I mean, I've played maybe a dozen casual games of BT, and none for a long time. This is pretty much true. Same with that poll they did on the OF a while back.
Xavier Young
But I'm playing BT in two days. Gonna do a 3008 LosTech raid, gonna school some fools with disguised Com Guard.
Davions are the fucking worst, nothing bad ever happens to them. >FWL fractures apart in the DA >Lyrans and Draconians get invaded by the clans >Capellans get reamed by the Suns into irrelevancy
Ayden Miller
You...do see the Suns getting YELLOWED in both holes on the map, right?
Juan Harris
Buddy, did you not see him use the word Draconian? Nobody has used that for the Kuritans in almost 30 years. He's in some kind of time warp from 1989, probably shitposting from a IBM Personal PC AT.
Isaiah Fisher
And they've got all the set up and the prince in shining armor riding to save them, with special forces at his call. We also KNOW that by 3150 they're going to have the capellan march back (or at least the capital), so worst case for them they're getting dragon-ed in one hole by the faction that has not had a single win in the entire history of the franchise.
Blake Wilson
>can't go wrong >we haven't been allowed to win a war in 30 years come on
Henry Allen
So when putting together a WoB lance, you can just use Inner Sphere mechs right? I'm trying to keep things fluffy.
Lucas Roberts
>faction that has not had a single win in the entire history of the franchise
They had wins from the very beginning. God damn great campaign too.
The type of machines is vastly different between all of them.
Samuel Martinez
Sigh... I miss Caleb.
Lunatic tanker grew on me.
Joseph Lopez
You know what I meant, chucklefuck.
I'm kinda looking at a combined arms group. Mechs with a little bit of armor to support them.
Eli Smith
WoB mechs are IS mechs by definition. And they use Level IIs, not lances.
James Turner
I loved how he believed all the stuff that random people level at the Davions about how they can do no wrong and never lose. And also how he believed all the stuff old Davions would say like "Should finish off the Capellans once and for all!"
He was great, and not a total moron despite being crazy. Really fun Prince. So fucking dumb that we never actually saw him lead any big war, just the faffing around with stuff like New Hessen. The entire campaign of the Suns losing in late-DA is with them totally rudderless and flopping around because Caleb is gone.
Though I must admit a certain satisfaction imagining that little snot Erik sipping wine from the throne while everyone who used to be so far above him failed and died. And he's even still lord of the Draconis March after Julien gets back.
Nathan Miller
A level II is the functional equivalent of a Lance. Cool your autism.
Joshua Long
>I'm kinda looking at a combined arms group. Mechs with a little bit of armor to support them.
You didn't answer my question. And WoB is like old Comguards. They're combined arms top to bottom.
Alexander Rodriguez
Only if you get really shoehorny about it. WoB is less stratified and you can't understand the operational differences by putting units in one-to-one correspondence.
Isaiah James
Here's a fluffy Level III of mine, for example:
Level II Able >AS7-K Atlas >WHM-7M Warhammer >MAD-5M Marauder >STK-5M Stalker >VTR-9B Victor >CRD-5M Crusader Level II Baker >BLR-5M BattleMaster >ON1-M Orion >AWS-8Q Awesome >WR-DG-02FC War Dog >ARC-4M Archer >MR-V2 Cerberus Level II Charlie >GRF-3M Griffin >SHD-5M Shadow Hawk >Galleon light tank >Regular hover tank >Saracen med hover tank >Striker light tank Level II Dog >Alacorn heavy tank >Ontos heavy tank >Pike support vehicle >Von Luckner heavy tank >Von Luckner heavy tank >Demon tank Level II Easy >Karnov UR >Karnov UR >Foot Infantry Platoon (rifle, anti-mech trained) >Foot Infantry Platoon (laser, anti-mech trained) >Jump Infantry Platoon (SRM) >Jump Infantry Platoon (rifle) Level II Fox >Puma tank >Mobile HQ >135-K Coolant truck >J-27 Ordnance Transport >J-27 Ordnance Transport >MASH truck
A Protectorate Militia Level II might be a Shadow Hawk and a Phoenix Hawk backed up by a pair of wheeled vees and two infantry squads. A WoB Militia level II might be an Albatross, Vanquisher, and Legacy covered by two ASF and a BA squad. A Shadow Division Level II might be an Archangel, Deva, Toyama, Bolla, Purifier squad, and Shedu squad.
Hell, you don't even need Mechs in a Level II. three squads of Zombies, a tank, a Tengu Squad, and a VTOL is fine. So is a Level II consisting of infantry field guns and two long tom vees.
Angel Nguyen
>2 Karnov UR >no aircraft
read nigga
Ryan Gray
I play with people who REEE about most things that fly. VTOLs are the exception.
Jayden Allen
While I like most of your L3, L2 Foxtrot is out of order. Those kind of support vehicles are not usually counted among combat units. Foxtrot would be better served as a L2 of combat vees or even BA or aerospace assets. You can move the support elements out of general combat units.
Benjamin Wood
You make a very good point. I just have the minis and it's fun to include them.
Asher Kelly
Well, ok, there's always the "I've got the minis so fuck it" argument. Fair enough man.
Josiah Evans
It's the WoB, there's a decent chance they're suicide bombers or something
Lincoln Nguyen
You're right though, I should revamp it into BA.
Recommendations on suits and carriers?
Isaac Ortiz
Any act done in the Blessed Blake's name is righteous.
Honestly, I have no idea. I've had virtually no experience with BA. Pick some of the WoB exclusive BA and grab a few interesting vees to move them around (at least one heli too), that should get you a good way.
I'm looking into this awkward tangle of a game setting and I have some questions.
1. How much carryover is there between the hex-based board game and Alpha Strike? The box set of the board game comes with 24 minis and that seems like a good start to build on if they can be used for the wargame as well.
2. How many minis are in a typical game? Is it like X-Wing where you only need 2-6 figs, or 40k where an army is a three figure investment?
I realize this is a niche game even for tabletop these days but the four mech packs seem cheap enough online that I know I could get at least one friend into it if it was fun.
To be honest, female or post-op tranny, I'd smite that like it rose from the dead twice.
Kayden Price
The minis can be used and you can play it with low unit count
Gabriel Price
You can play just lance vs lance which is 4 mechs per team.
Colton Wright
Battletech IS the Wargame. Alpha Strike isn't some separate entity. It's dumbed down version of regular Battletech using the Battletech Miniature rules instead of the default hex rules. And the "Alpha Strike Minis" are regular Battletech minis, not even separate sculpts.
Regular Battletech you usually play 4-12 minis per side. Alpha Strike meant to be skeletal and fast for big battles is where you can crank up the mini count to 36+ for a short afternoon game.
Carter Thompson
>image Cropped porn, innit?
Hudson Scott
It's from a porn game formerly getting something like $15k a month on Patreon no less.
Cameron Hill
Tell me more.
Jeremiah Smith
Play as an oddly drawn guy as he bones his way through his neighborhood. That chick is a strap on wielding nun who likes to have her way with the neighbor's wife. It just got banned because there's incest content with the MC's mother, sister and aunt. Look for Summertime Saga.
Zachary Phillips
Oh okay, thanks. How much difference is there between the hex rules and otherwise? Is it just a matter of inches instead of spaces and terrain use?
Jackson Russell
By default, Alpha Strike is 1 hex = 1 inch. If you want hilarious expansion of ranges, go for 3 inches per hex.
Ryan Gray
>strap on wielding nun who likes to have her way with the neighbor's wife
Suicide nerve gas bombers, or suicide self nukers. Sounds about as exactly as retarded as the wobbies
David Brown
Battletech is a game where substitutions are generally accepted; local or table rules generally specify light for light, etc. I used to play with arrows and a name printed on torn squares from scrap paper taped to pennies - there are better options now.
Its also a wide-open setting where if you want something basically impossible like Islamic State driving Abrahms (sp) tanks, go right ahead.
Sorry, lost my last local player before Alpha Strike came along.
Jackson Walker
So how do I use all these dark age BA. The one that stands out to me is the Cuchulainn, which looks to be a strictly better Corona
Nolan Moore
In the vein of our other 'unfuck iconic designs that are actually pretty terrible' series if questions. The classic, basic marauder. How do you make it not suck? I know there are decent variants, I'm talking about the AC, ppc and laser basic version. /btg/ talks about specific versions being a billion times better, but how would you preserve its core mad-ness without just using a varisnt instead?
Parker Barnes
There really isn't much to do man, if you're talking Introtech. The variants cover all the bases. The base Marauder isn't even "actually pretty terrible"; it has one ammo bin, and slightly anemic armor for the era. And some heat issues, but that's par for the course in that era too. I'm honestly not sure what you expect. I guess a version like pic related hasn't really been done yet, at least not in that era. It seems like it'd do alright but you lose the "Marauderness" of the double-energy weapon arms.
>I'm honestly not sure what you expect. He's still in the "I can design better stuff than this" phase. Let him get his zombies out of his system and he'll grow up one day to play at the big boy table.
Justin Ross
I recognize a man's jawline...
Christopher James
What's this guy?
Blake Gomez
Ah hello Herbert. still sore about Thomas Hogarth are we?
Wyatt Jones
Yeah, we were all there at one point.
Have a random Blackjack for no reason other than I like to make Blackjack variants. This one is for urban combat/warcrimes.
which one specifically? I'm very picky about these guys. Western mech isn't my bag but there's a few I like.
Connor Allen
I was thinking a clam invasion etc. Era update kit? Lac5 with ap ammo and case? Light ppc's with capacitors? Ermls? Lfe? Maxed armour?
Daniel Bailey
The mini isn't representing an actual regular Archer. It's one from that Robotech Tactics thing, I believe, and repainted and used in a Battletech game as the old Archer was one of the initial machines used. That's why it has a dozen missile tubes per side torso versus 15 or 20 or something. Unless there's a canon variant that has a pair of 6's in each torso that I don't remember off the bat, that's about it.
Daniel Myers
Not even close, dude. It's an old 1/200 80's NIchimo Macross kit modded to have open doors and warheads. Which was actually sold as regular Battletech kits back before the metal mini line really took over. When people jaw about the TCI license, these are the original TCI imported kits that were Battledroids and early Battletech.
Is Megamek any good? I'm interested in Battletech but nobody in my area plays the game and I'm not really looking to be buying any more models right now.
That's the only way to play for me, no bbt clubs around here. Try MegaMek.Net once you learn how to beat up the bot if you are comfortable with 3025 era.
