Bloat drones in progress. Almost done now, only the technical details - mostly blood, bile and finer rust - are left. After that it's tuft and pigments for the base and we're finally finished.
It looks very similar to the Storm Wardens, unless that's what you're for?
Easton Price
Not too fond of the blue aquila on the bolter. Other than that it looks good - of course it depends on the paint job, because bright blues tend to look flat if you don't use proper highlights.
Ryder Hall
basically done with Cawl. hellish amount of fiddly bits and details.
>hellish amount of fiddly bits and details. I looked at picking up Cawl just to paint. And then I decided that it looked like raw overpriced frustration in a box. I know it's the aesthetic and all, but there's just too much shit on the model.
Hudson Ramirez
Just out of curiosity, do people here prefer the Primaris marine redesign or the classic space marine look?
I'm more inclined to like the classic marines, but primaris do look pretty good. As I play Horus Heresy primarily, classic marines are my only real option, with my personal favourites being MkIII.
Justin Wood
How did you make that base? it looks great.
Luis Lopez
kitbashing primaris proportions with classic marine weapons/accessories is my preference
I'd prefer a simple upscaling of the original marine rather then the new Primaris design.
OG Master Chief versus the Halo 4 cancer tacticool design.
Colton Harris
They're alright but really fun to paint I'll give em that, game wise I've only had use for Hellblasters and Inceptors.
Elijah Turner
I really dislike the primaris redesign. It's (canonically) non-modular and I hate the re-issued maximus-looking helmet. They could have invented something new.
The only bad thing about old space marines is the stupid pose with the legs bent. Straight regular marines look the part, but instead GW decided to make everything bigger so 40k isnt 28mm anymore.
I'm pretty assblasted they decided to make a new thing and say they're bigger instead of just making truescale marines and saying Primaris are just the new mark of armor.
GW modeling sand primed black, drybrushed several shades of grey (less then 50) and then some pigments, washes, grass tufts and scale modelling bricks. I do all of my admech bases like that.
>RIP Duncan edition why would you say something like this user, you legit scared me there for a sec
James Carter
The basic armour is nice, even if I don't care for the chunky power packs.
The helmets can go and stay go. Primaris are immediately improved by headswaps.
Aaron Long
Is it just me or are the primey marines arms kinda stubby
Parker Murphy
Chads are objectively better in terms of proportions.
>I'm pretty assblasted they decided to make a new thing and say they're bigger instead of just making truescale marines and saying Primaris are just the new mark of armor. Pretty much.
Isaiah Price
The problem with this is that if they replace the old marines, people will no longer buy the old Space Marines, instead of buying the old space marines AND the primaris. That way people still pay for the old space marines. This is all to make money. They want to sell new marine miniatures without people stop buying their old marines, which cannot be done if the new things just outright replaces the old ones.
Liam Gonzalez
Really awesome looking eyes, i love that idea. Cool to see them in white too, havent seen that before
Kayden Price
i like this purely for the fact that it must trigger a bunch of people if you used this in heresy games.
Nicholas Parker
Those eyes are genuinely unnerving
Bentley Fisher
99% done except the flag, which i have 0 ideas for color (so i just went with a generic army green)
Kabalite Green I imagine? That's a dark green turquoise.
Joshua Myers
Don't go eating any horse shit if you win any BB tournies now
Ryan Bennett
looking at the colors i'd say incubi darkness coelia shade kabalite green
Sotek greena and temple guard could work too, but i think they lean more towards the blue spectrum than the reference.
Kayden Brooks
what's good color to edge highlight doombull brown??
Christopher Torres
So I decided to try my hands on some converting. More specifically trying to make a squad leader for my XV15 Stealth Suits that could also be taken as a Shadowsun proxy (my firends are quite liberal when it comes to proxyig). I'm quite happy with the result, considering this is my second conversion ever. I should of course have been more thorough with cleaning up the parts, and the dust will be removed once I'm done with that. Now it's just time to decide what type of base I'll use for him and if he'll need some more clutter on his armor.
My friend lost his army a while back and gave me all of his spare bitz as we both payed Tau, so this was really just me having some fun with said bitz.
I love the warhammer 40k artstyle so much but why do have to do their last stand on a pile of fuckin skulls ?????? what is even the reasoning behind this just put em on a rock/cliff/thingy and be done with it
James Morris
Thanks guys!
I'll try not to
Jacob Nguyen
>Tau having helmetless leaders Pride is the ruination of both warriors and kings, shas'la What did you use for the chest? Don't recognise the pentagon. Some more clutter could work. Right now his arms seem overloaded compared to the lack of bulk elsewhere - maybe something to widen his jetpack?
The colours definitely work well, nice job so far!
Dominic Diaz
>but why do have to do their last stand on a pile of fuckin skulls ??????
It's an homage to John Sibbick's painting that was the cover of the First Edition Rogue Trader rulebook (and the Bolt Thrower album Realm of Chaos). The original is, as you describe it, just a rock cliff thingy.
If you haven't noticed that everything in 40K is skullz, skullz, 'n' more skullz ... you must be one of those Tau degenerates.
To his defense most of his subordinates are helmet-less and prideful as well. They'll probably get reeducated soon enough.
It's an Ethereal torso with the insignia filed off. The perspective makes the weapon look even larger than it is, although you are completely right regarding the arm looking overburdened and scrawny. I'll see if I can solve that somehow. I was thinking of adding a cable to the back like the XV15 suits have or some kind of exo-skeleton made of antennas or something.
Xavier Harris
Ah, not familiar with the new ethereal mini >I was thinking of adding a cable to the back like the XV15 suits have or some kind of exo-skeleton made of antennas or something This sounds good - just something to bring the mini out in other directions that aren't the gun & shield
Jordan Clark
>Tau having helmetless leaders Have you looked at the tau? squad leaders typically go without hats, ethereal caste often go without armour at all, and the head commander of the entire fire caste doesn't even use the fuckin helmet for her stealth armour.
Anyway, they all seem good, except a load of them have bristles like this, where they come to a good point, except there's maybe one hair sticking out a bit. When you load paint on it makes edge highlighting pretty awkward with it sticking out in front of the point.
Genuinely just clip back to the others, trying to tweezer it out can disturb the other bristles and ruin your point.
John Smith
Finally done painting my first squad. Pretty pleased with how they turned out but there's a lot to improve too. Anyone got any hot tips for improving? I'm doing some khorne berzerkers next.
Learning how to use the airbrush on this bad boy, I felt that i actually got better as I went along, and backtracked to cover up some mistakes. I'll be able to start on the brushwork soon. Whaddya think?
(sorry about the quality, my camera focus is acting kinda crazy at the moment)
This looks fucking beautiful and is >a e s t h e t i c I also love how fucking heretical it would be in a heresy game like said These are the first primaris that I have seen that I havent hated.
Nathan Morales
AAAARGH the moldines on the neutron laser
Anthony Rogers
I love the colourscheme, keep us updated
Ian Harris
i'm new to painting(used to paint some LOTR warhammer 9 years back, but i was absolute shit, didn't know what washes were, etc). why do people put minis in fridges?
Robert Gonzalez
The white walls of refrigerators reflect light very well, giving models a very even illumination all around.
Grayson Morgan
My papa. Swapped the weapons and gave him a tummy nurgling. The head is a combination of antler and cyclops.
Testbed Reiver for my Minotaurs using assorted bits. Lots to do still, cleaning and sanding, but I'm pretty happy. My only gripes about the bits are the hand on the shield interior is a weeee bit big, and the sword is an almighty bitch to get seated properly. Should look good when I get the squad painted up though.
I enjoy how they look but I like them less than regular marines because the kits are more restricting, that's the only reason though. Kitbashing is still fun and easy though
Parker Morales
do u notice the XX on them user?
Isaac Lopez
No. Neither did I, neither did you.
Jaxon Campbell
It's more that they didn't want people burning their now "invalidated" space marine armies. So many people were freaking out online that their marines might not be as big as the new range. Despite this happening every time there's been a new marine range. GW should have told these people to neck themselves and just given us true scale marines.
Its been a meme for a while. Duncan could be caught painting the dead DE prostitute models with thick coats, a messed up brush tip and no agrax earthshade and GW still would cop a shitstorm if they got rid of him.
Cameron Moore
Looks great for a first squad - your paints need to be thinned a little, and maybe pick out some details on the weapons (add some blue to the top of the plasma pistols etc.) in order to make them stand out more
Hudson Brown
This. The primarine kits look great, but they're very monotonous, GW couldn't even be bothered to make their £20 sergeants and "limited edition" veterans a bit unique. Mixing mark 10 armour with older models is the way to go, give them studded pauldrons and shit.
Grayson Mitchell
Throwing together a grot mega tank over the weekend, anybody got some decent recommendations for long tank tracks that wont break the bank? I've been looking at a bunch of revel and other scale halftracks but honestly without seeing them out the box it's hard to gauge a decent scale.
As a life long Bird's fan, go with the Kelly green, white and silver scheme.
Josiah Nelson
I think the models are fine for what they are- but the whole of the fluff surrounding them is just dumb and an excuse to put more space marines inside space marines. Same shit different slightly bigger toilet.
Hudson Lopez
How would I go about making a palico mini?
Grab a dwarf or halfling mini and replace limbs and head with a cat?
iirc there were like, mouse guard minis you might be able to check out and convert. They were metal, though.
Landon James
I'm okay with working with metal minis.
Are they oop?
Cooper Long
looks like they might be under bones. they're also a little pudgier than I remember so they might not work
Isaac Lewis
I suppose if I wanted to try converting up the bulkier palico armor sets, possibly but I think I might experiment with halflings and dwarfs.
Any idea where I might be able to find cat heads and limbs that would match nicely with the scale halflings/dwarfs?
Ian Turner
Hey /wip/, got my coldstar in the post today, with the new codex. Think I'm finished modelling and priming him, what do you think of the fusion blades? First reply gets to pick what colour I glaze them.
>stripping and repainting tau God I know that feeling too well user >Tau are first army, started when I was 12 >First two dozen fire warriors are abominations against man >buy new fire warriors to replace them >new edition drops, no more Enclaves using crisis suits as troops >codex comes out, now you need 5 billion fire warriors >guess I'm using the old ones too then They give me physical pain when they're on the table.
Aiden James
I think the orange on the groin piece is a bad idea, with how it lines up with the thigh stripes it makes it look like he's wearing a big orange belt which separates him into a super long torso and stubby little legs.
