Should a god of winter be evil?

Should a god of winter be evil?

No. Winter is.

Not in a world where the summer sun is so brutal it causes worldwide conflagrations and drives the people below ground just to survive.

No more than the god of summer or the god of autumn. Both harm people, both provide.

Well, she is, so yeah.

Is Persephone evil? Even in her earlier incarnations as the iron maiden there was balance. The cold embrace of earth and snow, and the warmth and growth of spring. The promise of new life at the winter solstice.

Depend of the setting.

Nah, just gruff and a pain in the ass

Depends, winter can be season of rest, that time of the year when the harvest has been collected and you can finally put away the plough and all the drudgery of tilling the field. Where families gather and tell stories and make merry.

Or it can be harsh AF, the harvest failed, you agonise over the children starving and those distantly related family members who came over hoping you had better luck stockpiling food than they did begin to look more and more like food themselves as the snows pile high and the frigid winds keep you all trapped together for unending nights on end.

Basically winter is like a chick, definitely chaotic, whether she's good or evil depends on the time of day, the colour of the sky, the phase of mood and how correctly you answered the last question she asked you.

Nah, he should be pretty chill.

God of Winter should teach his subjects to be self-reliant, hardy and strong, and he should be a very harsh teacher

Cool joke.

For what reason?

>You can’t grow crops?
What of cultures that actually live in the arctic and do great getting their nutrients from hunting?
>You can freeze to death?
That’s just poor planning and dressing wrong. If you dress in coats during the summer you get heatstroke. Is summer evil?
>frozen hellscape
Deserts

No, winter is a natural process. This is like saying the quiet guy is evil because you’re comparing him to his outgoing brother: summer. It’s just different flavors.

>encouraging people to work together to survive
>encouraging long-term planning
>annually killing off pests and parasites
A god of winter would be good.

No. A god of winter wouldn't have time to screw around with people. The only thing he would care about is his season

In general, it doesn't make much sense for any god of a natural thing to be evil.

Only to those invaders from beyond its domain.

How does autumn kill people?

Winter is civilization's friend.

Slipping on fallen leaves and breaking your neck against the sidewalk. Choking on leaves. The ents get pissed when they see you naked and maul you to death.

People can suffer from hypothermia caused by rain, too, not just snow.

>slipping on dry leaves

Bears get hungry, desperate.
Its also a season of rot and mold.

Dry season brushfires
Every carnivore trying to get fat before winter comes.
Dying trees dropping branches.
Mushrooms infesting your grain silos.
Bandit attacks as they raid your harvests.
Fall is bad.

To be fair, though, bandit raids are usually the worst in spring. Every peasant's larder is near empty because they ate and drank all winter, most of the crops haven't even finished coming out of the ground to sprout, let alone harvest, and some of the lazier critters haven't even woken up yet, so the bandits fill the fricking bear-free woods and jump your caravans.

>Fall
>Dry

naeh, but can be.

>Winter for a good reason
Gives the meek and clever a chance to rest as many predators die while the clever live on their storage.

Where I am spring is the shitty rainy season. Fall is literally the comfiest season.

gravity

No, it's not.

Amoral gods is best

No. Praise ullr

I feel like nature in general should be ruled by neutral deities. But I could understand winter as an evil entity as well.

Yes, it is.

No but they should be cool.

he should be cold, pun intended. Not evil, just apathetic to suffering.

Winter IS coming and its up to you to survive it.

I suppose he could be neutral evil but true neutral seems better fit.

Same here though even our summers are pretty mild.but springs anymore are a shit show of heavy rains and floods.

Winter should be a stirn but fair father figure. Not good or bad really, just out to teach you a lesson or two.
Optionally add general winter in as a side god or militant aspect of him.

/thread

If only winter could kill the big businessmen and bankers who parasitize civilization.

Not evil per se but certainly not relateable. I'd go with cold, calculating and dispassionate and doesn't care for life.

Summer on the other hand is vibrant and passionate but also would see their reign last forever and scorch the land into a lifeless, burning desert.
You need both.

Depends on how people deal with him. Any god can be "good" or "evil" if people can't handle his shit.

What do priests and paladins of winter do?

Yeah, no winter means swarms of mosquitoes only get larger and larger. Just one winter that was too mild allowed a previous years swarm to live mostly and the summer was hellish and disease spiked
