I'm working on a campaign themed around the seven deadly sins. Any suggestions on how to approach lust without coming across as a /d/M?

Lust is an absolutely hideous demon, so hideous in fact that it is usually invisible, as it kills things when seen simply by existing. It causes lust in others, it is not a lustful being nor is it in any way sexually attractive (unless you're h.r. giger).

Dunno what kind of game you're planning, but maybe something were the villain is obsessed with wedding an innocent who doesn't want it. Villains lust for his target is displayed in wild, flagrant displays of affection that the subject is clearly not into, but said villain isn't the type to just out and out rape someone.

Just don't lead with it my dude.

Lust is a lethal joke character. Nobody takes her seriously because she’s just about sex.

Which is exactly what she counts on, being espionage themed, working in the shadows.

I've been planning a difference in scale between the sins. Wrath wants to drown the entire countryside in tides of blood. Envy is a jealous woman obsessing over a man. I just want there to be more of a lead-up than 'go smack this guy into submission because he's bad'.

A focus on apathy and pettiness?

Like the leadership could deal with the crises, or they coupd partake in the earthly pleasures of the flesh.

>I'm working on a campaign themed around the seven deadly sins.
Maybe you should just jerk off in front of your players the to this bad cliche.

I thought about making Lust's host a girl but realized it might be better to make it a guy. The 'gender' of the demon itself I haven't decided on just yet.

Sure. Massive tragedy occurs, whatever it is. School shooting, terror strike, w/e and the guards or whoever is supposed to prevent or stop it didn't because they were [masturbating to porn, having sex, chasing down a victim to rape etc]. Looking into that leads to the discovery of Lust as an entity/theme/motive

Hmm. Never thought about it that way. Thanks for the suggestions.

Repression. The forbidden fruit is always sweeter, so Lust is influencing things to make laws more Puritanical, banking on people inventing new deviancies because they're ALREADY breaking the law.

And how is Lust achieving this? By corrupting someone who thought himself above corruption. Think Frollo: his response to his own lust was to try even harder to eradicate the Gypsies so that they'd stop making him feel impure. Even easier if Lust is a guy, because then the pure incorruptible leader can feel sinful for homosexual urges and try to shut down ALL sex in his panic.

I feel like this one would create problems later on when you have to figure out what to do with Gloth.

So, Measure for Measure, but with fags?

Sloth involves a mage putting people to sleep semi-permanently a la Sleeping Beauty. He sees it as a mercy since the rest of the world's gone to shit, and who wouldn't like to escape into the blissful realm of dreams? People are actually lining up for this and making pilgrimages to receive his 'gift'.

Lust isn't defined when your campaign starts. Rather, it's something your player's character desires or treasures.

Family, glory, riches, etc. Once you have an idea what it is, you use it to bait them into dangerous/tricky situations, or force them to be at odds with their allies and friends. Eventually the character becomes isolated and that's when the proper demon appears, as representative of that they have chased having forsaken all else.

If they don't really follow the above path, the lust demon never really gets the power it needs to strike.

Tell us the order then

In that case i’d go the Futa route. Not even for fetish, but that’s the logical conclusion for ‘built for every kind of sex’.

Like maybe try steering into the curve?
Makes sense given how useles our politicians are, and how constantly they are embroiled in sex scandals, usually eye ones harping on family values.

lust devoid of sanity
It starts out as degenerate philias, after a week of debauchery the victims start expanding to debased sexual exploitation before graduating to truly reprehensible things.
So once we've covered everything from pedophilia to necrophilia and bestiality reality ceases to provide an adequate outlet for their sexual desires. Most simply self-destruct in vicious sexual denigration but those gifted in magic take a turn for the worse. We're not talking summoning succubi, oh no. After you've pleasured yourself with every prostitute under the sun, fucked several animals, and psychologically destroyed some minors supernatural beauty of the perfect human form isn't going to cut it. These wizards are going to plumb neck deep into the abyssal planes looking for the most inhuman beings to satisfy their unquenchable desires. Take any of the nightmare waifu threads on /aco and remove any semblance of human sexuality from them. The point is not lust for the human form, it's the kind of shit cenobites get up to when they're particularly bored.

>but that’s the logical conclusion for ‘built for every kind of sex’
Are you *sure* about that?

Each 'sin' is focused around a certain area on the map. They can be done in whatever order my players want.

Wrath's plan is to try and trick the players into initiating bloodshed on a massive scale. Wrath's host is chaotic evil but smart. Rather than being in murderhobo mood 100% of the time, Wrath realized that being subtle and controlling the bloodlust can lead to even more people dying and even more blood being shed.

Envy possessed a girl in a small town. She's a leatherworker and a very good one at that, offering a bunch of high-class enchanted leather goods to the players. They don't even need to pay for them! All she requires is a small favor. You see, there's this guy she has an eye for, but he never seems to notice her... The players can play matchmaker if they wish, and perhaps investigate the string of disappearances in town as well.

Greed possessed a magistrate who runs a small town with an iron fist. Put one toe out of line and he'll have you thrown in prison on horribly trumped-up charges. All you have to do is slide him some gold, or maybe an artifact or two, and he'll make all your problems go away. No gold? Perhaps a favor or two will suffice.

Like I mentioned previously, Sloth possessed a mage who wants to give people an escape from their horrible lives. He'll cast a spell that will put you into a deep, never-ending sleep that can only be broken by a few specific circumstances. People are lining up to take advantage of this.

Gluttony possessed a baroness, enabling her to safely eat anything you can think of, no matter how toxic or unappealing. She's currently in search of some exotic cuts of meat (unicorn, basilisk, phoenix), and she's willing to pay handsomely. Don't expect to just tell her 'no' though, she holds considerable power over disease and the undead.

Still haven't decided on Lust or Pride. Pride should be easy enough to come up with, I just need some help with Lust.

So for clarification are these individual demons or entities that are directly controlling people, or do you mean "possessed" in a more abstract way? Also are each of these incidents directly related to one another or is it more just a thematic thing?

I thought about taking inspiration from Slaaneshi cults, but realized that I *probably* don't want to scare off most of my players. We're doing D&D, not FATAL or Dark Heresy. That's why I'm asking- I have no problem implying that some fucked up shit is going on, but right now I'm just hoping for a group that lasts more than five sessions. The last thing I need is for someone to run off.

They're not controlling them like puppets, just exerting their influence and whispering in their ears. They're physically inside their host, granting special powers or transformations, but the demon doesn't get control.

just talk to you players and give them a heads up that stuff is going to be fucked and if they dont like it just ask what they are ok with and what they arent they're people too you know.

I suppose it doesn't have to be inherently SEXUAL lust (But of course then you run the risk of it edging too far into Envy's territory). You could try playing with something in the vein of Narcissus maybe. Giving an emphasis on beauty instead like that could provide plenty of opportunities to get fucked up, but not /d/ fucked up.

Lust is not necessarily sexual, traditionally. It can mean just intense desire, although you'll need to differentiate it from Greed

Full Metal Alchemist?

This is pretty alright OP, have a comely prince trying to LEGO movie his land and his people into aesthetic perfection
But I feel you might have to bite the bullet a little, after all lust, greed, and envy are seperate for a reason; And saying "Yes here is lust but not in a /sexual/ way" will just draw more attention to it than saying "Yes the lust demon is inherently at least a little sexual."

That's exactly the problem I was having. I can't think of it as anything BUT sexual since other 'lusts' are covered by other sins. Lust for money? Greed. Lust for food/wine/drugs? Gluttony. Lust for power? Pride/Envy.

Well if you have an alternate suggestion let me here it.

I say take what about the "goal" being an obsession with aesthetic perfection, but then just make the character itself have a "Sexual" personality or whatever. That way you avoid weird magical realmy shit, but without it turning into "Lust, but not really".

His land is unnaturally beautiful. Almost *too* perfect. No cracks in the paved stones of the city, no dirt or mud inside the walls. No unsightly beggars or even ugly people. Plants don't wither and everyone seems young and full of youthful vigor. And the guy in charge of it all? He could rival a god for his looks. Why not stay a while? Surely your quests can wait a day or two. Or maybe a week. It's so nice here, after all.

Make lust androdgynous. No, not a trap, androdgynous. Think less that cat guy from Re:Zero and more Griffith, where he kinda looks like he could be either.

Focus less on lust and more on what it makes people do. It makes people do things they regret, it blinds them, people confuse it for love and let that persuade them to do horrible things because it's 'for love'. Think of a villager, lusting for the beautiful princess he sees on the balcony every evening yet unable to approach her due to the difference in their social status. What might someone obsessed like that do? He could kidnap her, he could kill her suitors, he could impersonate a noble to try and elope with her, there's plenty of hooks you could go for for a lust-focused villain that aren't magical realm-y.

I had an idea for a horrible, HORRIBLE subversion of the magical realm but I feel that it would scare my players off even more.

Ironically this seems like the one place where a magical realm would actually fit into the world without being forced. Of course Lust's host would be sexual, but I'm not even going to try flirting with the female PCs.

>Why not stay a while? Surely your quests can wait a day or two. Or maybe a week. It's so nice here, after all.
Too avoid getting to close to other sins, maybe instead of a land of the lotus eaters situation, it's more an issue of HIM wanting you to stay there as part of his collection. Like adding a new scenery piece to his city.

Also could play him like pic related (But maybe toned down) definitely would get across that "weird sexual" feeling, even if what he's doing isn't really inherently weird in a sexual way.

When I did a lust section in the game I was running with 7 deadly sin bosses, the enemy mooks were succubi. I just said they were sexy naked demons, and we cracked a few jokes about succ but other than that is was all just fine. No one freaked out, just don't dwell too long on the sex stuff.

Of course that was just a beat-em-up game, if you want to go for something that's got more layers of meaning to it then I guess dwelling on the lust is a necessity.

Extremely over the top camp sexy, I think that’s a bright idea- it’s too over the top to be confused for magical realm. Also works for my idea of them being a lethal joke villain.

I've been picturing him closer to Fulgrim so far. Thought it'd make a nice surprise boss battle when a giant four-armed snake demon comes for you. Still haven't set anything in stone.

>Lust for power? Pride/Envy.
Take in mind all the sins overlap (it's not uncommon to argue that they all ultimately stem from pride), but the important part of envy is not the desire itself, but that you want something that belongs to someone else. Without that element it can more clearly be any of the other sins. You can desire power without taking it from anyone. The confusion can arise because the most iconic example of pride is also the most iconic example of envy (lucifer's rebellion).

Depends on the tone of the campaign, obviously. Personally I like what said as far making him over the top sexual in a campy way. Introduce him as more an eccentric that you could start off using for laughs (Maybe the players actually DO want to stay in this town a little longer because they enjoy interacting with this weird, but oddly likable lord), but then as his obsession gets revealed these "friendly" eccentricities provide an unsettling contrast with his actions.

But of course if that would be weird stylistically in your campaign Fulgrim would obviously be a much better fit. Maybe his desire for perfection is much more obvious and intense actively scolding or commenting on the players' perceived flaws, before trying to "correct" them in gradually more extreme ways (Maybe he starts off commenting on a slouch or misusing silverware, to providing them with much more fashionable clothes before taking more extreme measures to fit them into his "perfect" little world.)

Each sin has it's own dungeon based around the sin. Look to Soul Eater for ideas, I guess?
The dungeons or areas could also have a mental affect on the characters. Gluttony makes your characters become twice as hungry, Lust makes you twice as thirsty, characters with traits that lean towards specific sins are more heavily affected while maybe Paladins aren't affected at all.
Funny story, a campaign centered around the seven deadly sins can also just be a regular fucking campaign because everybody commits these sins constantly

> Any suggestions on how to approach lust without coming across as a /d/M?
None. If you're going to cover sins you can't shrink away from their nature. It should be explored to it's limits, which is the whole point of sin. Mass orgies, depravity in excess, the choking stench of sex, flesh and sweat melting into one orgasmic carpet of bodies, writhing mindlessly for carnal pleasure, lost in a horrifying dream land of bliss. Sticky, wet, dripping, supple, swollen, slick and steamy. If you cover lust you should cover it properly, as with the other sins.

Damn. They're both great ideas. One one hand, it'd be fun as hell to do the campy guy, but on the other, it kind of clashes with the rest of the world I have planned. Maybe I'll put the campy guy aside for another session, or even a diversion in this one if things start getting too grim.

I don't know why but these posts conjured the idea of mixing HIM from Power Puff Girls with the G-Man from Half-Life
That could tone your camp down while keeping him fucking weird

Instead of mental effects in a dungeon, I'm having certain artifacts associated with each sin. They're tremendously powerful, maybe even to the point of being overpowered, but they come with a huge risk and can start corrupting the players just by being carried. The artifact for gluttony, for example, starts making the player have dark cravings. Not just things like sentient flesh, but those that are disturbing or dangerous- medusa headsnakes, basilisk eyes, chromatic dragon meat...

Play it camp, but play it disturbing.

I think it also works given how uncomfortable sex as a topic is without trying to make it weird.

Like maybe your solution is to make sure you aren’t playing the sex up to be ‘sexy’ play it up to be uncomfortable.

This. Don't pull the players into some sexual situations, but have them be witness to depravity, thats the difference between being a creepy /d/M and setting the scene of disturbing sin in excess.

Could always have a middle ground. Maybe not as ridiculously over the top as Frankenfurter, but a more toned downed "Fuck, I love being alive!" kind of guy. Make him the sort of unflappable guy who you're pretty sure just insulted you, but he moves on too fast for you to actually muster up a objection to it. Sure he's weird and kind of unnerving, but not to the extent that it would be wildly out of the ordinary.

>Like maybe your solution is to make sure you aren’t playing the sex up to be ‘sexy’ play it up to be uncomfortable.
Like I said earlier, maybe not as overt as Frankenfurter, but having him not be shy about broaching such topics or uncomfortably "flirting" with someone can give the air of sexuality but without the turn on.

Expose the players to the sins in way that makes them uncomfortable, or even sickened. Gluttony: folks gorging themselves to the point that their throats are bulging with food, no more room in their stomachs to fit it all, yet they are still pushing more into their lips, squeezing out rivers of grease that runs down their swollen lips and over their immense, bloated bodies, skin stretched to the point of tearing in some places. Wrath: People so angry they are grinding their teeth to dust, gritting their jaws, splinters of enamel splitting their gums, causing blood to rush through their teeth and down their chins, eyes bulging with fury, capillaries popping, knuckles drained of blood from how tight their fists are clenched, nails dug to the bone in their palms, muscles tense to the point of tearing, people just ACHING to attack and being held back by something, forcing them to stew in their anger. Shit like that, make the players really not want to be around this shit.

>Lust means sex lmao

It’s desire my guys kill this meme already

So something like mindbreaking people into mindless sex slaves then- but again remove the fetish and take inspiration from like the actual sex slave trade.

My favorite way to interpret the 7 Sins is to invoke them in an ironic way, that is usually the opposite of how they are commonly depicted. Like Gluttony is usually some fat guy. But you know those pictures of starving kids from Africa, that are just skeletons with bloated bellies? That's how I picture Gluttony, they look like that, but this is despite eating constantly, they are always starving.

I guess looking at Lust this way would make them Elliot Rogers.

No, keep the fetish, the fetish is the point of lust. It shouldn't seem like these people influenced by lust are doing it under duress, they should be SWALLOWED in their carnal pleasures, mindless lumps of flesh grinding and writhing in a cacophony of bliss, as if their very brains have melted, leaving just the desire behind.

Hyper Puritan Lust would be hilarious and confirm a lot of my biases.

Okay, but that seems neither sexing, nor overwhelmingly uncomfortable. Like just a thing.

Desire is ever sin, user, it's just a different aspect of desire for each

Gluttony's going to be a tall, pale woman who's so thin she's almost lich-like. She's already cannibalized most of her town and her servants, and hopes to secure the players' help in obtaining some highly dangerous, illegal, or immoral ingredients for her next 'feast'.

It's uncomfortable with the right gravitas. Also, you'd be silly not to be uncomfortable if you walked into an orgy.

I don’t know. I’m pretty liberal. I guess it depends on the orgy.

I was thinking more how much justified reeing I’ve seen over fetish settings, as those things are pretty terrifying once you remove the sex appeal.

Kill yourself my man

Attached: Lust.png (635x928, 62K)

Fetish settings get ree'd and hated on because it's the DM trying to go "Oh yeah, look at this shit, it's erotic, right? Don't you guys realize why I get off to this? Wanna take part in my sexual gratification?" You can't shy away from sexual topics when dealing with a lust-themed scenario, just don't make it weird, as in you're getting off on this kind of weird. Make your players uncomfortable by the circumstances and the atmosphere, not the subtext of the situation.

I'm hoping that it'll be abundantly clear that... partaking in any of these activities is not a good thing to do. If one of the players tries anything, he'll succeed (offscreen of course) but end up falling under the thrall of the demon. No chance of a saving throw.

It should be weird, but because it’s supposed to be weird. Essentially make the Lust Demon that /d/m.

Exactly!

Anyone experienced in creating homebrew creatures? I've been trying to write up something for Daemon Fulgrim when my players inevitably try to fight him, but I'm not sure if it's broken or not.

make it the other type of lust: bloodlust

Luke? Is that You?

[[Have a friend working in the same idea lmao]]

Lust can be personified as Cupid - the god of romantic love.

We're shielded from a lot of the dangers of sex in our society but ancient societies had very legitimate reasons to be against romantic love I think personifying lust would just be bringing those dangers to the forefront.

Syphilis is horrific, grossly deforming and then killing you and in part is why we get phrases like burning passions and love described as a literal disease that washes through you.

Getting pregnant is terrifying. You may not be able to support the child. You may die in childbirth. If the child has no legitimate father he doesn't exist as far as society is concerned , he's a bastard.

Family bonds are incredibly important for social cohesion as this is how trust is built in a far more dangerous society than we have today and this wasnt just the case for nobility. A tradesmen may marry his daughter to a butcher to create a bond with one of his suppliers. Marriage also creates a stable environment to raise healthy children in and it's still the case today that children from two parent families are far more well adjusted. Romantic love can tear these bonds, and therefore the fabric of society , apart.
