Can I use other plastic primers or do I have to use GW?

I'm doing a Juggerlord for me WE. What do you guys think?

That looks fantastic, dude. Just clean up some of the grit on the crusher's collar and horn. Also, give that man a ludicrous green stuff topknot.

I think it'll look better once it's drilled and painted. I'll also eventually mix it with these miniatures to emphasise what they are.

There are definitely some craft-store available acrylic spray primers that work-- I believe Krylon was recommended to me. You probably don't want to go uber-cheap, but any decent acrylic spray should work the same way-- it's not like you're not mixing it with your main paints while wet.

>58255618

Haha! I've only painted a couple of minis from the core box. Couldn't find any local clubs willing to play anything that wasn't MTG. I've got the young survivor too but think I'll try and get a better whip for her.

Is the basic color for Blood Angels mephiston red? If yes which shade would fit with it?

Top tier conversion, I want to see more of this bruiser

agrax

>no helmet

reeee

looks good for real though man

What are you working on /wip/?
Ive just finished up some dropzone for this weekend.

12 Ork boyz, a space marine commander and some reaper bones stuff. But I'm waiting for my brush-on primer to get here because it's too cold for spraying outside, fucking Canada...

I've been looking for some different schemes and I found a photo of BA battkeforce box where they suggest using wild rider red and seraphim sephia.
Is it some older scheme?

Gonna finish off my Dark Eldar and get them up to 1500 points; then I either paint the remaining DEldar stuff I don't wanna do (Voidraven and Hellions mostly) and round it off to 2000, or I:

>Finish assembling and painting my Relictors
>Paint my 1000 point Ork Dred Mob
>Paint my Primaris Destroyers

The Primaris would be the most fun and easy to paint but ugh more Marines, the Orks would be fun and a change of pace, but I kind of want to wait for the Codex to drop before I settle on Death Skulls or Bad Moons for the colour scheme, and the Relictors I always dug as a Chapter but are the most work to do and least fun.

I've done some work detailing the hand gunner; I've added a wick, a powder horn and I've drilled out the top of the barrel a little.

The join looks a but rough, but it's been sanded smooth to the touch; should be fine once primed.

Shown next to one of the original spearmen models; these will all have shields as well, so it should serve to further differentiate them from the base model.

The wick, the powder horn and the gun itself will all be put into that oyamaru stuff and I'll make simple press molds out of them so I don't have to mess around with sculpting them on each one. With that, I can turn the crossbow/axe dwarves into hand gunners as well, but I'm going for an old school, lots of monopose look with this army anyway, so it's not too bad.

Just finished modelling this dwarf. Going to wait for it to cure and then spray the rest of my army because I've finally got primer.

You have a different head for the rider? He doesn't look too thrilled about taking skulls ATM.

finished these

Cool that you put some effort into "upgrading" these generic sculpts. Keep up the work.

12 classic metal scouts for a small army that will double as SWA warband

Waiting for this one to be released.... not too long now, next wave after the imminent one iirc.

Isn't she wearing the sex change belt across her tits? Does this mean she used to be a man?

Wow the models arent that bad at all once you remove the shit GW painjob. They were great painters once, what the fuck happened?

I would personally add cyan blue and pink to that yellow, to create a more sharp impactful 80s appearance

The GW photography team is also really all over the place which doesn't help. Some of the models look way better in hand than the promo shots

How is this new? Whenever there's a new model and people get a bitchfit over it, I always try to remind everyone that GW has plenty of bad paintjobs and bad photos, and plenty of hideous models have turned out to be ok in person.

Reposting in new thread
WIP of my warboss

I tried my hand at sculpting some folds in the cloak, how'd it turn out?

Better than it was. Keep at it, practice makes perfect.

Is there a reasonably priced Kingdom death anywhere?

finished my all metal death wing... Whats a good matt varnish to use for metals?

Dropzone? Looks cool!

Ta da...

...

I'm honestly positively surprised with Goliaths as well. They look less bulky and better proportioned in person.

Back then GW had a reputation for the absolute best paintjobs, it was only FW that had shit ones.

I'm not sure if you're joking. It's necromunda, house Escher.

Maybe they realised little nooblets get scared if they absolutely perfect paintjobs? With the modern mentality of low effort, immediate reward, they don't want to scare the kiddies away so they do a subpar job?

It's a marketing tactic that has worked before. Or yeah, maybe the good painters fucked off to better companies!

They now have two painter teams, the classic 'eavy metal that only does the important pieces, and the army painters which do the bulk in a lower quality.

Thanks guys, i'm not that enthusiastic about a head swap, since i especially bought this one for him. I mean, he's got a mohawk and everything!

Go for the orks, we don't get enough of those in here.

Really like the yellow on these.

That's really old school, i like it. I use Vallejo's Matt Primer. Works for me.

Good paintjob, user. I'm a sucker for yellow+purple and I seldom get to see that combination in minis.

That said, I'm now convinced these sculpts are indeed just fundamentally ugly. I still haven't seen anyone who can make these look good and that's not a putdown in regards to your efforts.

To me, the faces is the only part I dislike. Not all of them have to be beautiful but they all look gruff and masculine.

Marvelous thank you

Really like them. The only comment I can make really is the banner; looks a bit iffy compared to everything else. Perhaps try lining the symbol with black ink to tidy it up?

I want to get to paintint my Sydonian Dragoon now that it's fully magnetized. Is -2°C with low humidity far too cold to use spray or can it still work out? Do have access to a slightly warmer garage I could spray in too, probably around 0-5°C in there.

If not for the actual model, I'd like to at least get to work on the base already.

I'm reposting this because I can

Indeed, user.

I've been making digganobs for a gorkamorka campaign. Originally intended to enter fools on parade but life won't leave me enough time to do the good job I want to.

Nob and a guy. I'm going to paint him to look like he's LARPing as an ork.

When I eventually get home a knight warden don't know what scheme looks good yet
I know your pain user I'm buying a portable spray booth for this reason alone

Their shaman. I used guitar string for "necron spine" and I'm going to pint them kind of borg/Terminator looking.

But why? The model wasn't even cleaned up you've got a giant gash on it's right shoulder

i think there's an element of this yeah. application of the techniques duncan usually teaches on the videos.

Bashing up a toy Jeep. Front guy will hopefully look like a bombastic wrestler with a great weapon.

Touched up the shield and did the base rim and took some slightly better pictures.

Any recommendations on a cheap lightbox? Looking at spending around $50 USD

just put them in the fridge

the OP

Could try DIYing one. The most expensive part of that would probably be the LEDs and the gas to pick up stuff from the store. There's a bunch of decent tutorials on YouTube.

I dont own any lamps so I cant make one. If Im going to buy stuff to make one I would rather just buy a cheap lightbox

>be ill
>want to do some painting to kill time
>find out that, due to my posture during painting, painting is just plain suffering
Fucking sinusitis man
I just want to paint, but barely being able to breathe combined with headache and toothache make painting anything that isn't complete shit really hard

strengthen your back muscles to improve your posture

lift weights

user a lamp the size you want for a lightbox can't cost more than £10
You're not seriously telling me you want to spend another £40 for the privilege of a child worker putting some plastic together

Finally got them primed up. Going to wait for a bit for the paint to cure properly and then crack on with things. Flesh and beards first, then the rest of the model. Not going for anything crazy, just a nice tabletop quality of basecoat, wash, highlight.

>only 1 lamp
Thats a shitty lightbox

>40 pounds

You can find lightboxes cheap on amazon for about $50 USD

That's about £35.

It wont help me now, but I will take your advice to ensure that I don't get pain in my back when I finally can paint again

The colour they use on the BA models is 50/50 mephiston red/ evil sunz scarlet.

I had a similar epiphany a few years ago. Back was aching from sitting bent over while painting so I started lifting. Fair warning, you probably won't be able to paint much if you've got a job and go lifting after work. At least I wasn't for a few months because my muscles were tired and hands jittery 4 days of the week.

user check on eBay. My GF got me a lightbox off their for my birthday last year, it's fucking great and I can't imagine it cost more than a tenner (it's like, foldable and shit)

Simple Warmahordes angry elf WIP (as in, literally just basecoat); not sure if I wanna go silver, gold, or some other metallic for all the buckles, buttons and gubbins. Suggestions?

love the lead effect you gave to the shield.

>Is the basic color for Blood Angels mephiston red?

It is now. Didn't used to be so grim and dark. If you use Evil Sunz Scarlet as your base, you'll be able to get a brighter red ... if that's what you like.

>If yes which shade would fit with it?

Like said, it's Agrax Earthshade.

I have mono, same here bro i know how you feel

this paintrack app for android actually not bad

Dethklok approved. Well done lad

I just lowered my chair when I paint so it's less distance from countertop to face

Thoughts? Advice? Why did I pick these guys to paint as an entry point?

Starting to get into Napoleonic miniatures, these are my first models painted for this period. Next up will be some actual redcoats.

Lookin' sharp! What scale are these? How do they stack up next to a Space Marine size-wise?

Mixed in with them will look pretty damn good, fair enough.
Powder horn is a nice touch, as a spot colour it will do wonders to differentiate.
Good work lad.

should i do undead shields or regular shields? Im thinken the grave guard shields

That's a really nice blue/purple.
Are you going bright or dark for the skin?

Noice.
I love the stodgy old Termies so much more than the current batch - they look so much more like an actual limiting heavy space suit.

Well, now there are six. I need more time in the day. I wonder how Saurus would look as Fire Warriors, maybe?

Holy fuckballs how did you get that cast iron texture?

what do you use for the basing?

Saurus would be kroot for sure

>sharp

Really like the idea but not fond of the base. Too crowded / obstructs the miniature.

Also that metallic is grainy, I dont know if that was the intention. And you can work on the stripes

Working on neferata rn, still trying to figure out what I want to do for the mounts colours

I think saurus heads would probably be too large to look good on fire warriors

It has always been bright red regardless of the current way GW names its paints

>Fear the big stompy foot of Warboss Blankey!

>Originally intended to enter fools on parade but life won't leave me enough time to do the good job I want to.

Hey man, it's /wip/ - we're cool with 85% done diggas.
Do it faggot.

They look amazing.
Good stump on the Boss.
You going fleshtone with bad facepaint?
That's my personal favourite scheme for them.
Keep on trukking.

>tarellian dog soldiers

28mm Perry Miniatures

Looks to be in scale with the Lord of the Rings range but they look super frail compared to GW 'heroic' scale

Taurox #2 finally on the way, just highlights and other small stuff to go. Painting vehicles is worse than pulling teeth for me.

Got the bits for some more crusaders as well.

Hi, does super clean damage green stuff?
If so any tips for stripping it?

Spot of trouble lads. I've official gotten too many miniatures to fit onto a AoP board.
What's a good method for deciding which ones to remove? I've already considered making scenery for several levels of figures, mind you.

All specialist games are FW. Theyre the same painters as FW. Not Citadel.

What models do you have in mind?
