They are really old structures that are spread across the galaxy, they predate anything thats not the Old Ones or the Necrons and as far as Im aware only Huron Blackheart has one since the rest were destroyed by the Imperium and Abaddon.
Considering they also use warp stuff its probable they are Eldar or Old Ones weapons meant to be used by psykers or to simply channel the warp into a weapon.
A chaos tainted race tricks the tau into giving them their tech. Suddenly warp worshipping rat men with chaos jumping and high tech tau weapons enters the galaxy.

>What are the Blackstone Fortresses anyway? I thought they were completely new (at least, from our perspective) What? No. They've been around in lore since BFG, which was first released almost 20 years ago. In universe they've been around since the War in heaven. Speaking of, I've been suprised about the lack of discussion about the blackstone stuff. It seems like GW is setting up a rather major event, and I assume they plan on doing a campaign with it. What does everyone think about the developments regarding blackstone, and in a theoretical campaign, who would you all side with: the ad mech or the crons?

>Remember the Emperor is the only waifu you will every need This
I need 500pts of cheap ($-wise) allies for my 1000pts bananas. Should I get a Skitarii SC box, Primarines Dark Imperium half or maybe Betrayal at Calth box?
Serious question: how the fuck do we balance out hordes this edition without just making shit like space Marines cheaper? I'm honestly thinking that shit like IG/Gaunts and shit should cost like 8ppm and work up from there, but I'm afraid there may be too many core problems within the game that points alone could fix anything.
Dominic Torres
Skitarii. You need cheap bodies and marines can't really provide that.
2 threads ago we were talking a lot about the blackstone fortresses, you just missed it.
that also means that if blackstone fortresses are making a comeback, SO IS BFG!
Nathan Kelly
The tau will be corrupted by the Great Horned Rat and create a new faction of Spaven. Confirmed canon. My dad works for GW.
> I've literally never heard this before, and it doesn't make too much sense to me. If the Old Ones were still alive, why is the Silent King so concerned about them, rather than the apparently still alive and still SUPER powerful old ones?
Asher Green
It was nice of you to let your 4 year old paint your monolith
Lincoln Butler
Space, moon sized warp superwaepons. They exist in fluff more than 20 years, originally made by Vaul, now no one know who made them. There only were 6 in gothic sector, Abaddon managed to take 2, rest was destroyed.
Noah Perez
>What does everyone think about the developments regarding blackstone, and in a theoretical campaign, who would you all side with: the ad mech or the crons?
I like it, all these campaigns are a nice way to rebuild the setting and create new status quo filled with impending dooms that will never be resolved. I assume this will bring out more factions into the war and its possible the AdMech fucks it up somewhere and other parties are summoned (Like Angron and his demon boys or Russ since he's rumored to return). Personally I think this is perfect to bring forth the Dark Admech into the fray as they are also interested in all things techno-warp related and fucking the AdMech up is also their goal.
I hope we get more info on what exactly is going on in the Dark Imperium, yes Guilliman reinforced their weaknesses but they probably still cant see the Astronomican and a thousand worlds lost in darkness is great to see how they are dealing with other threats or who is seceding from the Imperium.
>laughing nids and orks >laughing custard banners The only ones affected by that would be cultists

>What does everyone think about the developments regarding blackstone, It's neat. will be interesting to see how they develop it. The possibilty of sealing off the great rift and I assume the eye of terror with it could be a really interesting way to develop the setting. It would represent a major blow to chaos, and spark a whole new set of conflicts, especially regarding the planets in the EoT. >and in a theoretical campaign, who would you all side with: the ad mech or the crons? I play both imperium and crons, and frankly I'd have to side with the ad mech on this one, even with my crons. Chaos winning doesn't benefit my army, and if chaos gets dealt a major blow, that only benefits my crons. Though I would probably just use my imperium armies, since it makes most sense for my crons just to not get involved and let a rival dynsasty lose forces against the imperium. I benefit no matter what the outcome

>teams Guess this is how my custodes team will look like
I grew up on a shitty reservation and ended up in a fight at least once a week and I can say that it was pretty euphoric at times, I'm in a better situation now but I can understand why some people chase that high

5 were destroyed, 4 of them were destroyed in the gothic sector and the fifth was used to destroy cadia. the sixth gothic blackstone fortress is in the hands of huron. But with the latest posting from the community website, it looks like we are going to be finding more blackstone fortresses.
and hopefully more Imperial Navy lore/ships/models for BFG
on units past 10 models allow damage spill over and lessen morale immunity buffs to +leadership instead
Isaac Cox
>it looks like we are going to be finding more blackstone fortresses. Nothing really seems to suggest that from the article. Also, I just thought of something: blackstone guns. bullets made of blackstone for killing demons, mini-blackstone fortresses for everything else
Basically, flank the sides with the gaunts swarms, plow down the middle with carnifexes and OOE, put the Exo and Tyrannofex in between for fire support. Lictor and Mucolid spores are cheap ways to fill out the Battalion, and they can take back-of-the-board objectives if my opponent only leaves a single squad to defend them.
Leo Young
Any Isha art?

>All synapse creatures are 10 wound minimum >Mob rule goes away >Banners give rerolls only
Also, rippers are good for holding backline objectives and blocking deepstrikes
I only use Kraken so that the carnifexes can charge every single turn and get the +1 to hit and +1 attack (because of Tusks).
The biggest weakness is a lack of synapse, but pretty much nothing is getting to those center Neurtothropes without a sniper (which I've been luck enough not to play against).

…a Blackstone Fortress?
>This is where things get complicated for the Imperium. Blackstone Fortresses aren’t just named that because of the colour – they’re crafted out of the stuff, hence their prodigious durability and strange powers. Constructed by forces unknown in the time before time, Blackstone Fortresses are the ultimate weapon of Chaos due to blackstone’s OTHER property.
>When polarised one way, blackstone stabilises the warp. When polarised the other, it amplifies it. It’s in this way that Abaddon’s Blackstone Fortress could project solid blasts of empyric energy and didn’t just absorb his summoned daemonic allies. While Abaddon may have used one of his Blackstone Fortresses to destroy Cadia (got a problem with some blackstone megastructures? Just smash them with another blackstone megastructure!) there’s still another held by the forces of Chaos, with Huron Blackheart having received one as a gift during the 13th Black Crusade.
>Well, this is where the War in Heaven comes in. Before the Necrons all went into hibernation sixty million years ago (or so – time gets a bit wobbly when the warp is involved), the Necrons battled the Old Ones, the first sentient beings in the galaxy, jealous as they were of the Old Ones’ immortality.
>Very little is known about this war (and most Overlords are too senile or insane to remember), but one theory is that the Necrons developed structures like the Cadian pylons in order to fight their ancient foes. Or maybe they stole the technology from their enemies and turned it against them. In any case, they seem to have left piles of it all over the galaxy – unattended – when they went to sleep.
>As the Necrons are now waking up, they seek once more to reclaim their territory of old, including their blackstone monuments and caches, for some grand and terrible work (grand and terrible works being any given Cryptek’s current craft project).
with the way AP works in 8th I don't see a 2+ save being an immediate nono in kill team
Zachary Martin
The fact that they can be built doesn't mean that anyone is building them
Eli Rogers
Times have changed my friends. One can hope that GW will not drop their big shiny release bois just like that and give use some alternative stats and shit
Kevin Ramirez
Who would you guys prefer to see as the fifth chaos god in 40k Malal or the Great Horned Rat?
The changes to AP mean a 2+ Save is less of a huge issue in Kill Team. Most factions have access to something that can reduce saves by at least -1 or -2.
Dominic Mitchell
They weren't nerfed, just constrained
Jaxon Moore
Maybe if they brought back battlefleet gothic as a specialist game I'd be interested but just more shovelware? No thanks
The Imperium probably doesnt have the means or knowledge to build more, but the necrons probably do.
>Apart from preventing the Necrons from doing… who knows what… with it, you mean? Well – the Adeptus Mechanicus has a plan. If they can gather enough blackstone (which happens to be located on many worlds already settled by these mysterious engineers – alongside awakening Necron tombs), they’re intending to build a network of new pylons along the length of the Great Rift, then switching them on – basically, like stitching a wound closed, except with a lot more chanting and potentially dooming the universe to annihilation by thirsting gods.
Since the fortresses can stabilize or destabilize the warp on command, they will probably be needed, especially with how dangerous warp travel is in the universe now
Why is GW so slow/hesitant to release updated infantry models for non-space marine factions? I've been waiting an actual decade for new Guardsmen figures
William Stewart
Chaos squats when?
Josiah Ross
>eldar are still more resin than not Marines are the poster boys, everyone else has to get in line
Liam Parker
But why would the necrons, who hate the warp, make a war weapon?
I imagine they'd just be ultra limited to like 3 dudes on the table at most whereas even marines would have somewhere around 10 guys on board.
Oliver Hughes
>as the fifth chaos god
Whoever is in charge of the Forge of Souls, its such an interesting point that there's a neutral ground that the gods dont bother but it supplies them with stuff for their great game. So there's someone there thats somehow part of Chaos but not of the pantheon.
Samuel Wilson
molds are really damn expensive to make. producing the sprues is dirt cheap but you need the molds and they cost well over 100k for each mold. you invest a lot to make a new mold and it doesnt sell, its a serious hit to your bottom line.
Henry Watson
They'd be pretty awful in Kill Team, as it's a numbers and mobility game. Although the new one might be different depending on how different the rules for it are.
Carter Hill
so that way you can destroy daemon planets. Abaddon was able to destroy planets with 2-3 fortresses, and could destroy entire solar systems with 4 blackstone fortresses. What do you think you could do with 5 or 6 blackstone fortresses working in tandem?
Gavin Thomas
Cuckstodes are still a dumpster fire both on the table and in the lore. I feel bad for everyone who bought into the meme army
