Futurism

How do you play in a transhuman or posthuman setting?
Who do you play, an AI, a cyborg or something else?
What questions do you have about possible technologies, is mind upload murder, how can a autosentient person be happy and how did you survive a war in which death is merely an inconvenience?
Where do you play, what are your factions?

I recommend Isaac Arthur's video to learn more about futurism and related concepts.

But I don't want to be a cyborg
my mom gave me this body!

Like this

Attached: interesting_cybernetics_psychology.png (1184x282, 70K)

Why would the neural links have to warm up if they're connected to your flesh? They'd be body temp.

If they're not hot enough to burn chrome they're too cold.

That's pretty gud, if you choose to be a cyborg optimized for war you should consider the disadvantages. You are now a weapon of mass desruction, you will not live a civil life anymore.

That's why nanoborgs or cellular cyborgs are the best cyborgs, as their augements are more subtle, they may not have the brute strength of a full-body cyborg but atleast they are treated as nomral human beings and not as a sentient bomb.
Also you can easily suit up and your augments help you to keep up with the speed and you aren't as frail as a unaugmeted human.

Attached: cellular cyborg.jpg (802x536, 68K)

Warm up is used as a figure of speech. It means to start up because the links are disconnected during sleep.

Transhumanism and posthumanism are for the upper less than 1% of the population, not you, NEVER you. YOU get to live in a barren shithole surrounded by monkeys who despise you in a giant favela.

You play it the way it will be in real life; people like soros rotheschild and gates have transhuman-y stuff, you don't and short of becoming a real live ultra-rich less than 1% of the population, you will absolutely never have any form of transhuman anything.

Transhuman immortality superbeing status is for the upper way less than 1%, not you, serf.

You are beyond doltish if you think the real world elite would allow anyone below themselves to have any form of transhuman anything, and if they did, it'd have some (((trickery))) involved so that can kill-switch you at the push of a button when you're no longer of any use to them or they simply don't want you around.

People said taht about cars, computers and mobile phones. Sure first the rich will get that at fist but in time everyone will get it. The benefit of it is too great to be ignored.

Also good for me I am part of the 1% of the globlal population.

Cars computers and mobile phones don't extend your lifespan by 10,000 or more years and allow you to shoot lightning bolts out of your asshole.

I would also like to add: who is pushing for transhuman technology? The rich? No, some nerds in institutes, if transhuman technolgy get wider production it will be quite like the history of the computer. First a project of scientist nerds, then the military got it hands on it, then the "rich" and today 80% of the world's population has a ciomputer with a processing power greater than all computers 50 years ago.

Still there might be the possibility of abuse. But that's not a fault of transhuman technology but a fault of society and only by political means such abuses can be prevented.

I think you overestiamte the pace of transhuman technology. It will be a more gradual and subtle process.

The upper less than 1% do whatever they want all day every day. Your "laws" have ZERO control over them, and the only way you're going to be ABLE to control them is by burning their mansions and stabbing them to death.

How are you going to do that when they're 100% better than you at everything and in every single way?

The endgame of transhumanism is the same endgame as Zionism; the upper less than 1% control everything and everyone, the remainder of the population is a homogenous brown slave mass who is literally bred to be to stupid to successfully revolt.

I want /pol/ removed from Veeky Forums.

I want shameless lying snake shill leftist hung up by their testicles and skinned alive.

But we don't always get what we want, do we?

In my setting, mind-uploading always creates imperfect copies. They lose memories or skills, develop different personalities, no longer believe their related to the original, or just go insane. Its more frequently used as a punishment than anything else.

>punishing a conciousness that did literally nothing wrong

What's your setting?

People don't always think rationally. In their defense, it generally only for really emotional, heinous crimes like mass murder or treason. The assassin of a great Emperor was once forcibly upload by his heir, who kept the degenerating mind around as a pet.
Romantic space opera based on the French Revolution. There's a cold war between an alien democratic federation and an alien empire LOGH-style, with recently uplifted humans on the side of the federation. There's a lot of nationalism, racial and ethnic tension, and undercurrents of political and social revolution. The spread cyberpunk technologies like robot arms and ubiquitous personal computers are the setting's industrial revolution, and the driving force for economic, social, and political change.

Futurism? Someone should have asked google before naming what he was doing, because we do have some prior art here. Manifesto and all. Stressing the art part in prior art, as it was largely an artistic movement. And the whole thing is, well, not always something you'd want to associate yourself with, unless perhaps you're aiming for the well honed edgelord demographic.

>We want to glorify war - the only cure for the world - militarism, patriotism, the destructive gesture of the anarchists, the beautiful ideas which kill, and contempt for woman. /.../ we are issuing this manifesto of ruinous and incendiary violence, by which we today are founding Futurism

Transhumanists become gods, groom everyone else to reenact the Siege of Troy for their amusement.

Did anyone ever play in a setting that portray's deep time. A quintillion years in the future.

>implying the transhuman elite won't just exterminate the rest of humanity
The moment we have the means to fully automate all industry and service jobs, the elite no longer needs the underclass.

When you're dying from exposure to an engineered bioweapon, take comfort in the knowledge that the world is better off without you and a new golden age is dawning in which resource scarcity has finally been solved by removing 99% of the consumers.

The worthy (those with the most capital) become "immortals" that war against each other over the galaxy. The unworthy (the other 99.99% of humanity) are purged because they're not needed anymore. The barriers between synthetic and biological, digital and physical, are removed. The ability to obtain and store energy is what matters. The Joule is the new dollar, as these "gods" desperately seek to stave off or reverse the inevitable abyss.

>edgy sci-fi Troy

I'd run it.

>the rich won't let anyone else have transhuman goodies

Like what, they're just going to keep the process a secret forever? Not how things work IRL.

The free market... uh... finds a way.

Attached: 15175291329.gif (460x598, 661K)

It's like saying the rich wouldn't let anyone else have smart phones. People keep finding a way to do it cheaper to undercut the competition, and eventually it gets cheap enough that everyone can have it. Also using human enhancement as a lazy metaphor for class inequality and other social issues is done to death. Wouldn't it be more interesting to explore how ubiquitous cybernetics or organ grafting would shape society instead of everyone basically being 21st century urban poor people except the 1% who are LITERALLY GODS

Transhuman Space may interest you as it is set 100 years into the future and has the most realistic and worked out approach on future tech showing the benefits and its downfalls.

Dont know if this counts, but Ive been toying with the idea of a post nuclear apocalypse campaign featuring kobolds as a newly sentient race circa 20-40 years after mankind’s extinction

No, literally nobody has ever played in a setting like that. You are the only person who has ever conceived of that idea.

Numenera was supposed to be that, but ended up being D&D with more chrome

I try fucking not to, because featureitis is a real issue for those sorts of settings.

Issues like are there, sure, but in a setting that isn't 'i swear this is shadowrun despite it cutting out everything that makes it different from cp2020', those are generally taken care of because it's transhumanism not cyberpunk.

That said, Eclipse Phase I like, even if 2e is going to be an utter disaster.

You’re delusional or jewish. Either way you’re not fit to be called human.

Cry fucking harder, dipshit. You wanted realistic discussion about how this tech gets spread, you have to deal with OBJECTIVE TRUTH. Or maybe you’d like to tell us that the best medical procedures are available to homeless people right here, right now. Right? That’s totally how the world works, isn’t it? Sunshine and fucking roses. Don’t forget to take your daily blue pill. Goddamn subhuman retard.

Could someone explain Magmatter to me.

They'll let you have it, but the stuff you get will be loaded with tracking devices and kill switches. The living will envy the dead.

>you have to deal with OBJECTIVE TRUTH
Not saying I'm disagreeing with your perspective, but please try not to consider your worldview as a perfect reflection of the real world.

Don't feed /pol/. There are several dangers that could emerge from transhuman technology, but he ain't interested in that. Those dangers are fun to play with, they can make up for a adventurous settings. He only wants to sperg about the "rich" and the JEWS. Ignore him.

>Don't feed /pol/.
Won't do.

What are the main drawbacks of super intelligence? Assuming my PC remains in a human body and retains a mostly normal psychology after being augmented

Countless versions of everybody who could ever live hangs out with Jesus in Paradise.

Depends on the augmentation. Higher IQ won't hurt but if you increase your thought speed, you have get some serious psychological consulting.

>What are the main drawbacks of super intelligence?
The depressing realization that /pol/ was right all along.

God I hate modern comics.
They don't even really draw anymore, its all just tracing 3d models or slapping a shader onto it.

The questions are: What and when?

What: Are you getting new senses to boost your perception, higher neural connectivity for faster thought speed or merging with a cyberbrain? The more fundamental the change is the more you differ from baseline. Still you have to work for your mental, potential doesn't mean use.

When: Did you have your augmentation since birth or did you got a shot of nanomachines inside your brain. Maybe you are a AI and rewrite your own code as it fits you. Experimentation is the key, some will be successful others not. If we knew what we are doing we wouldn't call it research.

Not that far in time, but there is the entire genre of dying Earth with the sun burning out, the Earth dying, and the last remnants of technology being magic. It's quite funny to think that the "magic" is Vancian magic, the original magic system that D&D took inspiration from.

>A thunderbolt is a beam of gravitational wave singularities which destroys the universe as it goes. As it propagates at the speed of light it is undetectable, and as it destroys space-time it is irresistible.

All is but shadow, and aspect-Shiva destroys the great illusion.
The path to Truth lies through the Keeper, and when all is known all will be lost. The towering edifice of successive crystalline realities fail inevitably when their substrate is consumed.
And the ultimate essence of being, upon which all others are built, collapse as the Paths are foreshortened and the branches of the Nexus wither and die.
As the Eye focuses inward upon itself and sees reality for what it is as the ultimate nothingness, so shall fall the leaves in thunderbolts of dissolution, and thence the branches of the tree shrivel and shard the universe unutterably.
And all attachments are shed in the death of everything.

Its not about that, its about what happens after 200-500 years.
The old isn't dying, the newborn have to mature before being teched to immortality.
This creates a situation where as immortality becomes normal, its not "denied" as much as its given a marked price: 50-100 years of medium labor.
If its compatible with cybernetics without any real issues, cybernetics will be the cheaper option.
So basically after some point:
-80-90% of the original population converts, and stop having children beyond rare cases
-The remaining 10-20% of the lower classes fail to secure themselves the tech, and need to have children for the sake of pension, a social life, and income. This turns into expendable workforce, or settlers of terraformed planets.
After 500 years, the Antediluvians will have gained a slight increase in population, but not by much.

In what universe?
In something like GUNM, immortality is not out of reach, but it also means the eccentric middleclass will stop working at some point.
Immortality trough cybernetics and nanomachines is one thing, a different thing is android replicants. In both cases, you use the idea behind Theseus ship to complete the transition without any ideological dilemmas.
Transhumanism by immortality is by itself worth little, and can be given freely. Advanced cybernetics to stop deaths by bleeding/vacuum is a different beast, and is far more expensive.

>In what universe?
The real one.

IRL we are still at the stage where life is given by diet and environment.
Surgeries are limited to what organs can be reached, in a sterile fashion.
There is no "super drug" to live longer.

If something is too expensive to give out, you limit the amount of work cycles it can do. Self destruction after use falls into this category, usually via battery ignition into plastics.
Kill switches is a entirely different thing, and hasn't seen real world usage outside of attempts at controlling digital tools.
Fatal drug dependency is a thing, if you are referring to that: Where user will die of organ failures if medical supervision is not given during the de escalation period, to allow the body/liver/blood to compensate down to zero levels during the periods of half life.
And that covers kill switches. Unless you physically destroy a object, it can be data mined/examined.

>Tracking devices
Since heat powered electronics isn't a thing yet, tracking devices have a limited life cycle.
Even less so for implants, and anything that would go on the body. Even something like a GPS chip will unpower in half a years time, for the human body.
For physical devices, unless the device gets enough power to have satellite communication, its basically not traceable unless it has a exotic usage of radioactive elements.

Remember: The topic in the quote chain is transhumanism, and how class segregation will affect the spread of the tech.
Unless you can give proper RL examples, featuring lifespan products that amplify nartural lifespan by more than 10 years, where would the tracking and kill switches go?
Because the future will be like today.
“And the future never comes.
What comes is always here now.”

youtube.com/watch?v=MjdpR-TY6QU

Weren't scientist at the SALK successful at rejuvenating a rat so that it had like 30% increased lifespan?

We have figured out that it is not one thing that makes us grow older, decay, and day. There won't be a silver bullet, but a series of treatments that will increase our lifespan possible without limit.

>Senescent cells
>NAD+
>Stem cells
Assuming this enters the general human population by 2030, this is marginal fixes that increases productivity and might severely increase pension age.
Assuming there are no real roadblocks, this is things that will separate first and third world countries, where scale of subsidiary effort will make first world citizens more productive by aging less towards 40+.

I would also add: This is informative, but that has nothing to do with the statement
>but the stuff you get will be loaded with tracking devices and kill switches
What has been listed is things that will end up as mid life vaccines in nations with functional health programs, simply because it costs less than dealing with healthcare for the elderly.

Attached: Head_of_a_barbarian_Athens.jpg (515x660, 211K)

The upside: your Ego(personality/memories/“you”) is effectively immortal, since making new bodies and having Ego backups are standard healthcare provided for everyone. The only reason you would ever fully die is due to body-death coinciding with a server outage that wipes your backups.

The downside: “provided for” does not equal “free.” New bodies are expensive, and suffering body-death is going to put you in a lot of debt to the companies providing it- and odds are you’ll have to either take risks or become permanently-employed by your provider in order to not get your everything repossessed. Also, just because backups exist doesn’t mean they are constantly updated- you need to plug in to update. If your spaceship or whatever gets blown up, you could lose anything from a few hours to days to several weeks. And just because you don’t remember that time-span doesn’t mean you can’t or won’t be held accountable for whatever happened during that period.

For "what might have been" check out General Electric's Handyman Project from the 50s, then follow up with the Hardiman (a robotic exoskeleton project that was never stable enough to test using a human).

Does your mother love you or does she love your body?

user, with the kind of attitude he has his mother doesn't love him or his body and no amount of robobits will change that.

This desu. A near total majority of people were going to die anyways without transhumanism, and unless you plan on indoctrinating them to live in sustainable, non-cancerous ways with their newfound post scarcity, uplifting them would just exacerbate the issue.

>this meme again

Ego/mind backups are not you. They are entirely separate entities that are exceedingly similar to you, and perhaps even indistinguishable to outside entities, but internally, you are only the current, continuous ego.

Uploading your mind state and then being blown up, putting that mind state into a new body, will not ressurect you. It will create a new "you" that believes itself to be you, lacking all memories after it was uploaded, but the you "you" will be dead. Your ego's continuity was broken, you've gone to oblivion, that instance of intelligence is terminated, do not pass go.
There is no "soul" that links all similar minds with all other similar minds, and you are not defined just by the specific meat/silicon that makes you up, nor just the pattern and structure of that meat/silicon, but the continuous, ongoing process of that meat/silicon. Stop that process, and you die.

>"this meme again"
Oh, it's this meme again.
Lemme guess coma's, minor brain deaths, unconsciousness of any kind, and sleep magically don't apply to this line of thought nor does the fact your brain actively edits and misremembers memories the instance they happen to save on space so maybe 70% of your active and continuous recollection is "factual".

I think the only viable methods of mind upload would be the one's that are proposed in OA.
orionsarm.com/eg-article/46f96b4be3e8d

>Lemme guess coma's, minor brain deaths, unconsciousness of any kind, and sleep magically don't apply to this line of thought
They don't, but not because of magic, but because there's still neurological processes occurring continuously.

>nor does the fact your brain actively edits and misremembers memories the instance they happen to save on space so maybe 70% of your active and continuous recollection is "factual".
While true, this has no bearing on the fact that you are still "you" only if the processes which support intelligence/though are continuous. You misremembering things doesn't make you any less you.

A thought experiment. You upload your mind perfectly to a backup, as if you were about to die, but you don't die, and then you put that uploaded mind into a new body. There are now two of you.

Which one is "you"? To any outside observers, you're identical, but it'd be obvious to the original "you" that they're not magically gaining access to the mind and senses of their clone, nor is the clone of you. If the clone suddenly died, his ego wouldn't shunt into your head, nor would your ego suddenly shunt into his head.

Through this very simple fact, it's fundamentally obvious that egos/persons are "local" to the substrate that they're housed in.

The idea that creating separate backups will preserve you in any meaningful, subjective sense is dependent on the idea of some immaterial soul; it's utterly ridiculous.

Agreed; fundamentally, there needs to be "bidirectional" thought for any transfer in order to preserve ego continuity. If we imagine a mind as like water or some fluid, and the brain as a vessel for it, then just "pouring" the mind into a new vessel doesn't preserve continuity; the new mind in the new vessel can't communicate back to old mind in the old vessel.
However, if we consider simply connecting the two vessels and siphoning the mind from one to the other (at whatever speed) while the new mind can talk to the old mind as the latter is transferred to the former, then continuity is maintained and death does not occur.

Go get eclipse phase and just read it.
