Should I buy a ledger? How concerned should I be about the code not being open sourced?
On one hand it is all the rage with reddit and normies, and they are always wrong about everything and I would love to see them all getting just'd by some massive flaw.
On the other hand I download copious asian porn and other shit on my PC and don't trust my own security enough to move off exchanges but I'm closing in on 50k in the hands of soulless chinks.
I usually just go to one of those coin sites where you put your private address and store them there.

For extra safety - YES

Just use a paper wallet. Some guy on here got fucked up because his got lost in a flash flood. If this happened with a paper wallet you could still access your wallet using a downloaded JSON file
Bentley Jenkins
You can restore from a seed phrase they give you that guy must not have saves his or something.
I'm only concerned about some kind of crazy security flaw hacking all these I guess I was hoping some really smart guy can tell me if it's possible.
Jack Brown
You have to write down the seed phrase that is generated when you create the wallet and keep in several secure locations. That's how you're able to restore access to your coins on this device should you get locked out, it gets lost and you have to restore to a new device, etc.
Joshua Gomez
so, should I get a printer?
Jose Parker
>t.brainlet That guy lost a hard drive in that flood, not a hardware wallet. Either way he's a retard for not having a backup somewhere other than in the same house...
Christopher Watson
If you have 50K worth of cryptos and use the same computer for browsing (porn sites, no less) and handling your coins, you are a complete and utter moron.
No need to buy a Ledger, you will fuck its security up somehow.
Alexander Long
FUCKKKKKKKK LEDGERRRRRRRR
I CAN'T TRANSFER MY NEP5 TOKENS OUT OF LEDGER REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Jace Miller
No because then your private key has to go over your network.
Don't be cheap. Just buy a ledger nano s. Basically it's a paper wallet of your mnemonic phrase, with the added benefit of being easy and safe as fuck to sign transactions from nano. It's so much more convenient and safe than any of the alternatives. The only other safe way is an offline computer and signing transactions that way is a pain.
Luke Rodriguez
>just lock your coins up, who ever wants to trade lmao
I use 2fa you brainlet the only threat is the exchange getting hacked or exit scamming, which is a serious enough threat for me to consider getting one of these for my long term holds.
Nathaniel Allen
>transfering tokens to known unsupported hardware
it's almost like you tried to be retarded.
Daniel Richardson
>mnemonic phrase, jajajajajja mnemonic phrase
Oliver Martinez
Yh I hit £350k on Xmas and it’s started to dawn on me I need to take security a lot more seriously. Iv just bought a nano ledger s and I’m going to put them on there and put the seed in a few secure locations.
Jonathan Jenkins
It shouldn't be possible, as the private key is literally (supposedly) never exposed at any point. So there's nothing to hack/exploit.
Ryan Richardson
ez

Brainlet question: If trezor or whatever company/site you used to make your wallet goes out of business, crashes, etc, do you still retain access to your monies?
Gabriel Collins
Yeah just use the seed recovery in a different wallet like Mycelium or some shit like that.
Gavin Cox
No1 just writes down the address and their keys on paper and put in a safe?
Thomas Smith
inb4 i find your seed :D
Joseph Rogers
>350k teach me
Carson James
>goes to a compromised site >site sniffs out private keys on computer >MEW gets emptied
If it's more than $10k, then you're fucking retarded for not investing $60 in security. If it's less, who gives a shit.
Nathaniel Lee
Why hasn't anybody made Ledger clones that transfer all your wallet contents to some Chinaman scammer's account yet?
As an extra safety measure, send yourself an e-mail with a 24-line poem. Since the code is 24 words.
Make every 3rd word on each line the security code word.
Matthew Scott
They probably have. That's why you must order directly or from reputable dealers. Also one of the main attacks is getting you to sign transactions on fake sites where they will change the address. So you need to be sure you're on the correct MyEtherWallet or Etherdelta site for example.
yea, have fun getting robbed newfriend.
If it's a software wallet then you just have to import your private keys into a different wallet. Trezor is supported by various other online wallets, like MyEtherWallet.
Jaxson Hughes
One more brainlet question:
Can FUN, ICX, QSP, and REQ be stored on a Ledger?
James Reed
Dont know wether you are larping being dumb or just genuinely stupid. We should be friends
Carson Campbell
i can use the same program on trezor/myetwallet since both use 12 words
Easton Fisher
They support about 20 coins. IF they are eth tokens then yes they will support them. So if you are HODLing alts then you will have to wait for updates. Awesome thing is they generally support ico eth token distribution
Carson Nguyen
they both use 24 word seeds, and Trezor can have passphrase protected wallets where the passphrase becomes the 25th word of the seed.
Good luck pajeet, but you're not going to do shit.
Nolan Russell
It's a legit strat though. A lot better than just having a plain 24 word code lying around.
Most security guys I know store codes in innocent text documents like a letter, poem, study, and then only has to remember that for example every 12th word of the text is part of the code.
Andrew Kelly
>getting baited this hard
John Thompson
Just make a paper wallet for free dummy
Blake Watson
Not sure if you've noticed, but in the last 2 weeks we've been invaded by tech illiterate normies/boomers looking to get rich quick.
I don't think he was trolling.
Leo Wright
>Take 20 year old PC and printer, format and reinstall everything using 20 year old install disk
> Never connect to any network
>Write a script to generate addresses and private keys
>print keys using LPT cable
Advantage: No way for malware to compromise your key with a infected *high security* USB stick
