Destroyers already have enough movement they don't really need to advance. The guaranteed movement on nephekh is pretty good, I'd rather get into range sooner than have a single shot at -1 BS.

Even that is only a recent soft retcon. Before that all we knew was that Magnus was also sitting on his ass or getting it plowed by Tzeentch
It gains "it's cool" points for being absolutely baller. A mecha flying at Mach 9 towards your tanks, shooting them to slag then charging them and chopping them to pieces with his energy blades and dying horribly afterwards because Tau in melee lul is awesome.
