It depends on the social hierarchy of the setting. It is always more common for females of the socially suppressed culture to intermix with males of the one with more social power. Males are slightly more wired for seeking out alien mates, and they suffer far fewer social consequences for doing so in most cultures.

Unless, I guess, you have elf and human cultures which are both entirely different from any kind of human norm, in which case there probably wouldn't be a "more common" pairing.
