I have a question about the guard/spearmen/swordsmen/etc kit. How do the shields work in assembly? The rules say guys with spears and halberds can take shields but the pictures I've seen always show them holding the weapon twohanded and no shields.

The shields are their own bit with no arm/hand attachments meaning that you can easily glue them either on the hand of the model or attached it to its arm. Rulewise they can take shields with spears and halberds but they don't get the bonus of the shield when using a halberd in CC as it requires two hands to use.
IIRC they had rules in 6th edition, as did Johann and Wihelm.
