Anyone have any really cool, unique ideas for items? They can be anything, weapons, armor, jewelery, treasure, magical things, etc.
Although I'm specifically looking for natural monster drops, like furs and bones. Animals on earth sometimes make weird stuff with their bodies like ambergris and pearls but i dont know many others.
Well think about what kind of creature it is then what properties it might have. Like whale skin clothes or bat hearing aids
Easton Wright
you could always make a Dire Bear that when harvested could result in a number of magical pieces parts. just some ideas that come to mind
>Fangs that prevent the magical manipulation of the wearers dreams >Claws that can tear through stone like water >Leather hide that automatically regenerates itself if made to clothes >Fur that absorbs fire and channels it into a burst of adrenaline >Bones that can be mixed into metal to form more resilient weapons and armor >Blood which if mixed into warpaint grants magical buffs like enhanced strength, fearlessness, or possibly tracking abilities on a favored enemy >Meat that makes a consumer full for three days after a single bite and doesn't go bad for months
Liam Perez
>unique
Is there any word that more clearly identifies a newfag?
Parker Sanders
>Knife Bug >It's a wasp-like bug >With a knife for a stinger >It can fly when you throw it >kills enemies for sugary treats
Elijah Russell
do you really have to insult someone trying to have a good time and get advice for their game? i mean come on, what are you, 4 years old?

Musk Sacs. Basically some animals have this great smelling sack of pheremones which smell like Raspberries or very perfumey. Found in Musk Deer and Beavers for example.
So remember Red Raspberry Frogs and Musk Sticks you're eating someone that once was made out of Beaver Ass and Musk Deer respectfully.

I've been coming up with a Necromancer staff that uses severed hands drawn into shapes and poses to channel out specific spells. Leads the necro to carrying around a bag of smelly hands, which can get awkward.
Samuel Moore
this is a really cool idea for a world where magic is limited to the amount of movement your hands can do. There was a part like this in the Magicians book where magic was limited to finger movements but there was a character who added an extra finger on each hand so he could do much more powerful spells than the rest could
Asher Roberts
Thanks. I got the idea from LotR, when Gandalf puts that lightstone onto his staff in the Mines. Thought about what would happen if you put different things up there, and what kind of mediums different magics would need.
Isaiah Davis
Insect carapaces and clam shells have often been used for making the most brilliant dyes before synthetic dyes became a thing. Silk is made from the fiber from the cocoon of a larval moth. The hide of any monster with a high natural DR would make for good armor. Various folk remedies rely on certain body parts of animals and in a magic setting could very well be highly effective. Some magic item crafting systems have fielded the idea of using the parts of monsters as catalysts or key ingredients for crafting.

>Fangs that prevent the magical manipulation of the wearers dreams Neat.
>>>Leather hide that automatically regenerates itself if made to clothes This is the sort of lowlevel gear I like to give my players.
Carter Young
Here are a few I'm planning on throwing into my game They are still a work in progress, advice is always welcomed.
Mind Slug: Insert the larva into your ear and it will attack itself onto your brain in a matter of weeks. After a short period it will grow to full size. Once this happens the host will gain +2 to int and -2 to wis.
Tome of the mad King: The tome whispers words of madness to its owner slowly driving them insane and granting them power in return. Once attuned the owner will begin to see odd beings and hear faint incoherent whispers in their dreams. The book's power grows as the user does, you may cast two spells per-day from this book without expending a spell-slot. At level 5, 10, 15, 20 you gain 2 additional spells to cast from the book per day, you can only cast up to your highest spell slot. While attuned to this book your judgment is severely impaired as you touch the mind of the mad king, you have disadvantage on all Wisdom skill checks and saving throws. At the start of each long rest, roll a d6. On a 6, you suffer the effects of the dream spell nightmare effect.
Possible Spells Spell level
1st Dissonant Whispers 1st Tasha's Hideous Laughter 2nd Crown of Madness 2nd Mind Spike 2nd Detect Thoughts 3rd Bestow Curse 3rd Hunger of Hadar 3rd Fear 4th Confusion 5th Dominate Person 5th Dream 8th Maddening Darkness
Tome of Foes: Place a drop of a creatures' blood on a blank page and gain information about them including but not limited to Weaknesses, resistances, immunities, vulnerabilities, natural AC and attacks and common biomes.
Bag-O-Bees: It's a bag with bees in it. Just shake and throw for a 15 foot radius of non-discriminating stinging. 1d4+1 when a player starts and ends their turn in the radius.
Jace Ramirez
>Basilisk tooth that naturally secretes venom even after the beast has died >Electric gland of some creature that produces bright light when agitated >Salamander tail that can be squeezed to shoot out flammable oils or lit like a match >Tick/leech that feeds on blood borne diseases rather than your blood
Wyatt Foster
Think which parts of monsters can be used as materials by craftmen.
Lincoln Myers
>The Infamous Ring of Spider Seduction >Equip Bard with this >Go to Underdark >Meet Lolth >Have him seduce her when she's in one of her spider forms >Gargantuan boost to seduction when the target is a spider or is related to spiders (like Driders) >Lolth seduced >She finally becomes less of a bitch
Oliver Brown
I basically wanted an alternate form for a Dreamcatcher, and it makes sense to me that Dire forms of animals might have a component towards that end.

I'm just going to post a bunch of pictures of loot that I have saved. Quality may vary.
>Gourd of Dragons Fire Fill it with water, then take a swig. When you spit it back out, it becomes a breath weapon equivalent to that of a mature dragon (the type is dependent on the color of the gourd). Drinking the water does nothing, but the water is always warm when it comes out of the gourd, despite what it's original temperature was.
>Soulserpent (name suspected but not confirmed) This mace has Soul Trap, and every time an appropriate soul is trapped within the mace one of the six gems lights up. Legend has it that when all six gems are alight, the guardian spirit within the mace will appear and grant the user any rule-free wish they desire. However, this has never been confirmed as the mace appears to have some kind of "pattern" for the types of souls it wants: if the mace is used to kill a creature without the desired soul, the gems dim and the process must be started over again. Currently, the only portion of the pattern known are the first two souls: the soul of a kobold (any gender), followed by the soul of a female elf.
>Tinkerers Star Maddeningly perfect, nearly every portion of this puzzle box can be moved and changed: doing so locks the box. When locked, the box cannot be opened by any physical means (attempting to smash open the box triggers a poison dart trap engineered into the center of the box, which is kept magically refilled), though a successful unlocking spell can unlock the device given enough time (though many users of a Tinkerers Star place it in an area with other defenses). The most infamous instance of this device is the Star used to hold the phylactery of Sygoz the Machine-Souled.
>Little Helper Often employed by merchants in less moral cities, these brass figurines become flesh and blood equivalencies once their trigger word is uttered by the owner. Each living Little Helper is about the size of a small child, and is unable to speak any language. Despite this, they are intelligent and loyal enough to follow orders given by their owners. If a Helper is killed when it is alive, its body disintegrates into brass dust. Despite their disfigured appearance, Little Helpers rarely attack anyone without provocation; the primary issue owners have with new Helpers is the mournful howling emitted every so often after transformation, though these howls can be trained out of a Helper with enough negative reinforcement.
Blue Dragon essence: Once per day as a bonus action activate this talisman to use a breath attack based on the color of the talisman.
Ruby Heart
Phylactery of Twelve: Twelve ancient liches banded together to create a Phylactery of immense power. Only when all Twelve are dead at once can the liches are dead can the Phylactery be destroyed.
Estus flask: Take a sip to spend and recover 2 hit dice
porcelain mask (locked): you gain proficiency in performance and can cast disguise self as a cantrip
porcelain mask (un-locked): You gain expertise in Deception and can cast Dominate Person once a day. If unlocked the user must make a will save DC 15 or be controlled by a malicious spirit for 24 hours before locking the mask. The spirit will often throw away valuable items while trying to go unnoticed.
Cicada: While the cicada is on your person your thoughts are encrypted and you are immune to scrying and any spell that would determine your alignment or actions.
Ian Watson
for got one Ruby Heart: Equipping this item will give you +2 constitution and give you a continuous stone skin spell effect. To equip this item you must remove your heart and replace it with this item.
If the heart is ever removed the former owner dies and can not be revived with anything short of a wish spell.
Dylan Taylor
it looks like the head of a Ji, a Chinese weapon something like a war pick meets sickle. a wooden shaft would be attached and bound to it with those holes and you'd try to hook and cut or swing and stab with it. This are obviously fancy display versions made of jade or something

>fists of hanuman giant wrought iron gauntlets that protect fists and forearms powered by hanumans fabled rocket, theu can be fired out at great speeds destroying anything in its path it can then be commanded to return back to your arms
>breastplate of helios a large wrought iron breastplate emblazoned with an emblem drawing on the power of the sun as an energy source, it can be made completely indestructible resisting even powerful spells and ballistae bolts however the heat of the sun builds up in in the armor and would eventually kill you the heat is stored in the emblem and if nit allowed to cool off the armor may explode violently the emblem may eject all heat in an instant, creating a cone of pure heat reducing anything caught within it to slag
>helm of the rust beast a large protective helmet it channels the power of the rust beast into a potent but inert fluid once the reservoir is filled, it may disperse the liquid via a gust of hot air out the frony of the helm this activates the liquid and causes any metal it touches, with the exception of noble metals , to completely dissolve into rust within seconds 1 cubic meter of steel may be reduced to dust within only 10 seconds
>mask of the death gaze a fearsome iron mask that hides your face it can fire a deadly radiant beam out of its eye sockets with only a thought it is pin point accurate due to firing precisely where you look
Yes how about an intelligent item that is "sleeping", making it appear like some ytinket they might be equally likely to keep or sell depending on situation.
If they keep it you can begin introducing it to the wearer and open up story options in the way of the item's agenda.
Or if they sell it have a story arc down the road where it was sold or stolen and now the intelligence is busy working on whatever it wants and inadvertently causing problems in it's wake.
Well done intelligent items have always been fun plot devices
Man this takes butterfly knife to whole new levels.

nothing more clearly identifies a 'newfag' on this board than someone shitting up threads and trash talking people for no reason like you are.

>Hatebringer Helmet Created by the mad tyrant Mordak in a fit of insane creativity, when placed upon a mortal humanoid's head these helmets physically alter their victims into becoming Hatebringers, monstrous berzerkers with pallid grey skin and razor sharp teeth often used to tear an enemy's flesh from their bones, loyal only to Mordak. As the helmets fuse with the bodies of their hosts, the only way to remove a helmet is to kill a Hatebringer, which results in the body crumbling to dust and leaving the helmet unattended. Fifteen of these helmets were originally made; currently, only twelve exist, the other three having been destroyed (one by Dorian Werth, head general of the Calarian army who destroyed it in the Battle of Nine Rivers; one by Algox the Foul, an elder black dragon who accidentally destroyed it after trying to reverse engineer the magic for his own purposes; and one by Mordak himself, who destroyed it after the associated Hatebringer failed to capture the Calarian king, Algius XIII). Of the remaining twelve, only eleven are in use: the final helmet is said to be reserved for King Algius XIII, though given Mordak's swinging moods this may not be his definitive plan.

>J'Kitas Egg When the gods deigned to create mortal life upon the world, the existing inhabitants did not take the transition lightly. These monstrous quasi-deities banded together in a last ditch assault against the gods in a hopeless battle that we know today as The Fall, and in this battle most (if not all) the primordial entities perished under the unending wrath of the divine. However, not all of the old beings influence has been lost on the world; indeed, several contingency plans were created by the more paranoid of the primordials. Among these were the three "eggs" of J'Kita the Wicker King, large spheres that contain monstrous spawn able to destroy monumental amounts of civilization in a frighteningly short amount of time. It is believed that these eggs with hatch if bathed in enough blood, which is precisely what the Ancient Sins cult is hoping to do, as it perfectly rectifies the "mortal mistake" the gods made eons ago.

>Jikadi's Pretender Stone of Vitality A Pretender Stone fashioned in imitation of the true Philosopher's Stone. Jikadi was a famous alchemist, who, while well respected, eventually came into ill health. Terrified of leaving this world when there was still more to learn and entering his conflux, the sum of all a person's knowledge and the afterlife for Alchemists, Jikadi set it upon himself to fashion an artificial heart that would grant him indefinite longevity and vitality, and so he did. However, like all Pretender Stones, the heart was not eternal, and every 108 years he would need to recharge it through accursed means...
>Falsegold Cubelet A strange chunk of meta-powered mineral harvested from the wreckage of a collapsed fragment. It was originally sought after for its power to turn anything to gold, especially by alchemists, who saw it as proof the Philosopher's Stone can form naturally, only for it to turn out that it doesn't change anything about objects it affects other than their color. While not quite valuable, it could be useful in the department of trickery... or simple fashion.
>Death's Head Imago A disturbing framework of a Death's Head Moth made solely from metafabric. Peddled by a mysterious woman who once visited the mighty and prosperous sphere of Baran, it was claimed to have the power to resurrect the dead, but in different form. Though these tales may simply be falsehood, there is an equal possibility they may be truth. It would seem the only way to know for sure is to test it...

>Heart of the Collector In the lonely, locked fifth tower of Galandi Castle, an unusually intelligent golem made of clay wanders the halls. Called "The Collector" by those who know of it, it is said that the golem was created by the youngest Galandi son, a talented artisan who sought to create true life with his art, complete with faults and insecurities. Of these, the Collector was his finest (and final) work: a creature who knows only loneliness and misery, for nothing can fill the hole in it's heart. What he did not expect was the golems reaction to it's plight: it chose to collect creatures to keep itself company, starting with it's own creator. Now the Collector stalks the Calarian woods at night, hunting down unwary travelers and capturing them to add to it's collection of souls. It is believed that only way to destroy the Collector is to remove it's heart from it's body, thereby rendering it inert.

>Wizards Cipher A handy tool often employed by magical researchers, these multi-use ciphers contain several common cryptograph keys for various ancient languages as deemed necessary by the creator. Interestingly, the first Wizards Cipher was not made, but found in one of the legendary Dead Vaults of Kursoor, and only became widespread after a successful reverse engineering attempt by the Kursoor Tinkerers Guild. Because of this, it's rumored that there are other Wizards Ciphers hidden in the world; realistic suggestions include ciphers for partially-translated languages, but more fanciful accounts suggest the presence of an enormous Cipher capable of not only translating all known mortal languages, but also translating deific and demonic languages (which, if true, could concievably include the fabled Dread Infernus, a language that would give any mortal incredible power over demonkind).

>Cascan Snowflake
An old Cascan cornerstore trinket made valuable with the Land of Eternal Winter having been buried under several tons of ice. While easy to imitate, true copies are near impossible due to requiring very specific knowledge of Cascan thaumics and possession of several high-quality ice gems. The real articles invariably have a strong heat regulating enchantment on them, ensuring a comfortable personal temperature anywhere from the depths of Kryona's Maw to the blazing fires of the Caldera Great Forge.
>Starwarden While an exceedingly rare and valuable find, this semi-magical star map is nigh useless to anyone without the ability to traverse the stars. However, observing the star patterns allows one to determine exact timeframes for specific celestial events, even from the other side of the world.
>Transfer Claw A somewhat common tool for artificers in the resurrection and death dodging business. While usually, a specific stand would be attached to the nubs in the center, this is fully operable by hand as well - it's just not as accurate. Channeling mana through the device turns the claws incorporeal, and glowing runic on the claw sides allow the claiming and moving of souls between two to four different targets. As might be expected, this is often used to transfer one's soul to a golem in order to cheat death.
>Galactic Clock A creation of the Mad Mage Alastor, this clock acts much like a Starwarden. However, a specific switch under the base will allow the user to set a specific time using the time setting knobs, after which the clock begins to show the solar system and full time cycle of the target area, based on the time set. Alastor believed rituals could be enacted based on celestial conjunction alone, and attempted to perform a thus far unknown ritual from a far away world using the clock as a tool.
Julian Sanders
>Starstorm Brazier
A rare relic of a bygone civilization of astrologists who could predict the future by looking at the stars and calculating specific timeframes. In those bygone days, the brazier's astrolabe could be set to show a specific celestial conjunction, which would show a listing and details of each event under that conjunction in the flame. Today, however, it shows events from a timeline in which the star sky isn't marred by solar winds, and the brazier is simply an interesting, but ultimately useless curio.
>Fern Crown
A common sight after fey celebrations, Fern Crowns are the discarded crowns of forest fae, closely tied to nature and boasting an increase in healing and druidic magic aptitude. However, these crowns were discarded for a reason - prolonged use will run down the crown's magic reserves and begin using the wearer's lifeforce as fuel instead.
The Four And One Spheres
A set of five foci inteded to be carried in the wooden box until use. There used to be four, but as the Newborn God, Akachariot, ascended to the pantheon, the Goddess of the Reapers, Celeste, was exiled and her dark blue focus was replaced with the small, green focus of Akachariot. In addition, there are also the bright, light blue focus of Elsanueva, Goddess of the North, and the bejewelled focus of King Gladmir, the Crowned One. Each focus can be used for direct communion with it's respective god, but use of multiple foci is ill advised, and under no circumstances should Celeste's focus be used in the presence of the other gods.

>Shards of Emperios, First Blade of the Jade Titan Few legends hold more captive audiences than the tragedy of the child hero Noll, who defeated the Jade Titan in combat by tricking the Titan into stabbing itself with it's own jade saber by holding onto the Titans chest, thus killing himself alongside the Jade Titan. What many audiences do not know is that while the Jade Titan did crack and shatter to tiny pieces, his saber only split into five large but fully intact shards. These shards have since been scattered to the winds, with the only known fragment being held in the national museum of Orbalos. These fragments of Emperios display ever changing hieroglyphs depicting the life of both the Jade Titan and the child hero Noll, as well as a unique scene that seems to depict the five fragments reassembling themselves, followed by the resurrection of the Jade Titan holding his sword in triumph. Because of this, efforts to reclaim the missing pieces has been halted, though rumors have surfaced of a kobold tribe to the south raiding villages in search of the shards, with their leader carrying two shards in a crudely fashioned crown.

>The Thot Smasher Basically a magic imbued mace that deals bonus dmg to female targets, its bonus dmg depends on how many men they tried to seduce and/or how many men they had sex with. Also it has a protection spell for virgin targets, so it wont inflict any dmg to them.
>Philosopher's Hammer Once a user has managed to slay 100 intelligent creatures and absorb their souls with a Wisdom roll the hammer gains the ability to cause minor transmutations on crits.
>Chromatic Greatsword Normally this sword looks mundane, but a spell cast on the sword can be absorbed causing it to glow with different colored pulsating light. The spell can then be cast using the sword as an action.

>Weekender's Charms A set of two small triangular stones, one red and one black. When one is placed in the mouth of a living person and the other is placed in the mouth of a dead person the living person is able to control the body of the dead person while the charms are in both of their mouths for up to five minutes.
Here are some that are cursed, but can still be used:
>Helm of Smite Evil (5e)
On your combat turn, you may roll 1d6 instead of performing your basic attack. On a 5-6, you may cast Destructive Wave at 5th level at any Evil-aligned creature within 50 meters for full damage. On a 1-4, you take Destructive Wave’s full damage.
>Helm of Speak Alignment (5e/AD&D)
Before donning this item, choose an alignment (other than your own). While wearing this item, you can speak, read, and write ciphers of your chosen alignment. Roll 1d6; on a 5-6, you retain your original alignment; on a 1-4, your alignment changes to the one you chose prior to donning this item. This change can only be reversed by a successful Wish spell.
>Rings of the Twin Minds (5e/3.X/PF)
Before donning this item, choose one other player character in your party. You may use that character’s bonuses on all skill checks and vice versa while wearing this item. Roll 1d6; on a 1-4, swap character sheets with that player. This change can only be reversed by a successful Wish spell.

Another item for ya:
>Foehunter (5e/4e)
This is a +4 two-handed weapon of the DM’s choice. Before attacking, choose one enemy creature. That creature is Marked and receives 2 points of extra damage per successful attack made against it. You must attack the Marked creature each combat turn or become Stunned for one turn.

Robe of Masking >While attuned to and wearing this robe, the wearer can raise his or her hood to immediately mask themselves, causing their face and body to appear as if cloaked in shadow. >It is impossible for any being to discern the wearer's features except through divination magic, even should they attempt to touch the wearer. Instead they will feel a smooth featureless surface where the user should be. >In addition to the effects mentioned above, the robe's magic masks the user's voice, making it difficult for others to discern the wearer's intent when speaking. Any being making an insight or perception check against the user has disadvantage on the roll.
>Thunder Dragon Idol At first glance, the little gold idol looks like it is. A small gold idol. Nothing special. Just like hundreds of other idols. However, when one holds the idol longer than a moment in his or her hand, then the holder will feel enormous power coming from it. This is because this idol was crafted with the addition of blessed blood from a Thunder Dragon from the farthest lands of the East. Those who have this small idol with them will never fear death from being struck by lightning or anything electrical. In fact, the idol will instead cause their wielders to absorb the energy, energizing them in the process to the point that they could throw knights, in full plate armor and riding a fully armored horses, as if they were tiny ragdolls.
