D&D ain't flawless, it's a work in progress.
The rules got dents and they've got quirks, but it's the GM that makes them work, yeah.
D&D ain't flawless, it's a work in progress
A good chef can also make garbage edible, but I;d still rather, you know, not be eating garbage.
All D20 systems are shit.
it's been months. your shitposting is stale. your 'pet' systems suck and won't garner any attention. Give it a break and stop trying to tell people they're having badwrongfun
Why would I play D&D if:
-I have Ryuutama or Fantasycraft for fantasy adventures
-I have REIGN for political intrigue (and ORE for just about everything)
-I have GURPS for autism
-I have a group that would rather play any of aforementioned systems rather than D&D
"Games are never finished, they are only released"
-Sun Tzu
Honestly that last one is the only reason I've ever played DnD. I DON'T have a group that's willing to give ANYTHING else a fair chance, so I'm stuck in D20 Hell. It fucking sucks.
You would prefer we use a different game? A "better" game?
>Fantasycraft
>implying it's any better than 3.PF or 4e where it counts
Yeah, because twelve billion pluses is exactly the kind of thing I want to keep track of.
It's not hard or time consuming if you aren't handicapped.
You can run a pretty baller game of D&D with Mutants and Masterminds, amigo. Or Savage Worlds if you want a more pulp-ish flair.
Why are you replying to our resident autistic troll?
Don't conflate the d20 System with D&D, you philistine.
>ugly box art
>puke green """""dragon"""""
>why the long face ...elf?
>some jackass with a wooden shield aiming far left of his intended target
>they already have the loot
>water is badly drawn
>bitch is using a candle like she thinks shes hot shit
>lighting is all kinds of wrong
>copypasted pillars
>basic bitch set
>boxart doesn match the basic module false advertisement
>original fantasy rpg is false advertisement
>does not feature a barbarian
fuck this game,
Or I can run it with D&D, which everyone knows already so I don't need to waste time learning a new system.
>i dont like thing
>get a sugest
>NO! I LOVE THING TOO MUCH!
imagine being at computers
Then why the fuck are you asking for alternatives?
I never said I don't like D&D. I'm just tired of people saying "D&D is crap" while never suggesting any decent alternatives, hence my "then name the system" post.
Personally of the systems I've become familiar with (D&D 2e, 3e, and 5e; both flavors of World of Darkness, Modiphius' 2d20 for Star Trek Adventures), I most prefer the 5e D&D system, for both its ease of use, its problems being minor at best rather than system-breaking, and most importantly because of its ubiquity: I can always, easily, find players or games of it.
blah blah blah kys my dude if u dont like it dont read it leave the forum
Because the Veeky Forums complaints department meme is a waste of a post if someone is just going to shit on D&D and not actually suggest and describe alternatives.
Imagine if I went into every Warhammer thread saying "Warhammer sucks". What would that be other than a needless argument starter?
Hourly reminder that all complaints about D&D boil down to two statements:
1) D&D is unable to accurately run the kind of campaign that I want to run.
2) D&D being the most popular RPG has made it difficult to find people who want to try my system.
As and Demonstrate, if you have a group that plays something else, you've got little to complain about.
Anyway, use OSR to ween players of of 5e, and slowly transition them to other systems.
lol no u
Deep
OP, you are looking for Dungeon World. It's a game that solves all the flaws of D&D, with a fast, mechanically simple powerful system with lots of options for both roleplaying and combat. Everything is organized under the core mechanic, which is more interesting than the boring, trite binary pass-fail of D&D. Dungeon World takes the best parts of D&D and flushes away outdated mechanics like critical hits and hp bloat. An elder dragon only has 16 hp, but is a far more engaging fight than anything in D&D. "It's my turn? Ok I hit the dragon again. 7 damage".... who even would want to play that? That's boring. That's stupid. That's babby 3.5 shit. Dungeon World allows your combat to be as flexible as your imagination. In one session of Dungeon World that I played, my fighter grabbed a vampire in a bear hug and wrestled him out the window into the castle moat. That is real roleplaying. You can't get that with D&D. With Dungeon World, you can.
I will shill this system as hard as it takes, but Mythras. Always Mythras, aka RuneQuest 6th.
Pros:
>It runs nearly anything, albeit with a more gritty, realistic overtone. It even has M-Space if you wanted to run a pure Sci-Fi game.
>It's BRP-based, and the sheer number of games that utilize the system gives it great support for most game mechanics.
>It's got the Free Firearms supplement, which will let you stat most guns with sufficient autism to satisfy your /k/omrade.
>Combat is dynamic and deadly. Maneuvers and Combat Actions give Martial combatants the ability to be strategic and give them the variety to compete with Martials. It also has locational damage and hit points. It's about the closest you can get to Dark Souls combat at this point without hacking a kung-fu system.
Cons:
>Apparently being d100/BRP is a reason to hate a game?
>It's more technical and crunchy than what the current gaming market is looking for, which means more prep time for the GM, and more time to learn the system than players might be used to.
Ooh, haven't seen this iteration. Just don't fuck it up by leading into the Barbarian wrestling Vampire pasta, and I'll keep you going. Here, let me help:
Dungeon World sucks ass. It tries too hard to pigeonhole Dungeon-delving into the loose freeform system of PBTA. It's not the worst PBTA game by any means, but it sure as he'll doesn't do what it's supposed to.
Don't bother, you'll just get . D&Drones are fucking brain damaged.
Wrong.
See THIS is actually a positive contribution to a thread recommending something other than D&D. Why can't more people make posts like this?
I mean, I'm still going to keep playing D&D because I don't feel like investing the time or effort to both learn a new system, AND convince my friends to learn a new system, for high fantasy adventures when we already know D&D. We tend to only learn a new system when we're radically switching genres (hence why I know World of Darkness and 2d20).
Still, I wouldn't leap down the throats of people who dislike the d20 System so much if more posts were made like this one.
>why can't more people post like this?
> I'm still going to keep playing D&D because I don't feel like investing the time or effort to both learn a new system, AND convince my friends to learn a new system, for high fantasy adventures when we already know D&D.
Because that attitude means people like never get the games they want to actually play/run.
Which kinda sucks.
That's no excuse to stop trying.
Fantasycraft is a really solid system with so many great ideas put into it, but it's editing is awful.
>D&D 2e, 3e, and 5e
Typical - doesn't like 4e and behaves like retarded grognard.
And when your trying gets you nowhere and you'r tired of trying and are up against a wall you shitpost and vent on Veeky Forums
Also: it's kind hypocritical to tell people to keep trying and to never give up when in the hypothetical situation of him proposing the game to you, you'd not be willing to meet him half way on it.
Perhaps
Wow, I thought you were ordinary retarded, but it turns out you're super retarded.
Put on a trip already so people can filter your dumb ass.
>Because the Veeky Forums complaints department meme is a waste of a post
Ta da.
Now, stop pretending it's ever posted by anyone who isn't a butthurt contrarian, because everyone who isn't a meme spamming faggot would just recommend a system without calling attention to the fact that they get upset at the mere mention of D&D.
That's a count down dice for card games.
It's everyone at the table that makes it work. Every game can fall into this same argument. D&D is just the game everyone is, for better or worse, stuck with. Getting players to try new game systems is like pulling teeth, and D&D will always have it's built out settings to use making it the easy option.
If you that a game is interesting or boring or the span of decades has more to do with the creativity of your group than the game. Plenty of awful game system just die, not every edition of D&D is immune to this. What more important is that everyone stat down and understands the combination of Book + House rules so you don't end up with needless rules citations or people asking how to roll for attack at the table.
That is exactly an excuse to stop trying you immensely stupid fuck. Why bother suggesting a system and listing out all its pros and cons when you won't fucking listen because "muh dee an dee tho."
Wow, how fucking upset you must be that another person slipped through your contrarian claws.
Looks like your attempts to pretend you're looking out for their best interests are just not working when it's clear the only reason you're offering advice is that you're upset about D&D's continued popularity.
But, please, go on acting like you've got some high ground to stand on.
Well lookit that, you caught me. Way to go. Tell mommy you deserve a gold star for thwarting the mean ol' anti-D&D trolls. Have yourself a juicebox and a nap while you're at it, because you've earned it partner!
Nice reply. Really makes it look like you're still banking on anyone being fooled this late in the game.
But, please, don't let me keep you. You probably need to go back to constantly refreshing this board and Ctrl-F'ing for any D&D threads so you can shitpost in them.
Perhaps the same could be said of all systems!
As opposed to constantly refreshing so I can valiantly defend the sanctity of a major corporate product from any of those mean nasty trolls.
...
I've played so many games with shitty editing that FC's looks pretty damn good by comparison.
Whoo boy, don't go out of your way to show just how upset you are about D&D's continued popularity. Everyone already knows you are one sad sack of excrement to be so bitter about a game.
Yep, that's me. Super ultra bitter. You got me again, you champion of the internet you. That's another gold star! Keep at it, you're on a roll!
As opposed to being butthurt over an indie game for requiring you to keep track of numbers to a lesser degree than the game you keep masturbating to already does?
ICWUDT
Nice left field strawman. Don't get caught up in getting upset about D&D to the point where you start conflating things.
I love small publisher games. I play them more often than I end up playing D&D.
No reason to be upset about D&D's popularity though.
...
>Yep, that's me. Super ultra bitter.
Judging how you're so desperate to pretend you're not, you genuinely think that someone might be fooled even though you know you're fighting an uphill battle. That's kind of sad.
That was someone else, and it's fine for them to not like Fantasycraft because they don't find it as intuitive as other systems.
No one is going to die if they do.
Yeah, D&D's not flawless, It's a work in progress.
So tell me what flaws your game's got too.
'Cause I still like what's flawed about yours.
Wowee, you're just a master of observation, aren't you? You're up to three gold stars now! Mommy is going to be so proud of you, yes she is! You keep showing those trolls, champ!
Jesus, how autistic and butthurt can you be?
DnD is bottom barrel stuff.
I'd honestly try 3-4 different systems for a setting/campaign before considering DnD.
For 30 years of feedback and improvement, it's pretty terrible.
As autistic and butthurt as a D&Drone gets when anyone says an ouchie mean bad thing about their favorite system.
That is completely false.
D&D isn't even my favorite system. But, the difference between you and me is that when I hear about people preferring a system that isn't my favorite, I don't get bitter and fly into an autism fueled campaign to try and convince the world to stop playing it.
Now, go on, get your last word in. I really didn't mean to hold you up from shitposting in every other thread where people dare to reveal that they might prefer D&D over whatever game you've got a stake in.
