Today we'll be reading Drifting Dragons. A manga about whalers who hunt dragons in their airship, the Queen Zaza. I'll dump the first two chapters and if anyone if interested I'll dump the third as well.
Feel free to have discussion in the thread because it motivates me to keep dumping.
No problem, thanks for storytiming. I really like the slightly loose style of the art here and the theme (fantasy whaling, basically). Also you're as much of an autist as I am about linking back posts.

2017 and still running in Kodansha magazine. It's on chapter 22 now. I believe it's a monthly manga.

Spoil me this. Does shit ever hit the fan in the manga or is it pretty comfy fantasy whaling all the way?
Ian Walker
The second volume just got translated I think, and from what I've read of it so far it's been pretty comfy. That's not to say shit doesn't happen, but there isn't an overarching plot or antagonistic force so far.
On the other hand, there are sky pirates.

More comfy whaling with the occasional mini-story arcs. It's like Dungeon Meshi meets Moby Dick. In the latest story arc, the crew is hunting a shipkilling dragon with a dragon biologist tagging along.
They also bring in some interesting stuff like leatherworking later on. I'd love to see it have lots of weird little craft things like that, instead of just all cooking all the time.
I mean japanese people try to justify this stuff to themselves by calling whales dragons because they're savages bent on exterminating as much of the natural order as possible.
someone started scanning the official English release but they skipped to 18 while the fan translation only got to 6

Meant to link Meant to link This is clearly based off of Moby Dick and mid 19th century American whaling in general more than anything, especially in later chapters. Stop trying to weave in modern whaling crap that no one cares about.
Maybe this is just a comic taking inspiration from the period whaling industry and presenting the characters as existing in and holding opinions from that time rather than a tract one way or the other. Just maybe.
On the other hand, you're definitely wrong that nobody cares about modern whaling.
I always figured that whaling was one of those nationalist safety valves, like bickering about islands that no one actually cares about, that stops Japanese Ultra-Nationalists from going full Mishima or whatever.
I wish they'd do like Germans and channel their national grievances into embarrassing techno, but here we are.

I know I'm going to get a bunch of >muh anime imageboard replies, but honestly this belongs on /a/. It's fantasy, sure, but it doesn't really have anything to do with traditional games.
>inb4 Veeky Forums has always been off topic Not really. Sure, a lot of Veeky Forums culture can seem off topic, but most of the "off topic" stuff we discuss either exists within the context of roleplaying/worldbuilding, or is connected in some way to a game. This doesn't really fit into either category, and doesn't belong on Veeky Forums
By the way OP, I'm not shitting on your manga dump; on the contrary, I'd actually love to see it on /a/ because it would improve the quality of that board
