/SWG/ - Imperial Weapons Research Edition

I was always surprised none of these ever turned up on Byss during Dark Empire.

But then again, there were far more dangerous things operating on Byss at the time...

What part of oldcanon are you waiting to readded to nucanon?

Why is Star Wars Legion look so underwhelming?

I mean yeah its just the first wave + core set no shenanigans, no army worth playing yet but compared to Warhammer it doesnt feel like it can compete. I understand that FFG wants the game to be easily understood and for everyone.. but it doesnt give enough flexibility and dynamic to the game when it is based on upgrades and such.

Armada and X-wing has some great game mechanics and also the battles are based in space. But looking at many of the Legions Lets play on YouTube the army build looks boring and the play area is kind of small with just 6 turns.. Am i missing something?

Compared to other war games, this one felt like an understatement.

when did dark troopers become robots? I remember them being soldiers artificially imbued with the force through cybernetics. there were big crystals in the dark trooper labs that you had to destroy in....i think jedi knight 2? one of the older games iirc.

Mark 1 darktroopers are robots. The rest are suits/cybernetics.

>"I Am a Real Corellian" Intensifies

Only the Phase Zero (classic Battlefront) DTs were cyborgs. All the other DT phases (including the Dark Forces 1 originals) were battle droids, barring a few that were built as power armor.

None of it as they just bastardize it and lower its quality in my eyes.

They have all this design space they could be using and the best they can do with most of it is copy parts of Legends to create something that is about as interesting as the plot of the latest Metal Gear game.

It's like they have no creative vision.

> when did dark troopers become robots?

Well the Phase I was always a robot, as was the Phase II. The Phase III can be a droid or a set of armor, much like the Viper Droids the Rebels would attack the Emperor's Citadel on Byss, which were both Droids and warmachines that could be operated.

>We Need to Build Dark Troopers and make the Rebellion Pay for It
>Make the Empire Great Again

Comparing what qualities of Legion to Warhammer?

I mean, it's not like Warhammer isn't based on upgrades. Figuring out how you want to kit out your troops isn't exactly a new concept.

>CYBERNETICS, SON

I had the opposite reaction. I thought the rules looked inane and overly gamey, but went in anyway because fuck everything else. Now after watching some videos I'm actually looking forward to playing it. Still should have been 15mm Clone Wars though.

We need a 6mm SW wargame

>Why is Star Wars Legion look so underwhelming?
Because there's no option to play a Tomb Kings Sith army.

Who else here /writefag/?

What are your projects? Both previous and current. Whether it be something for a campaign or just short fiction.

My last story was about a TIE pilot who was shot down over a world in The Colonies during a botched rescue mission. About 6 weeks after Endor. Said planet is currently in the process of going full Day of the Rope on any Imperial they can find.

Pic somewhat related.

hey anons,
i was trying to have a nostalgic SW miniatures battle royale but my maps are at my mothers house in a galaxy far far away...

by any chance, is there any online version (good quality) of a death star battle map? other maps are welcome

thxx

Who is going to sprinkle custom units into their army? The Rebels get male squad leaders but I wanted one male and one female, so I'm going to see how this mini works with them. The scale is off by about 2mm so I might just slap another 2mm thick disc of MDF on the bottom. She's from the Deadzone Rebs faction. Plenty of aliens in there too.
manticgames.com/ImageCache/Products/5122.1.1000.1000.FFFFFF.0.jpeg
Fair warning for anyone interested in doing the same. Mantics plastic miniatures are fucking dreadful, they will rarely ever look half as good as they do in the pictures.

WIP btw.

it would take forever to print user

There was a tile book that came out and you can print off tile blocks if that works

howlrunner is bae

yeah that might work.

I worked at a printing and editorial company so it wouldnt be a issue if i managed to find a HD pdf or something.... im going to improviseor just wait until hype is over.

i was a nice game, too bad a never really knew minis community

my man with the SWM map, you ever play the bespin map?

My LGS used to this game type where it was 100 points of models, two uniques max. Victory points based on damage done so you had to dive in, if you were the last one standing you gained VP based on remaining hit points. At least 6 players a round. Game was incredible.

Damn I miss the old days of Wizards of the Coast Star Wars games

>more like howlSTUNNER, amirite?

You nerds would probably know, where do some of the games of Star Wars fall into canon if at all? Are they all just non-canon now that the Mouse has control of it all or was it never canon to begin with?

EVerything produced since 2014’s buyout with the exception of TOR content is canon.

Unless they say it isn't. Like the one mobile game with Legends characters.

>Like the one mobile game with Legends characters.
>Galaxy of Heroes
>mfw every time the enemy team has Nihilus in the lead + Dooku

I'm a dumbass and posted this in the ded thread.

I'm getting an HWK and a Scurgg in preparation for getting a Most Wanted pack, and I'm debating getting a third ship.

Should I get a Z-95 or a Y-Wing to keep the Reb/Scum crossover going, or get a cheap Imperial ship so I can run something that isn't my Firespray and three TIEs?

I'll probably mainly play Scum but I want a fair spread of stuff for guest players/variety.

I currently have a B-Wing, the OT core set, HotR, a Firespray, and a third TIE.

Please to giving advice.

It's only slightly smaller than the size of a warhammer board, and games of 40k can take less than 6 turns these days.

>What are your projects?
I run (ran, its been on hiatus for months) a Star Wars quest on akun.

Get the tie SF, its a meta ship but it helps making your imperial list not looking like it could end in 4 turns.

You're thinking of the Shadowtrooper, not the Dark Trooper. The crystals were charged in the Valley of the Jedi, giving them Force abilities in much the same way Kyle recovered his.

yooo, you right. Thanks for the clarification.

Currently working on that Fel Imperial "historical" fic. Trying to figure out how to write a planetary invasion of a gas giant's floating cities and tibanna refineries without just ripping off Guns of Tanith.

What part are you hung up on? Reasons for the invasion or how they actually go about doing it?

Backdraft does look good. I was kind of thinking about the Inquisitor TIE, the Advanced or even just an Interceptor. I know the Advanced is only good if you have a card that comes with the Raider though.

I'm mainly playing with my mate and we both suck right now, so meta isn't a concern so much as a breadth of options is. Do any of the other TIEs come with "essential" upgrades like how the A-Wing has Push the Limit?

How the invasion is supposed to go. Initial draft is:
>Little to no heavy armor due to extremely close quarters
>Floating cities are domed with few external landing pads, thus preventing mass paratrooper drop
>Transports have to weather a storm of AA to reach landing pads while TIE escorts hold off enemy fighters and run SEAD
>Fierce urban combat as stormtroopers fight One Sith forces for control of tibanna mills
>Small warships (corvettes, frigates, troop transports etc.) temporarily assigned to "surface" operations to act as mobile command centers and staging areas for the ground forces
Unfortunately, it's near-identical to the Phantine campaign in Gaunt's Ghosts, so I'm trying to see what I can do to differentiate it.

Its about the foundation of the Old Republic, kind of OC canon, blending what I like about Legends and nucanon while doing my own thing.

Maybe have an internal feud between the invaders (rival Moffs? I don't know enough about the setting to know what the Fel Empire is) regarding the cost (human and financial) of taking the cities intact vs just blowing them to hell and installing their own facilities. Assuming these cities are like Bespin and exist mainly for gas mining.

Star Wars has a fine tradition of ripping off other media though!

I've had a bunch of ideas that I'd like to try writing, but I have trouble focusing on some projects. But I've been having depression issues lately, so I've been considering writing again as a way to distract myself from negative thoughts. Some ideas:

>First and foremost, I've been developing a sector for use in a FFGRPG campaign set around 14 ABY, but I've made a GM mistake in falling in love with the world I've created, so I was thinking about writing a story set in that sector and time period that is sort of "my" story, and then when I run the campaign, that will be the players' story. Would focus on privateers chartering a Jedi or two from Luke's order to said sector, which has been largely ignored by the galaxy since Palpatine's death, due to it not being seen as a priority territory; so the New Republic and Imperial warlords have mostly ignored it. Other major characters would include Sev'rance Tann, leader of a small CIS holdout, an ex-Inquisitor who has a small faction of former Imperials that are disinterested in the civil war, and a version of Tallie set in Legends.

>Another idea, spun out of my love of X-Wing, is a story about Countess Ryad and her TIE Defender squadron after Endor. Might tie (ha) in some Empire of the Hand stuff because, it is big on Thrawn wank, I do think it had some untapped potential.

I think doing something with General Kota and Juno Eclipse, without the fuckiness of the TFU story, could be fun as well. They could work with either above story, however.

Paratroopers with grav boots dropping on top the dome with tunneling machines/ space blowtorches?

Speaking of which, I rolled up characters with my players last night for a EotE game I'm DMing. No one's played a Star Wars RPG before and only one of them has played an RPG before. Right now I've got a Bothan scholar, a Gungan DJ (performer), a Chiss politico based on Angela Merkel, and a Trandoshan big game hunter. I was going to run the beyond the rim adventure, but that isn't feeling very suitable now. I'm thinking maybe political intrigue, but the trandoshan is a bit of a fish out of water. Any ideas user?

For Republic Commando, the game's storyline isn't canon, but at least some of the characters are, since they appeared in the Clone Wars series.

Imperial vets or aces has good cards.

War scenes science fiction are often ripping off some major battle fought in IRL as that description in sounds alot like some naval landing operations that happened in WW2. I know Abnet was big on WW2 history so I wouldn't be suprised if this was the case.

Imperial vets or aces has good cards.

>tfw a friend of yours lets slip in conversation that they thought TLJ was a good movie
Just the fucking mention of the title launched me from 0 to 60 in rage. Christ, my hatred of what Disjew and Kathy have done to this franchise is bad for my blood pressure.

What about parking a star destroyer beside one of these things and have a massive napoleonic style
boarding action?

Seek help

Have some sort of transports come up beneath and ram into the stations?

There there, user. Just have a cup of tea and come back into the sweet ignorance of Legends.

Give these men Moffships. I love crazy shit like this.

That's also going on the drawing board. The Fel Empire is the reasonable and benevolent successor to Legends' Galactic Empire and Imperial Remnant. The write that I'm faggoting is set shortly after the Legacy comics' big war (circa 138, 139 years after ANH), so the FE is fresh from a bloody civil war against Sith usurpers and rebel moffs and itching to commence the reconquista. That issue does make sense for the Fel Empire to have, given their depleted and potentially war-weary forces at that point in time.

Try harder next time

Stop! I can only get so erect!

...

Hmmm. With a post Legacy war scenario, it might be too difficult to attempt a full-scale assault. The vibroblade may be more suiting than the blaster.

I'd sneak in or hack a few astromech/protocol droids to gain access to the platforms repuslorlift systems.

Park a star destroyer in low orbit and start overloading each unit one by one until they either surrender or plummet into the atmosphere. Could also pull some "shield penetrating turbolaser" type tricks a la Thrawn as well.

Hell, post Rogue One you can apparently just put a Star Destroyer *in atmosphere*

Ruthless but effective. Was Roan Fel's successor the type of person who would green-light such things? I'm afraid I can't remember much about her (?) personality.

Is it true that the music in the "Padme's Ruminations" scene sounds like a piece of score from Gladiator (2000)?
I haven't seen Gladiator in forever but someone just told me that.

Anybody got a pdf of the new Dawn of Rebellion sourcebook yet?

How can he be fixed in Episode 9?

Why does he need to be? He fits the role of a political appointment rather than a skilled general. I mean, the movies actively say that about him, that he's earned his position by being fanatical.

Friendly reminder that The Phantom Menace is a really good movie and not an (interesting) mess like the other two prequels.
IMO it goes TPM>AotC>RotS.
Where for me TPM is easily on ANH's level, AotC is about on par with RotJ, and RotS, while having some of the best moments in the series, is just straight up unfinished.

>the movies actively say that about him

The visual guide also states that his sole experience in anything military comes from simulations and that he never had any combat experience commanding (or indeed doing anything else) outside of said simulations.

Which makes a lot of sense. Somehow I think the Koyobashi Maru wasn't on the Imperial Navy simulator requirements so he's very bad at dealing with situations that end up outside of what he's expecting them to go.

>so he's very bad at dealing with situations that end up outside of what he's expecting them to go.

And ultimately probably not much of a threat, just like Kylo.

Dooku doesn't become a Sith, but still leads a separatist faction composed of the "true believers" like Mina Bonteri rather than the corporate types. Meanwhile, Palpatine looks for a new apprentice to replace Maul until he can groom Anakin and for a way to manipulate Dooku to start the war he needs.

Personally, no. He's a glass jaw on the otherwise scary First Order. The FO has a great baseline but it's leadership is letting it down due to inexperience, ego or daddy issues that could shame a primarch.

The training and equipment might also be letting them down too.

I heard the First Order stormtrooper armor can't filter toxins and it seems a girl who grew up on a back water ball of sand with no military experience has better aim than their Storm Troopers and apparently their flight patterns with TIE Fighters are so bad the same girl can take out three in one shot.

They're TIE/LNs. Not Defenders, hell not even Interceptors, they're basic TIE Fighters. The Remnant in Legends stopped using them and preferred even fucking Preybirds over TIE/LNs. Of course recolored TIE/LNs are going to be terrible.

Supposedly the TIE Fighters in the new films are supposed to be improvements, featuring shields and what not.

That being said, their performance is hardly any better.

>it seems a girl who grew up on a back water ball of sand with no military experience has better aim than their Storm Troopers

Eh, not really. She manages to gun down a few of them when she gets the jump but I mean, it's star wars and she's a protagonist (And one established to have to have had to have fought her entire life, even if she lacks formal military experience).

Equipmentwise they seem to be doing pretty well...though they seem a little blunt. They are built to win a straight fight quite well.

They are also mentioned, in movie, to be not at their best in-atmosphere. They can do atmospheric flight but they are not very aerodynamic so they are at a disadvantage there.

Well, they were also in their worst possible situation. They are space fighters primarily, their atmospheric performance isn't great.

>She manages to gun down a few of them when she gets the jump but I mean,

I think I've seen a few where they saw her and fired first, but missed.

>They are space fighters primarily, their atmospheric performance isn't great.

And they say the First Order is an improvement.

Now that I think about it, could the FO TIEs serve as some kind of pirate modification in Legendsverse post-Endor?

Considering they've got the same shape as the ties before, I don't think they got worse in aerodynamics. Ties are generally not built for easy movement through the air.

And it never behooved them to correct this or create a fighter that does?

Most battles ties are involved in don't take place on the land. I mean, the Empire didn't exactly do that either.

Simple: He might be a Trandoshan, but he's the damn fanciest Trandoshan you've ever seen, and nobody will say otherwise when they see his suit. Just because he's a big game hunter racking up points with the Scorekeeper doesn't mean he's a savage, dammit.

So they're repeating all the errors of the old Empire them.

They work perfectly as a Warlord model, pirate is fine too.

I'm using Hasslefree's Raisa as a stand in for Vader and had plans to swap some Statuesque heads onto some stormtroopers.
I figure the Star Trek paint scheme, helmetless female squad leaders, and Disney princess Vader, I can win all my matches by giving my opponents aneurisms.

>preferred Preybirds

cmon now. This bunch of butt scratchers out in the boonies that couldn't make TIEs or get them from SFS tells themselves they moved on? They didn't have a line on TIEs, not they preferred some fuckup of a fighter they purchased from pirates.

Their weakest was a Preybird, they used Interceptors and Defenders. They didn't use TIE/LNs at all. Fucking Corellians in their nu Confederacy used TIE/LNs when they were scraping the barrel. They basically became the Z-95s of the post-Endor era.

They were still flying TIE fighters during the Vong war (not Pbirds), when Interceptors and Defenders start showing up more often. They went back to TIE Fighters as soon as Disra was done and they got peaced.

Interceptors and Defenders, yeah, not the regular TIE Fighter though. The Interceptor became the standard model, TIE Defender flown by elite.

When the Vong hit the Remnant, that's Bastion through to Yaga Minor and Esfandia, most of the starfighting is done by Imperial Remnant TIE Fighters. Defenders and Interceptors are sometimes mentioned but not during that campaign. It's not until Bilbringi, Dac, and Coruscant that you hear about Interceptors, Scimitars, and Defenders- but not- Fighters as the Imperial contribution/force.

It's interesting because earlier in the war at Ithor, and Ord Mantell the Remnant has Interceptors and Force Spike present instead.

Sign ups for Nationals opened. Anybody else going?

I'll be there for Armada, although I also signed up for Legion since why not.

Guess they had some still by that point, because when you get to LOTF, the TIE Fighters are used by the Corellians (and this fucking thing too, apparently) while the Remnant uses Defenders and Interceptors for the most part, along with some nu prototypes. Seems like the GA got the high end fighters though, Sienar and Incom, as Caedus flies something called a TIE Blur which is described as SFS's answer to the StealthX.

It requires a bit of speculating but after the P-G treaty they look like they get access to TIEs again via SFS. TIE Fighters are aboard important Star Destroyers, and at major planets (Bastion, Yaga Minor) so it's probable that even if the Remnant wanted Defenders and Interceptors, and start getting them, its Fighters that have to be the backbone. Then comes the YVW, then comes them getting a sidekick from the Vong, hey presto TIEs mostly lost in the fighting... reequip with Interceptors and Defenders?

So it's probably 28 aby, thanks to war and teaming up with the GA that the Remnant can turbo-switch over to Interceptors and Defenders. And it's not until 2GCW that Starhunters (their uprated indig Interceptors) are the standard hotness.

StarHunters are independent Remnant designs? not SFS? Shame we never got a pic of them and other stuff in LOTF, like the TIE Blur and the Eta-5.

Speaking of, I suspect the PelStars and TIE Predators might've been independent Fel Empire designs that were later outsourced to KDY and SFS to appease them when they took control of the Galaxy. Either that, or Kuat and Lianna rejoined the Empire during the Cold War period. Wouldn't surprise me, Kuat's always been Imperial-leaning.

Okay, it isn't said whether they are or aren't. In the book they aren't mentioned as SFS though, simply an evolution, and its within the wider context of the Remnant having these new toys they're bringing into the fighter (Turbulents also)

I am pretty bummed we got no TIE Blur, no ETA-5 too. There's the Owool which is nice.

And I think you might be right, P-G Treaty has the provision for planets to vote themselves into the Remnant or GA. Kuat and Lianna probably let a factory world of theirs do it.

>I see many arms surrounding you in a cold embrace
What did he mean by this?

Did you experience the launch of X-Wing or Armada?

Those games were pretty bare at launch, too.

>no TIE Blur
I sort of headcanon the Silencer as being a potential TIE Blur, it's even billed as having high-end stealth systems and is flown by an edgy Solo kid. Hell could the TIE Silencer actually be the alternate reality version of the Blur? Like say, the same a ship? Think the Trek mirrorverse and the Terrans having Starfleet ships.

The description of a TIE Blur in the books is that it's just a TIE Bomber on the outside painted all black... just another reason to throw LOTF into the fire. Starhunters might be the easiest Silencer fits though.
