Lower Planes

Can we have a thread about the nine hells and the blood war

What happens when a baatezu, demon, or yugoloth dies, do they just get ripped out of existence? And also how do they get replaced, what spawns them. I've gathered that Asmodeus bleeds pit fiends but what about the rest. Especially the demons of the abyss seem to have endless legions

No you can't. Anti-D&D fags combined with creativity hating invaders have made such threads impossible.

Read Planescape for the correct answer.

Their essence unless captured by something (Read: Night hags) along the way, returns to their home plane. Given that they have failed they will likely suffer dearly for their shortcomings, devils might have some luck with a benefactor keeping them safe while their Lemure form regrows to its former glory in return for some sentence of service, Yugoloths probably have had to have bought some kind of insurance policy prior, and even then, that's no safe bed. Demons? A Marilith that falls in the blood war and reforms somewhere in the endless planes of the abyss best hope its fucking quiet on whichever plane they end up on because they are beyond screwed, other demons will smell them out not only for being a dirty dretch to kick around but also the irony of their once being a demon more powerful at some point than they are now, thus ripe for some cathartic bullying. And if they knew the marilith personally? Oh.... Oh boy.

>What happens when a baatezu, demon, or yugoloth dies, do they just get ripped out of existence?
On another plane, they go home. On their home plane, they die forever.
>And also how do they get replaced, what spawns them.
Varies by type. Devils get promoted from soul shells, arcanaloths have one reborn every time one dies, and demons form from souls or the condensed matter of the plane. There are some of each kind that can also reproduce sexually to grow their numbers.

This is all accurate, if poorly formatted.

'tis the greatest anguish I can apply to mortal souls on this board. Poor grammar.

>What happens when a baatezu, demon, or yugoloth dies, do they just get ripped out of existence?
Depends where they die. If anywhere but their native plane, they return home and slowly reform. It can take quite a while to do so, but they do. If on their native plane, they are obliterated forever.

>And also how do they get replaced, what spawns them.
Depends on the exact fiend, but they all start with petitioners. Souls that go to the Lower Planes all end up as petitioners and are slowly raised up to fiendhood over time in a manner that befits the plane in question. Devils are tortured into higher forms and then are promoted based on merit (and deviousness). Demons have to claw their way up from nothing. I don't actually know how yugoloths do it, but I'm sure that Planescape from 2nd Ed has an answer somewhere.

>I've gathered that Asmodeus bleeds pit fiends but what about the rest. Especially the demons of the abyss seem to have endless legions
Asmodeus does do that but those fiends rarely leave Nessus, instead patrolling the chasms endlessly as an impromptu guard force. The demons have an endless swarm because the Abyss is endless. Yes, that's a bit of a tautology but there you have it.

>Can we have a thread about the nine hells and the blood war

No. The Nine Hells aren't even interestingly retarded like Acheron. It's just Dante but lamer and more meaningless.

The army of demons is infinite. The army of devils is unlimited. Key distinction!

>Hell is supposed to manifest as the ultimate suffering for the person experience.
>Hell for adventurers is fucking lame and meaningless, nothing of note ever happens, saturday cartoon villain schemes that never work and fall flat on their own even without the heroes intervention.

Holy shit user you might be onto something here.

I'll be watching this thread, closely..

>Depends on the exact fiend, but they all start with petitioners. Souls that go to the Lower Planes all end up as petitioners and are slowly raised up to fiendhood over time
And a petitioner is an evil human (or whatever)? Could it be an evil character's long-term goal to become a high ranking devil or demon?

I love it how Devils think they're sophisticated and shit when-
>Fucking Leader doesn't even give two shits about the entire thing
>Has a physical reproductive cycle that can be easily hijacked by X cabal of Wizards
>Is surrounded by Infernals that can threaten the higher ups at any time
>has opposing Demigod
>Bleeding it's monetary resources Dry with Mephistophele's shit-tier hellfire project
>Mephistophele's true name is literally fucking floating around
>Wastes time and precious living space toturing petitioner's physically to extract magical energy
>Is not directly a race or species, due to literally being a cluster fuck of varied creatures with different origins only held by the extremly underdeveloped infernal energies which have no definign class usage- opposed to half the shit you can get from the Abyss alone just by standing in the place
>Has a fucking Aboleth Infestation in it's waters
>Has a massive Security breach because of fucking Tiamat attracting a Crusade/Party trying to kill Orcus by killing Tiamat to get her blood multiple times in a fucking row
>Has to Rent to Tiamat
>Literally lives next to their own Equivalent of Skinwalkers- terrified of them
>Entire infrastructure can be brought down by a single dagger from Greek Myth
>Only legit strat is to spam fireballs by flying.
>Entire prestige class dedicated to stealing from them on a semi-regular basis
>Somehow allowed for Ninja Vampires to steal from them regularly
>Has a Torture device that somehow makes you stronger for enduring it for no reason
>Pit Fiends just so happen to look Draconic- revealling their master's true nature as Ahriman
Hahahaha Holy shit hell is fucked.

>No Psionics present- on that note, there is a fucking Psionic power that lets you put people into the ideal dreamworld, imagine the space they could save if they just put every soul on auto-harvest using a metamagic'd/psionic corrupted version of said power to do the whole Hell toture until ego/death/reproduction, pulling a Dante's Inferno Videogame scenario, not only saving inconceivable ammounts of manpower, but also allowing for expansion and other innovations in hell

TL;DR Wolfram and Hart, a literal CE Business firm of Demon Lawyers do Lawful Evil better than Lawful Evil actually does.

>Literally lives next to their own Equivalent of Skinwalkers- terrified of them
What? Hell has skinwalkers?

Ancient Baatorians- the creepy buggers that fucked off outta hell before Asmodeus and gang set up shop, make creepy low-frequency sounds that unnerves Devils, Suck the life out of everything including all forms of light, presumably using Utterdark, and are non-statted beyond like two encounters with them.

Some were Allegedly killed in the Colonisation of the place- and their supposed leader is an Old TSR villian in cahoots with Juiblex, now Elder Evil meaning he's an Anti-deity powerhouse but people raise suspisicion on Zargon being the big cheese and not an actual distraction and example of just how fucking powerful and terrifiying the Baatorians were- next to the fact Mephistopheles's wide is one, who had the ability to literally randomize and know a person's True name, meaning she could effectively rewrite a person's conceptual nature.

Also, somehow ended up getting merged into the Devil's reproduction process which inherantly suggests they're literally RAW Sapient Incarnum constructs made our of pure woe that eventually became beings of pure malignant thought, and dissappeared around the exact same time the Illithid showed up- real big mystery.

Where is all this stuff laid out?

There are hints of it in FC1 and FC2, but most of it is 2E stuff like Faces of Evil and Planes of Law.

You're wiped of your memories and personality when you become a petitioner. You won't be you anymore. It's possible to shortcut the process by making a deal, but it's not like THAT ever gone badly, right?

Also, in-universe that's highly esoteric lore. Very few people on the Prime actually know that's how it works.

ok that makes sense, but doesn't that mean they would run out of new recruits, or do you automatically come a petitionier when you die, assuming you're evil?

Everyone becomes a petitioner when you die and you go to whatever plan matched your alignment, more or less.

Petitioner is the go to term in what form your soul takes on it's hopeful native afterlife- if you cock up, you become trade fodder and end up meeting with total ego-death at some point, Ending up fuel for either spectrum of the blood war is one way it goes down.

Devils torture your until you become a lemure by fishing you out of the mindwipe waters when you arrive on their plane, and make claims for their souls corrupted- they get LE souls automatically, but this is where the blood war kicks in because other planes get their native alignments automatically also- and the goal is to get all planes to get access to the auto soul resources.

When you wind up in hell you're a soul husk, which is a withered emancipated version of yourself with post-mortem wounds around Hell's mindwipe river, devils pick you up, you get catalogged and set up for your given punishment till they bleed you dry and you pretty much get lobotomized thanks to the pain and stop existing as you and end up freshly recycled to be an amorphrous blob of pain and hate to be matured into a devil via infernal energy infusion via promotion rituals.

The other lower planes turn you into a maggot. One place has you traded by hags, the other traded, eaten or lucky enough to retain your 'self' and earn a spot on the proving ground of the abyss as you rank up as a demon till you get Lord status.

Ancient Baatorians are SCARY, Zargon or not Zargon.
Who knows what lays frozen in Cania.
