So uh... maybe snakefolk can be the obligatory race that is obsessed with crystals. Hell, you could have a race of snakefolk with a full range of excreta that are all crystals. They sweat crystals, their body hair is crystals, they are constantly accumulating and sloughing off vast amounts of crystalline matter. Their homes are littered with crystals, made of crystals, carved FROM crystal. They would not understand why humans who collect their fingernail clippings are seen as weird because this is common sense, and every snakeperson does this because their fingernails are crystals.
Snakefolk still value precious gems and natural crystals like other races, they just have an abundance of their own crystals to work into lower grade jewelry and magical weapons. They have immense appetites to support their ability to continue crystallising matter internally, and they can go months without drinking water because they hydrate themselves as a byproduct of the crystallisation process.
Their general outlook on other races is one of considerable pity because these creatures can clearly understand how privileged the snakefolk are, having infinite crystals from their bodies, yet are pathetically left only able to steal them from others or dirty themselves in the earth looking for them.
