Kamigakari is a JTTRPG focused on episodic storytelling, with simple but tight mechanics. Its design goal is to start players spread out, getting involved with the episode's peculiarities, and eventually coming together to fight a big bad, A la tokusatsu shows, magical girl shows, and/or other such shows in that vein. It can handle just about any kind of character, though, not just those types.

TL;DR, Its a Monster of the Week Format game with an emphasis in the fluff on high power shenanigans of just about every type.

Todays Question:
>If you played a contractor, what kind of mononoke would you use as a familiar, assuming they were all balanced, or scaled in power appropriately?

Misfits in Osaka part 12 is complete and Part 13-17 Are all up and viewable on the Imgur for anyone that missed them.

shit nigga, that pic is just right

realtalk, i'd either play Type B, or do Type A, but pretend like i'm a stand user with a Humanoid mononoke

Two discord links might be a bit much

I'd do similar to except I'd take a mechanical one and make a medabot or busou shinki

How solo-able is Kamigakari? Need something to do in my downtime and my schedule won't allow me to play any kind of regularly scheduled game.

Solo-able? Like playing by your lonesome?

Yup. A couple jgames work well for it, Meikyuu Kingdom and Golden Sky Stories.

I suppose you could set up scenarios where you fight monsters alone. The game's not really build for that, though. Sorry, it's a neat game otherwise.

How reliant is it on team dynamics? I have enough random scenario generators to choke a horse. but if the combat encounter math assumes X players of Y parameters, that's where things get hinky.

Balance might get a bit finicky, but I'd say doable. You don't need specific setups to handle situations. The game doesn't assume a number of players or specific classes present.
Also, be nice to the horse. No choking!

I'll give it a shot then, and report back monday or so.

Also, the horse is a dirty Uma-no-ashi. It deserves it.

I hope you have fun!

>two discords might be a bit much

Honestly, the JTTRPG one was never really a good place for it. There's a few people there that like it, and it was good to use for getting groups ready, but otherwise it was never ours to start with. They are pretty cool dudes, but thats their group.

The kamigakari one is specifically for kamigakari, and also acts as a tool for me and OCR user to translate things more efficiently without waiting on thread. I just left the JTTRPG one up in case people were interested in it.

you wouldn't be the first stand user i've seen, and you probably won't be the last.

But god speed and good luck to you, good user.

Feel free to ask any questions you need to dude. a few things can be a bit weird and finicky.

On the topic of Translating stuff, there's still a bunch of crunchy stuff we can get out of MG so we're gonna linger on it a while longer before finally moving on to True regalia.

and i'm here to post these for a bit

Attached: Misfits in Osaka Part 15.png (1868x1546, 304K)

And the next part. Next ones gonna be a couple hours.

Attached: Misfits in Osaka Part 16.png (1868x2168, 415K)

Toss me some ideas for a short game.

Newly awakened godhunter has gone mad with power and needs stopped before he does something irreparable.

Ancient exhibits in the museum has been slumbering for a thousand years and a day, and now they've woken up to cause havoc once again.

An Aramitama has possessed the engine and steering of a train and is planning to crash it with no survivors. Its trying to get people into a covenant of souls and will then choose a point to purposely go off rails.

Its your job to stop it, somehow.

And thats the last one i got for now, till another user decides to storytime.

I don't have time for it today, but if people are interested in the touhou storytime i started way back when, i've got around 4 sessions worth of stuff. Its all a little basic and not very in-depth, but thats just how it ended up playing out.

Remember when I said the next session would be shorter? I lied.

"The Jagasaki-san Rival strategy meeting!"

Ito had called together a gang meeting at the B-kun family estate. Specifically, inside its dojo. B-Kun is acting as host, Jagasaki is lazing around in his human form and Akira (Male) got dragged along by Ito as a temporary member. None of them have any idea what this meeting is about.

"It's simple - we need to root out the strongest guys in Osaka for a challenge."

Jagasaki already thinks this is a huge waste of time, and he certainly wouldn't be here if he had literally anything else to do right now. Ito continues with his explanation - they're going to spread rumours about Jagasaki being super strong and looking for a good fight, and this meeting is to decide how to do that.

"What makes you think that anyone interested in local gossip would be worth my attention?" Jagasaki (and everyone else, really) is skeptical, but Ito insists its fine. All they have to do is start some BIG rumours and they'll spread like wildfire.

"We tell people, you took down the Yakuza bosses and kicked the Onigata family out of Osaka. We say something like, hmm..." Ito thinks for a bit. "Yeah, the Megane gang did that, and Jagasaki-san is their top enforcer. They call him the undefeated Demon King of Osaka. Something like that will DEFINITELY get attention."

"The attention of more weaklings. Do you remember how easily we defeated them?"

Again Ito brushes off these concerns - once they wipe out a couple of weakling groups, they won't come back and stronger guys will show up. Obviously, that's how it works. "We'll even tell people not even Ito Daiichi has beaten you - which is true because we've never fought. So there'll definitely be someone who wants to see that kind of person." Ito of course thinks this is a big deal.

Jagasaki sighs. But if only to alleviate some boredom, "...Fine. So how do we begin?"

Attached: jagasakihuman.png (455x608, 43K)

Ito and B-kun bounce ideas off each other for a bit, none of which sound very viable until Akira chimes in. He suggests posting out a challenge - claiming a territory and demanding everyone within it fight or leave. Ito falls in love with the idea right away, and decides to draft up some wanted posters for effect. Jagasaki objects to making posters, as he still has to walk around town. B-kun starts scribbling down drafts for the challenge letter while Ito lists off various delinquent and Yakuza hideouts they can deliver the letters to.

"Hey, what territory are we claiming?" B-Kun asks Ito.

"All of Osaka!" Ito declares. "I challenge any who dares to face me in single combat, and will crush those foolish enough to try". Ito lowers his hands. "Something like that. B-kun, you're clever you can handle the details."

All of Osaka? This sounds like a pain in the ass to Jagasaki, since he doesn't want to have to keep swatting away scrubs who want to take a shot at being famous. He had more important things to do, like figure out why the TV is broke, and pick up the new Shounen Jump. Ito doesn't slow down though, and insists that it's better than hunting more weakling Aramitama. "Hunting more what now?" B-kun looks confused. Whoops, forgot about the non-godhunter. Ito tells B-kun not to worry and just to start handing out posters. And make sure not to give one to Shizune. B-kun gathers up his notes and heads off to assemble the challenge posters.

Small side note - Ito up until this point Ito always called Shizune "Mitsuki" - this is the first time he's called her by first name. Nobody present makes anything of it, though. And speaking of Shizune:

Later that day Shizune is off doing her weekly grocery shopping, trying to make the best of a small budget and Jagasaki's hunger for ice cream. Nanatsume invited herself along, insisting she needed to protect her "lord". She looked ready to draw a sword at any moment.

"Aren't you a bit too tense, Nana-chan?"

Attached: B-kun stands for Best Boy.png (480x280, 93K)

"It's customary for a samurai to be on guard at all times, Mitsuki-dono." Nanatsume answers as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. By her logic, since Jagasaki is currently indisposed, it's only appropriate that she replace him as escort. Though she does wonder where Jagasaki might be? Shizune is unconcerned, since she'll know if he gets too excited or starts using magic. Besides, he can do as he pleases as long as he's not breaking anything. She's not his mom or anything.

"Come to think of it, I'm not even sure if I'm doing this whole 'master' thing right. I just, tell him when it's a good idea to go all out or hold back. And I buy him ice cream from time to time." Shizune goes a little deep into thought.

Nanatsume looks confused "Is Jagasaki-dono not your retainer?"

"Of course he is! Sort of. He's sort indebted to an ancestor of mine... so he pays the debt by serving me... or something like that" Shizune tries to explain. But even she doesn't really know all the details about that. "Really, what does it even mean to be a retainer these days? This isn't a jidai geki drama."

"Does this mean I am doing this wrong, should I be lounging around myself while eating unhealthy amounts of frozen dairy?"

"... no, you're fine. You're more than fine as you're doing"

"Still, even if being a retainer has changed in time, shouldn't you be the one eating the ice cream?" Nanatsume confronting the real issues here. But before we can explore this complicated relationship any further, something catches her eye. Nanatsume stops, reading a poster which has been plastered up on the Dotonbori bridge. It's complete with a surprisingly well illustrated manga-esque portrait. The poster reads:

DEMON KING JAGASAKI S TAKING ON ALL CHALLENGERS IN OSAKA, AS HE IS THE STRONGEST AND MOST BAD ASS IN ALL THE REGION

Attached: Jags.png (580x580, 318K)

There's a list of made-up accomplishments in the name of the "Megane Gang", including taking down several Yakuza bosses and kicking the Onigata family out of the city, with some contact details at the bottom. Nanatsume peels the poster off the wall, and turns around. At a quick glance, there's quite a few similar posters stuck to various buildings in this part of Osaka. Nanatsume slowly looks between the poster and Shizune.

"M-Mitsuki-dono, you are the head of the Megane gang right?"

Shizune replies with a sweet smile, talking the poster from Nanatsume's hand,

"Nana-chan... Be a dear and destroy any such flyers you find in the city, will you?" The poster catches fire and burns to cinders. "If it is your will, Mitsuki-dono!" Nanatsume leaps to action, eyes sparkling as she dashes into the city and begins tearing down posters one after the other. Shizune watches her go, finding her mental connection to Jagasaki. She inhales sharply.

'JAGASAKI, WHAT THE HELL ARE THESE POSTERS'
'THIS WAS ITO'S IDEA WASN'T IT'

*****

Jagasaki stands across from ten very angry looking gang enforcers who just entered the dojo, walking and now standing in formation. Ito is babbling down his ear about how the first part of the plan is a success. He pings a response to Shizune.

'I said no posters!'

'WELL THEY DIDN'T FREAKING LISTEN. WHERE ARE THEY RIGHT NOW?'

"Ee don't look too tough baws" comes a voice from one of the thugs.

'We're at-' Jagasaki barely glances at the gang. 'B... Kun's Dojo.'

'I'M GONNA GIVE THOSE IDIOTS A... B-kun has a dojo?'

'I'm as surprised as you are.'

'Never mind! I'm picking up your magical signal, I'LL BE THERE AS SOON AS I CAN'

The crowd is starting to get rowdy, so Jagasaki finally acknowledges them. He asks them to skip to the point and send out their toughest fighter.

"We're the strongest gang this side of the Dotonbori river, you don't deserve to fight the boss."

Attached: delinquent_gang.png (1024x658, 296K)

Jagasaki looks down at Ito. "You see what I was talking about?" This is exactly what he didn't want to deal with. The various gang members start puffing up their chests and posing as they introduce themselves. "WAN!" "TSU!" "SURI!" "FOU!"

"I don't care." Jagasaki interrupts. "I won't remember your names." The gang looks furious at Jagasaki's lack of respect for gang etiquette. One near the middle yells, "THERE ARE RULES FOR A REASON, ASSHOLE."

Jagasaki takes a dramatic step forward. "I am a king. I make the rules."

"You know what, forget the formalities! Clearly this guy don't understand the first thing about gang battle etiquette!" The gang charge Jagasaki all at once, beating on him with fists and weapons - only he's not budging. Jagasaki stands there as the attacks bounce off him. One of the gang members actually hurts his fist punching Jagasaki's jaw. He allows this to continue until it stops being amusing, then in a single swift movement grabs one by the wrist. The other gang members simply collapse unconscious. "What kind of trickery is this? That ain't fair!"

"Not fair? You sound like a child. When I let go I want you to stand perfectly still, do you understand? I have a message for your boss."

"B-But I AM the boss"

Jagasaki grins. "Even better." Jagasaki's palm strikes the man in the tip of the nose. Even though the attack was restrained, the boss is still sent flying and crashing into the opposite wall. Jagasaki takes a seat on the floor, glad it's not his dojo to clean up. B-kun watched the whole fight with a pale face, and asks Ito if it's really wise to be a rival gang with this guy. Ito shrugs and says his rivalry is with Shizune, so there's nothing to worry about. However they do need to start shifting these scrubs outside for phase 2 of the plan - let them run away and tell everyone about how Jagasaki cleaned the floor with them. Ito grabs a pair by the ankles and starts dragging them out. "They'll wake up eventually. I think."

MEANWHILE - Nanatsume is off still tearing down poster. With no witnesses around, she draws her sword and uses a masterful swallow-cutting technique to shred several at once. "That's 123, good lord how many of these did he make?" Nanatsume says; not that she isn't enjoying having orders to fulfill. As she approaches another poster, there appears to be someone already eyeing it. He seems to be a salary man at first, but Nanatsume can instinctively sense something off about him. The feeling is something like an illusory barrier, something she has felt before, so she focuses on trying to see through it. In her mind the veil peels back and the mans true form is revealed. From his style and posture he's certainly a kind of samurai warrior, but also something else.

"Well... That's where you've been hiding, all this time?" The man chuckles to himself. The poster in his hand burns a bright purple as he walks away in the direction of B-kuns estate. He Nanatsume a passing glance, and in that moment she understands he is someone extremely dangerous.

*****

It's a short while later when Shizune arrives outside the B household. She steps around a pile of unconscious bodies - it seems that in the time she took to get here, several more gangs showed up and were swiftly beaten. She marches straight into the dojo.

"WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING" She waves at the piles of thugs "Actually, I apologize; YOU WEREN'T FREAKING THINKING" She yells at the room, but specifically Ito.

"Ah, that happened pretty quickly. I thought you were busy today?"

"Don't try to play dumb!" she says, pointing at the delinquent. "Dumber to be more precise. What was the point of all this? What did you want to accomplish by sending people to fight Jagasaki?"Jagasaki himself seems to be napping on the floor nearby, content to let Ito be the focus of Shizune's wrath.

Attached: Nana-chan original.png (2450x3600, 1.52M)

Ito for his part acts casual about the whole situation. "That WAS the point. We're looking for a good challenger. The pile of bodies shows how well THAT went."

Shizune is livid. "Why the hell are you looking for challenging battles here in Osaka when we're going to the Other World in a couple of days? Did you seriously think there was anyone powerful AND belligerent enough to fall for this dumb scheme? Furthermore, what even IS the point of fighting people for the hell of it? No, actually, let me correct myself: WHAT IS THE POINT OF SENDING PEOPLE TO FIGHT SOMEONE ELSE FOR THE HELL OF IT?"

Ito just shrugs. "Pff. It won't take a couple days to sort through this trash."

"THAT'S NOT THE POINT!"

About this time Nanatsume peels through the door at speed, breathless. She looks like she'd been running at full sprint for a while. "Masters, I am here to warn you all of a mysterious figure who I believe is heading to this very location right now." She says between breaths. "He was dressed like a samurai, he... Didn't feel like an Aramitama. But his presence was familiar. It's a similar energy that radiates from Jagasaki-dono."

This gets Jagasaki's attention. Ito seems interested, and tells Nanatsume to sweep the scrubs away from the door so this samurai can walk in. Nanatsume takes that quite literally, grabbing a broom and shoving the riff-raff out of view. Shizune sits and slumps on the floor. "...I really hate Osaka."

It doesn't take much longer for the stranger to arrive. His salary man disguise melts off as he enters. Jagasaki jumps from the floor to his feet in moments. "Finally!" The stranger introduces himself as Jigokumachi, and comments on Jagasaki's childlike human form. Jagasaki says it's for convenience - but he doesn't need it now, does he? He takes his original form and the two divine beings stand across from each other at full height. Jigokumachi seems amused, while Jagasaki seems... Happy?

Attached: jigokumachi.png (580x580, 83K)

"Okay, context here... Do you guys know each other?" Shizune asks. Jigokumachi glances at her, then back to Jagasaki. "A higeshima? After all this time? Isn't this a bit sentimental of you?" Jagasaki flashes full of anger. Jigokumachi comments it was merely "business". There's a rising killing intent in the air. That's beside the point!" Jagasaki snaps. "Your sins go deeper. Much deeper. If I had known you were still alive I would've dedicated all of my waking effort to tracking you down." Jagasaki starts leaking a deep crimson energy, and across from him, Jigokumachi is radiating a smoky purple. "To think that you would show up like this...out of the blue. I couldn't be more happy!" Jagasaki's body begins to creak and reshape - his fangs longer, his hair colour deepening. His armor warps, changes, reshapes and gilds itself in regal white, black and gold. The regalia of a true demon king.

"JAGASAKI KURENAI HAS ARRIVED!"

Shizune and Ito prepare a battle stance, but Jagasaki demands they stay out of it. Nobody was going to argue with him right now so they stood back and let them have their duel. Jagasaki makes the opening attack, a streak of pure red energy - all force, no showmanship. It tears a bloody chunk out of Jigokumachi's shoulder, but it should have done much more. Jigokumachi crouches and retaliates with a spinning strike, it sinks into Jagasaki's shoulder but it loses a lot of it's force just piercing his aura. Jagasaki places a hand over his rivals heart, blasting him with crimson energy that arcs through the whole body. Again the attack seems only a fraction as strong as it could be, but it gets through. Blood drips from Jigokumachi's mouth.

"That look suits you." Jagasaki grins.

"Funny," Jigokumachi spits, "I think you look better in red!"

Attached: Jags 2.png (480x480, 214K)

The two continue to trade blow after blow - waves of extreme energy and power blasting holes through each others defenses. It's been a long, long time since Jagasaki had to go all-out against an opponent - an experience he's sorely missed. Jagasaki keeps Jigokumachi on his toes - the samurai has to pump all his energy into defending now as he's pushed back. He has a hungry look in his eye - with a swift draw of his wakazashi he stabs himself in the stomach - darker energies course from the wound and all over his body. He pulls back, then instantly launches into a nameless, dangerous strike. Jagasaki reaches out to stop the blade with his hand, and the sword buries itself in his flesh, splitting the arm up through the elbow. Jagasaki laughs through it - drawing energy into remaining claw, he arcs into a counter-blow and buries his hand deep through Jigokumachi's chest.

A divine soul feels his own mortality. Jigokumachi looks down at the lethal wound punctured through his abdomen. Jagasaki's shoulders heave under the exertion. He draws back his hand, and picks up Jigokumachi by the next. "Thank you, Jigokumachi. Only you could give me such a good fight, my best friend." Jigokumachi starts to slowly vanish, purple mana seeping from his body into the air until nothing is left.

Even on the sidelines, Shizune and Ito look shaken. Ito mutters to himself about not upsetting Jagasaki ever - or being friends with him, for that matter. B-kun (who had been forgotten about) looked white as a sheet. He shivers a little. "So, uh... I guess... Mission accomplished?"

Nice read, as always

bump

Did the transform have any kind of mechanical benefit or was it all fluff?

If i had to guess, i'd say yes. But i'm not the storyteller

Robo Bump

Attached: 1516733951138.jpg (635x1000, 547K)

The better question is, is that an android or a cyborg?

Probably a cyborg. Or whatever you prefer. The real question is: Does it matter if she's cute?

Nah. Never.

It was just fluff, the only party member with an actual transformation mechanic is Ito and that only got used once, in the first session. It sorta got forgotten after that since Ito went 100% arc slayer with his build.

Is it a dragon carrier transform or what?

Because there's no reason not to use those. They stay active till the end of combat, if memory serves

>Does it matter if she's cute?

Unless there's dick involved, no.

Crystal Transformation, yeah. But I do mean I actually forgot about for this whole stretch of the campaign. Ito was built purely for arc slayer shenanigans and the dragon carrier style just sorta sat there forgotten in a corner.

Thats a bit sad. This system flourishes when you mix and match things from your various styles for all sorts of shenanigans

Most likely a cyborg, it's too organic to be an android.

Attached: The God of Light's Descendant, Julia.png (596x811, 1019K)

I'm not sure i follow that logic

Ito had a pretty solid build as it was, and it suited the character. Plus AS A / DC A didn't mesh too well, since they were both pretty heavy on the spirit dice

It's not like KGK cyborgs have a meat body.

Thats pretty fair, both of them are pretty dice intensive.

Still, that damage boost isn't insignificant

Crystal Transformation is +1 rank, so effectively +6 damage per attack, on a character who was on average hitting in the 100-150 range. Not saying it's worthless, but in this case yeah it was pretty insignificant. Believe me if I needed that +1 rank I would've went looking for it

I'm mostly going off of the dictionary definitions of the word. You are correct, however.

Attached: Genius Mage, Lilina.jpg (564x800, 328K)

Id say arguably +3 damage per attack, on average. Otherwise, that checks out
