Do any of you have a bigger version of this image?

Any more like these? Love me some overgunned cigar ships.

>Deflector shields that literally deflect
My mind is blown.

Also, how the hell do three projectiles combine into one in mid-flight and then split into three again?

Do space fighters count?

I vaguely recall seeing it in Starfinder, IIRC its a ship used by the lizard people in that setting

What's the biggest ship in mainstream sci-fi that's not an artificial world or space station?

Is it this dumb ship from Last Jedi? 60km in length.

The Orion is a good example of what bothers me about Freespace ship design: It's often way too chaotic and "busy". It has about ten different colors splattered randomly all over it and a bunch of little glowy points that literally light it up like a Christmas tree. And what's with all those random pointy bits on the bottom?

In contrast, here's the carrier you fly off of in the Wing Commander Saga mod. Sleek, symmetrical design, consistent and minimalist color scheme. Looks like something an actual space military would build. And it's in a mod for Freespace 2, so it's not like there's some quirk of the Freespace engine that makes the Orion look the way it does.

Wing Commander fighters also generally look better than Freespace fighters. Again, they look like something a military would plausibly build. They still have style, but they're not as weird-looking as stuff like the Myrmidon from Freespace 2. They also have basic similarities in their color schemes, unlike Freespace fighters (which have a lot of different colors and sometimes look like they don't all belong to the same organization).

Freespace is the better game overall, but I do tend to prefer Wing Commander's approach to visual design. Hell, even the damn flight suits look better in Wing Commander.

I never had a problem with Star Wars' obsession with massive ships, because it fits. Who keeps making ans using these things? Nine times out of ten, the Sith. Sith are not only greedy, paranoid and selfish, they follow the Rule of Two, one to embody power, one to crave it. It's entirely believable that they would want power centralized to that degree, a single facility or ship that can dominate entire galactic regions through fear.

Because when your power is based on a single asset, you only have to manage and maintain control of one asset. Yes, it comes around to bite them in the ass every time, but they're the bad guys so I'm okay with that.

Sith are arrogant enough to think they THEY will be the one to get it right, because again, Rule of Two. It's practically designed to make them think they're the strongest Sith ever, because they killed their master, who killed their master, ad infinitum, so that means they must be strongest by the transitive property.

You could just start dumping EVE ships and I'd be okay with that. Maybe even those cutaways.
Though with stuff like
it always seems like they're made after the ships official design and it's justification after the fact as to why the ship works.

I always liked Lighthuggers from Revelation Space.
A 'Hardish-SciFi' interstellar spaceship

This is the only one I have. Sadly I deleted most of my crap trying to clear out some space.

I'm looking for an illustrator to do cover art for a book - anyone working in this genre I should look into?
