Orcs aren't pig people

Then you're a powerful wizard.

I can't take a race with a tail seriously

That seems like a poor reason to not take dragons and such seriously, but okay.

what if the tail has another fist at the end of it?

You're still a fucking idiot that can't do worldbuilding

What if you took baboon and pig characteristics and jammed them together? Feral figs with thumbs would be fucked up.

Just put a pig nose and ears on a prickly furred primate with big teeth with weird social practices about canabalism. It'll be great.

I think I'd be a lot more scared of them, for one.

Honestly you could take any sort of large primate and stuff it with moderate human intelligence and an undying hatred for man to a scarier orc.

Not even dragons?

No you didn't. Chimps are monsters. Everyone should fear the chimp.

I have nothing to add to this. Nothing can add to this. Have a Velma.

They intentionally go for the balls first

Why don't you just make a new race then? Calling them orcs if they don't resemble what people consider orcs is just hurting you more than helping.

Then you get Warhammer.

There's such disagreement over what an orc is (see ) basically anything works so long as they're vaguely antagonistic towards the designated pretty good guy civilization.

das raycist!

Not literal baboon people, like how Orcs aren't literal pig men.

But descended from baboons? Yeah thats cool. Hairless baboons basically look like orcs too.

Orcs only really seem like they're portrayed as "pig-people" in japanland.

The original Monster Manual begs to differ

Attached: 200px-D&DOrc.jpg (200x252, 14K)

Ironically, that's where Japan got the idea from. No idea where Gygax got it from originally.

But tolkien was the first modern rendition of orcs, dnd and they weren't pig like in any way, it was just being snowflakey and adding dumb shit for no raisins.

Sorta did that. They're like savage apes whose scars are made of bone tissue laced with iron. They only want food and iron, can't use tools or fire, don't even have souls.

Attached: the setting's orcs.jpg (1200x875, 254K)

Warhammer is green boar people

Either way they are still niggers

They behave very chimplike though. Lots of shouting and struggling for dominance.

Not quite, but Divinity orcs are gorillas. The females could pass as baboons I guess.

Attached: 1499532763881.jpg (916x515, 100K)

Just make them into slightly larger baboons and I'd be scared shitless.
Hell, when chimps attack, they go for the things that make you human. Like, ripping off your fingers, face and genitals.
Give chimps a taste for human and a shorter gestation period and you've got yourself an enemy.

I prefer Disney Orcs myself.

>literal pavement apes
Oh wait, orcs act like this already. Smite evil desu

Nah. Orcs are orcs, not pig people and not baboon people.

Maybe give them a taste for watermelons while you're at it.

Attached: Naked_Orc.jpg (464x466, 199K)

Brian Nelson says otherwise. They are green gorillas.

There's really only the two interpretations of orcs; the goblinoid Tolkein orcs, and the orcs with pig-like features. Which is what I referred to when I said "resemble what people consider orcs".

Those are goblins.

As orcs only the Tolkien ones or the GW/Warcraft variant really matter, porks are a very niche even here in Veeky Forums or in Japan for they porn. Only very briefly they where a thing with Dnd.

No these are goblins

Attached: gobbos.jpg (800x600, 71K)

There was no distinction until D&D made one up.

Strap some spiky armor on him and give him a ax and I'd buy him as an orc.

Basically just these guys, with maybe greasy manes.

Attached: orc.jpg (900x1273, 252K)

I take it you never played Icewind Dale, then. The orcs in that are very much pig-people. Non-pig people only became more popular when the Lord of the Rings films came out. Before then, most people treated orcs as a violent race with pig noses and tusks.

Why make niggers?

Attached: 1495649497550.gif (180x135, 1.31M)

No substantial change except for a few nerds complaining about it on Veeky Forums

Oh c'mon user that was nasty.
Apes tend to behave way better than niggers, stop comparing them to nigs.

Yeah, but combine them with Orc traits and what do you get?

This is glorious

Depends on what orcs you are talking about. Early-days D&D indeed had orcs as boar-like people. The Japanese took this as a pretty definitive trope for orcs, and continue to characterize them as porcine till this day in animu and mango.

As for not being baboon-like, Tolkien did describe the orcs as having fangs, lengthy arms, and slouched posture. Sounds pretty baboon-like to me.

Think about it. How would most people in Middle Earth even know what a baboon looked like? Non-human primates features would indeed seem like a wicked and twisted version of more beautiful hominid features, maybe even those of elves, and orcs are a corruption of elves.

Not saying this is JRR's intention by any means (I'm sure it wasn't), but rendering them as baboon-like seems like a fairly valid artist's interpretation, though not a definitive interpretation.

Personally, I always got the feeling of some sorts of regressive looking ape-men when reading about the orcs, even a sort of mythological interpretation of non-homo sapien hominids we once shared the earth with.

Be honest OP, you were hoping this would devolve into a /pol/ tier shitfest about blacks, weren't you?

see: It is expressed by JRR that goblin might colloquially used more towards the smaller varieties of orc. But overall, they are different words for the same thing.

There was a distinction between hobgoblin and orc though

Why are you even using the name "orc"?

I just want to talk about world-building. Or even weird quirky stuff like OP is suggesting. Why can we not talk about that without these shit-fucks coming in to complain about their love-hate boyfriend "Nigger-kun"

>Pig orcs
>Not the best

Attached: blog orc family.png (1000x800, 38K)

If you have time for that shit why don't you ban the avatar faggots and fetish posters replies. They shit a fuck load of threads.

I was secretly hoping for someone to make the connection to Thoth and somehow end up with Egyptian mythology orcs, but I'm principally inclined to let threads run their course.

>calls others brainlets
>can't read

Go ahead, point to the part where you think that guy said they were.

They are green brits though.

I don't know if we would call them distinct, according to the wiki it sounds like more of one of the many subraces/strains:

lotr.wikia.com/wiki/Hobgoblin

There are definitely different types of orc. But they are all orc.

D&D had them as a literally distinct race and culture with origins separate from those of orcs. Other world-builder followed this. I kind of like how Warhammer took a median approach, and had orcs and goblins as distinct races of fairly different character, but all to fall under the umbrella of "greenskins", whose hordes would often unite.

Now see, that actually sounds pretty cool.
But I can still see how people normally wouldn't put those together. Egypt is always portrayed as this shining glamourous civilization in the desert and Orcs are usually the opposite of that. It'd be easier for people to see egypt as full of desert elves or dwarves than Orcs.

It would definitely work with the "Noble savage" portrayal of orcs though.

At the end of the day, I think orcs really are beast-men, or more specifically, beast-elves. Tolkien's own descriptions seems to reflect this, even if he does not outwardly say they resemble beasts.

Do they appear more elf than beast, or more beast than elf? That's up to how someone wants to imagine them.

In Tolkien orcs I don't see anything "beast" and more broken so much they end being husk being controlled be more powerful beings.

Not gonna lie, I both hate and love this. I feel kind of disgusted with myself for wanting these characters to be my bros and fight with them.

It might work.

Attached: neanderthal-human-body-comparison.jpg (590x568, 56K)

I get the sense of a bit of that, and a bit of it also being that they are so easily manipulated due to inferior intelligence, like trained animals. This seems wrong, but I like the idea at least.

As far as appearance, I'm going off how he describes them. I might be a little bit liberal in that interpretation - more than anything they just possess monstrous features, and monsters are just chimeras of different things (ie. man + wolf teeth, etc.). In that sense, many or most fantasy races are beast-like.

not OP but I'm guessing because he's only talking about their appearance. Not the tropes about their behaviour, culture, racial relations and so forth.

Apart of tusks and the eyes, they are described as grey/greenish/yellowish looking midgets with a unhealthy look overall, PJ LoTR nailed the look in my opinion, specially the moria ones.
Adding animals to them only sullies the idea of them imho. There are a few good interpretation about babbons in RPG already, like the Praxian troops in Prax, they are very fun to play with.

>I feel kind of disgusted with myself for wanting these characters to be my bros and fight with them.
>fight with them.

Why wouldn't you see those guys as enemies to battle in the dungeon?

Robert Howard's orc monster things were basically giant baboons.

But he hated black people so that's probably got more to do with it than hating Tolkien.

I know its not the artist's intention, but they kind of look like they need help. Also something about the picture makes me see them as oddly chill and benevolent.

Conan is plenty earlier than LoTR user,

Chimpanzees and the other apes in general are basically real-world orcs anyway. Their tribal cultures closely mimic the brutish orc cultures of Tolkien and others. They are intensely competitive and use horrifying violence and torture to intimidate their enemies. They employ group tactics to take down larger opponents, weed out their weak with constant infighting, and engage in vicious Machiavellian schemes, bartering meat and mates with their fellow allies to gain support against an alpha male or female. There is documented evidence of chimpanzees pimping themselves to others for meat. Chimps don't even need meat. Meat is a status symbol, and they use it very much like currency.

The fight you see in the pic is not spontaneous. It is the culmination of several months of planning by the other chimps. The alpha male of a troupe is the undisputed ruler. He fucks who he wants, kills who he wants, takes what he wants. This chimp, Pimu, was the alpha of his troupe for four years. Male chimps have to play a careful game: if there aren't enough females to go around, other male chimps have to die, but if there are fewer male chimps around there are fewer allies to call upon for help in the case of violence. Pimu was, by all accounts, a tyrant, so the other chimps plotted to separate Pimu from the rest of the group and beat him to death in the woods.

Fucking chimps man.

Depending on the setting, orcs are commonly literally pig people. Stop being so obtuse.

I'd just say make chimps a little more intelligent and you've got a really nice orc/goblinoid parallel. They live in mountains and forests, organize raids, steal and use weapons, and are extremely strong, durable, agile, high energy, and just dumb enough to have that characteristic extreme chimp cruelty.

>You will never be so alpha that your subordinates will have to band together plot for months to separate and murder your ass to gain power

And the fucked up part is they won't even share it. There will still be one alpha and a few close allies, who may drift towards other chimps based on the general needs of the tribe (food, mates, security, and so on.) It's a never-ending cycle of alliances and betrayal and brutal, tortuous murder. Pimu got his balls torn off and was jumped on until his skull caved in. Usually chimps don't kill the alpha, they beat the shit out of him and he runs away.

That is so fucking uncanny looking holy shit.

Okay, why is a deranged barber running around shaving all these primates?

Then this truly is the end times

Just like my japanese animes

Listen, I don't complain about your hobbies.

this is why apes are my go-to monk race

they'll just beat your shit in, it doesn't matter who you are, if a chimps pissed at you its gonna rip your ears and thumbs off and then your balls, and then eyes probably, hell they might just take your jaw off of your skull if you've got a steven tyler mouth they think they can fit their hand in

And this is why 'Monk' is a terrible name for the standard martial artist class. Because Chimps don't give a fuck about harmony and inner peace and monastic seclusion.

they aren't little either

could have been a baby.

Replace all intelligent enemy races with psuedo-apefolk. Except they are entirely bald and have strange skin colors.
Instead of orcs they are gorillas. Instead of goblins you have baboons or chimpanzees. Ogres are like orangutans.
And every single one of them hates humanity to the core.

That looks dumb
