

Precon Level = fine

When you have to wipe the board in a clutch, but the last you drew etb tapped it hurts. So does not being able to combo two spells of the same color in one turn in a multicolor deck, because you only have basics. Pick your poison

Tapped lands are pretty bad, and you should only run them if they have great utility (bojuka bog).

In general it's better to just run some basics and some of the best duals you can afford (ABUR/shocks/fetches/painlands).

I would only consider running taplands if I we're completely broke, in 3+ colors, not in green, AND had heavy pip requirements in my spells.

Giving each of your opponents a timewalk against you is pretty bad.

Have Lands and Battle Lands are also good for budget.

Ran this in Zada and it became slow play the deck

Goodstuff?
More like funstuff!
:D

You better not be talking shit about one of the best Magic artists. His shit is fucking amazing

What does /edhg/ think of finding a decklist and than altering it to fit the cards you have/your budget? I found a Momir Vig list I like but I took out obvious top dollar stuff like Tropical Island, Mana Crypt, Mox Diamond, etc and replaced them with other cards.

The only reason to run lands that come into play tapped is price. Which is a fine reason, but it should be avoided whenever possible.

my man. MTG art died when RKF stopped making art for wotc. Seb is the only good artist left imo.

I think you're retarded if you think this is something to be worried about or that people would have strong opinions on

>Tapped lands are pretty bad, and you should only run them if they have great utility (bojuka bog).

So like Mistveil Plains?

>Seb is the only good artist left imo.
lol @ this meme every thread

Prove me wrong? His art is godly, its not a meme like nielsen.

Considering people think using EDHREC to get ideas about what to run with a general is "netdecking" and people still cry about netdecking even in competitive formats in 2018 I can see why someone would be worried. I'm glad everyone at my LGS has gotten over that cause we all go to Grand Prixs and Opens together for Modern and Standard and playing shitbrews at a Grand Prix is retarded especially in teams. I wont team up with a shitbrewer.

>Prove me wrong?
