Depravity edition.
Has your runner ever used cosmetic modifications, anywhere from moderate to extreme, simply for fun, expression or relaxation?

Neoteny?

First for Magicrun

If you have used that for fun, then tell us a story.

Neotenous girls can't be anything but fun.

Had a character that turned into a troll during the first goblinization scare. He spent all his nuyen getting a full cyberlimb conversion so he could look like the human he used to be. He had everyone fooled for a long time.
Massive crippling psychological issues though. However his retirement followed a redeption arc where he came to terms with himself and left the shadows to protect a barrens community from Humanis.
Completely sub-optimal build, but those tend to be the most memorable.

He used to think about getting some all the time, when he was broke. Now that he actually has the money to, he can't really bring himself to do it. Partly for the essence and partly because he's actually started to like being a freak, now that he has a source of income and social circle that doesn't care what he looks like.

one of my players wanted something installed into his nose so he could exhale steam through his nose and mouth in order to show other people that he's angry
I gave him a +1 to intimidation limits

the other guy wanted a fancy tattoo on his dick and somehow it was extremely important to him
I made his Doc roll for success
he failed and rolled a glitch and his dick got mangled

I need some short story recommendations about elite agents. The corporate hitmen, those who escort CEOs, assassinate (kidnap) researchers, that sort. Like New Rose Hotel, but more high life.

Is it viable to make a PC into an owner of some secret back alley cyberware clinic or at least his own shop ? Just enough to be able to tinker on stuff and perhaps install some stuff on your teammates with a small cost cut.

The skills to perform the operations? Yes. The gear for a clinic? No.

Better write "works (part-)time in a street doc's clinic operated by the mob (or whatever)" in your character's backstory and contacts.

Please don't lie to people.
There's rules for running a shop, at least in 3e when I checked. You actually buy the supplies needed.
The greatest barrier for player-run clinics is that some GMs forget economics and assume the PC will have to buy everything with their own money (no - you enter contracts with corps, business initiatives and prospective customers to raise earmarked funds, and pay back the initial investment with the profits).
You can have the skills. You can have the shop equipment (someone check for me if it's in CGLrun). You can take Day Job to represent actually profiting from it.
It's no problem unless your GM likes putting holes in people's ideas.

Commercial Lifestyle, Day Job, and a Cybertech/Medical Facility. YMMV on how much your GM lets you actually use this.

>Shadowrun General
>Posts a Cyberpunk 2020 pic

Fuck off, closet pedo.

You can take the "Day Job" quality to represent being busy (and make some dosh on the side), sure. Now let me get the obvious out of the way and ask: "Why would the character run if he has a lucrative day job?"

Commercial Lifestyle.
Workshop/Facility gear purchase (depending on extent of surgery)
First Aid/Medicine/Cybertechnology skills.
Day Job quality.
Also, maybe Friends in High Places/Black Market Pipeline in order to justify getting needed items on the cheap.

Meh... There's more to a clinic than a mere storefront.

yea, you need a hacksaw and a soldering iron.

Don't forget questionable medicine being tested on unknowing proles!

and pidgeons
don't forget the pidgeons

Jokes aside, the whole "Day Job"/"Comercial Lifestyle" thing falls apart the moment you consider something else than operating a burger joint or Kwik-E-Mart.

A clinic would have way higher operating costs but a trained surgeon would also make way more money, even illegaly.

>CGL rules fall apart in most circumstances, news at 11

If you try to go commercial you work out the details with your GM. We just gave the basics.

You'll also need high etiquette/edge or you aren't going to make any money. Commercial lifestyle states that you'll need around 8 hits on your check to make any money at all. That's 32 dice. Good luck consistently breaking even if you aren't an AI pornomachine.

Assisted test?

Granted, rules for assisted test are bit of a clusterfuck, but hey, CGL.

I know, I know...

Yeah, assisted tests, direct, edge... Going commercial isn't easy, and your team needs to be willing to assist you.
Or maybe you could make a conjuror and spam spirits to be your staff. I'd have to check the rules but you could probably come up with a combo of spirits/qualities that will allow you to run a profitable business all by yourself.
Drones wouldn't work, unless at some point in the future CGL decides you can install social autosofts and drones get edge.

Voodoo Magician long-term binding Task Spirits with the correct skills into manikins could work.

Lolis being a mixture of prepubescent and adolescent traits comes as a surprise to you?

>Lolis being a mixture of prepubescent and adolescent traits comes as a surprise to you?
not him, but yeah?
In my definition it is a prepubescent child, not adolescent

Then you're wrong. Lolis typically have some adult traits, such as the aforementioned mons pubis, as well as wide hips and round butts which are very rarely found in real kids.

T. Consumed a lot of loli hentai in my time.

To get any kind of discussion.
NEW TOPIC
What are some of the ways that your characters have died (or came close enough that you had to burn Edge)?
What were your favorite deaths?
Which ones are your most memorable?

They're made for sick fucks to jerk off too, so they can't look 100% like real kids because real kids aren't hot.

I NEVER DIE.
... except for inside... I die inside all the time.

im running my first shadowrun game tomorrow any last minute tips?

Everything is ultimately a dice pool. So for NPCs just wing it and don't worry about doing all the math every time someone does something.

1/2

2/2

Man, this thread is deader than Big D
What's the reason?

I'unno
I could talk about my campaign but I'm a bad GM so that's probably boring

Talk about it
it's not like there's any important conversation you're disturbing here
and we may give you tips

I'm currently GMing this instant, but this session will be shorter than usual so I'll get back afterwards

The oni in our group has gone under a ton of cosmetic surgery to the point where she was just a cute blue Japanese girl.

I hope she also comes with that p-fix from London Falling of the karate-master schoolgirl who thought everyone was a tentacle beast.

Sadly no. She was a failed model and idol contestant and now lives in the back of her Chevy station wagon, so now she just goes around in tattered high fashion.

Shame. Turns out I was wrong, it wasn't a karate master.

Well now I want to make a character with a hentai obsession for that time that I can finally play a character thanks for that user.

>start writing campaign
>realize half way through it's just Max Payne 3 verbatum

It doesn't help that one of the players wanted to be a gunslinger adept.

You say it like that's a bad thing.

It was only by the time the organ harvesting was being written that it clicked.

Is dieing even common in this game? It feels like with Edge, you can almost always get out alive.

Yes and no. If you go full edgelord, you can survive up to 8 'deaths', but none of them come without consequences. You also can't get more, because spending the karma required means that you're falling behind your team in tougher and tougher runs, and dying more often.

And that's assuming you don't just have a bad run and take a full burst of autofire to the face 2/3 times a run, which definitely happens.

Yeah tell us the plot user so we can make fun of it and point out plot holes. I'm curious what other people do for plot since mine tend to be seriously convoluted.

wtf am I reading here user?

One of the London Falling adventures has you looking for a courier who got touched up. It glitched his simmodule and is now randomly shuffling his personality among six others from his simsense library, of which he's a huge fan. He walked into a pub at one point and annihilated fucking everyone by trying to preserve his SWEET VIRGIN BODY when someone made him go full schoolgirl.

You think YOURS are convoluted? In my campaign, the PCs are all reanimated corpses stuffed with fragments of a dead godlike AI that can via horrible Aztechnology shenanigans and the weird obsessed project lead's love use magic.

I'm breaking every rule of the setting and going full retard, and I'm loving it.

My fat neckbeard decker took one for the team and got caught on camera during a run to save their asses and the run. His stupid face was all over the news combined with fat bounty on his head. So he needed a little makeover and made the team pay for it. Pic related.

...

Stupid concept of the moment; summoner character that will/can only summon the most powerful spirits they can (ie MAG*2). I kind of feel like it needs a negative quality called Tiger By The Tail to give it some mechanical oomf. Thoughts?

What are some good shadowrun novels? My only experience with the series is Hong Kong

Worlds Without End is a much more 'personal' novel. It's also part 3/3, but the others aren't SR novels.

Nosferatu is okay. SR novels are pretty fucking weird, as a general rule.

Yeah well, my campaign revolves around an German nanites from the moon that worship a godlike AI who is out to destroy Ares. But yeah thats kinda crazy man.

Pick one and if you don't like it, try the next one. It's really hit or miss. I will not recommend anything because I'll only trigger someone's autism and completely derail this thread into a retarded circlejerk.

Wait, they're German and also from the moon?

Haven't you *seen* Iron Sky?

Both. My campaign stories are based on player character's PC's. One of them had a German SURGE from the moon. I went with the only logical way to incorporate that into a San Francisco game.

I feel that doesnt work well since Mag*2 will kill most mages outright if not severely hurt them.

>summoner character that will/can only summon the most powerful spirits they can (ie MAG*2)

>F12 spirit
>12 dice =~ 4 hits average
>average drain = 4 hits x 2 = 8 physical

>binding is F x 2 dice = 24
>24 dice =~ 8 hits average
>average binding drain = 8 hits x 2 = 16 physical

He will die painfully, especially if he attempts binding

If you haven't already read it, 2D Storytime.
It started out as just a fun little story, but 400 pages later, his writing had improved drastically, and it reads like a light novel.

Had a mage who fashioned a Sustaining Foci for the Euphoria spell. She put the thing on a buttplug (because of course she did). After the street sammy found her unconscious for the second time she was made to wear a biomonitor and IV drip line for safety.

There is no shame in copying things. Steal. Steal often. Steal shamelessly. Just make sure to steal good stuff.

The only thing worse than a player with his eyes glued to his phone is a GM with his eyes glued to a phone.

2D's storytime really isn't that good.

look, I've listened to some SCHLOCK in my search for shadowrun.

I think I'm not wrong in assuming I'm asking on the behalf of many people if I ask for a detailed storytime.
The thing is, you never hear about these things aside from occasional That GM boogeyman stories or the loliposter, so I don't think anyone's heard how it would actually unfold in practice.

So anons want stories? Because I have some. I can't do it right now, but I could at some point. Is there interest?

It could be that bank infil lifted verbatim from Dr Who, instead.

youtube.com/watch?v=2XPhPsf7hnI

>Evo HTR Drug Bust

There is always interest.
Remember that about Veeky Forums.

Come to mention it, I'm a bit curious too. I'm mostly interested in hearing how the table reacted in and out of character. You hear plenty of stories of players going full-magical-realm, but it's not often that you find a story of a character being creepy solely as a result of good role-playing.

Where can I find info about season mission 7 rewards? I don't have contact with my previous GM, and I have to recreate my character.

My party has a Decker contact, turned out she was a Neotony elf who spends her time hacking and livestreaming. They found this out when she got drunk one night and boinked a mediastar and tried blackmailing him. They were hired to find her and get rid of the evidence.

The books? I've got them if you just want a rundown of the pdf rewards.

Actually, here. Easier to just do it this way. Left to right, 1,2,3 top, 4, 5, 6 bottom.

And this is how Neoteny is meant to be used.
The reaction of incensed white-bread horror you get here is just superimposing this society onto Shadowrun.
Meanwhile, in the Sixth World, it's just one more cruel whim of the universe that you use in what ways you can, because there's absolutely nothing in the Sixth World that can't be bought and sold.
No one's really up to take the stand against it anymore, either - hell, most people who find it objectionable in the Sixth World probably heard their news from a biosculpted-to-hell news anchor who looks like you mixed a Fox News caster with everything the loliposter usually posts, and want to fuck her as well.
Megacorps sell everything people want, and they're trying to make society okay with buying it. The taboo against pedophilia might only exist in the case of actual children in the Sixth World, or might only remain among activists.

It is one the few taboos that actually remains, along with necrophilia and (as surprising as it might sound) aldutery.

However, the exact definition of what count as a child has evolved and varies from place to place and metaspecies to metaspecies.

And I figure that in most places, what counts as a child is someone who's an actual chronological child, not someone with Neoteny or someone who sprang for an interesting biosculpt.
Of course, the middle class probably wouldn't extend the same privilege to SINless children who need the money, and would be quick to use the excuse of "I didn't know they were a real kid, what with that SURGE stuff".
Most taboos in the Sixth World are facades, much like cheap social-media charities in this world - the social structures that make speaking your mind make you look like a better person are still in place, but the corporations are doing everything in their power to make sure that the population doesn't care about anything else than consumption-fueled petty social posturing and the megacorp itself until they tell them what they should care about.

Core book 42, "Sex", final paragraph

I don't see why you're acting like you're contradicting me, or even proving me wrong.
It even says that the definition varies, which is the exact same thing as I was saying.
You don't have to get mad when the setting leaves you uncomfortable. Try telling the difference between fiction and reality once in a while.

>No one's really going to take the stand against it anymore
>The reaction of incensed white-bread horror you get here is just superimposing this society onto Shadowrun.

The vague paragraph we get about it makes it seem like roughly the same sexual mores as today when it comes to kids. But people can interpret this as they like; it's quite vague. I'd still have sixth-worlders react with similar revulsion to lust for Not!Kids as with actual kids.

I see it kinda like the difference between torturing a mouse in your basement and torturing a civilian there. The latter can get you put in solitary the rest of your life, the former won't have such extreme consequences but still triggers great revulsion when exposed and indicates that the perpetrator is quite disturbed.

Except what counts as a "child" is said to vary, which is different from current US laws and norms where they barely do.
Anyway, if people still felt that Neoteny sufferers and people who had themselves biosculpted into kids are still as unassailable as real kids, some scammers are going to have a field day and it'll change.

And let's remember that CGL content regarding in-universe norms is notoriously revisionist, going out of its way to remind people that the Sixth World didn't change in any ways that could make them uncomfortable, even if FASA editions had implications to the contrary or straight-out said it did.

Actually, what would you say to a character who used to be a criminal lawyer, but was burned in a case involving a child culprit (a rich kid killing a SINless kid from town, for example) and chose to get back at the legal system the way they got him?
As a kid, you can act how you want and you still won't be the victim. You have an unassailable defense against anyone who uses physical force against you, your body can get the best-protected officials in prison and you can still use the Matrix to gain adult respect.
Would you permit a character like this played by someone who doesn't send up any howling alarms, and how would you say someone who uses a childlike body to get away with public crimes would be treated by the corps, the cops and the civilian population?

not one of the guys arguing:
>in a case involving a child culprit (a rich kid killing a SINless kid from town, for example)
Why would there even be a case? It's a SINless, who cares about what happens to them?
>chose to get back at the legal system the way they got him?
I'd ask him how exactly he wants to become childlike.
>You have an unassailable defense against anyone who uses physical force against you
Is he still a SINner? Does he have a FakeSIN at least? Because just like in his backstory, nobody cares what happens with the SINless, no matter the age.
>Would you permit a character like this played by someone who doesn't send up any howling alarms
If by that you mean "Someone I can be sure of, that they play the characters not just to get their rockers off, but also (even mainly) to tell a story about the world? Yes
>who uses a childlike body to get away with public crimes would be treated by the corps, the cops and the civilian population?
If you are seen as a child, then you are going to be involuntarily treated like a child. So while you get a lesser punishment (as in less or no time in prison), it's still a punishment. If you have "parents" then they will be the ones punished for you. If you don't, you will be put under control of the state/governing body.
If you are seen as an adult with childlike body, it varies. Some will see you as mentally unfit/immature. Some will treat you with disgust. Some will treat you with anger. Using childlike innocence to evade the law is something I think a lot of people will have strong negative reactions to.
