In many cases (speaking for my tiny Yurop country with a grand total of 3 unis), people will just live at home and commute (partially the financial situation, but partially also a culture of big families and not leaving home and parents building a fuckhuge house for all the kids to live in when they are adults or even several, one for each kid).

They make new Forge Worlds, although Mars has always been the most powerful of them and usually they've not got the Ring Of Iron. Judging by the fact Graia is surrounded by a giant lattice of space stations like a net that basically gives them a warp-capable Forge World and Xana II cosplaying as Unicron it's not quite out of their reach to build again, but just expanding existing forges and spamming troops out of them is currently more efficient than trying to build more wonders with somewhat degraded construction capabilities.

Don't the admech have a planet that has been turned into a forge all the way to it's core? I seem to recall a short story about a Tyranid fleet attacking the planet, only to have the magos and the skitarii retreat underground and send out skitarii and servitors to fight the tyranids. When they died they sent out servo-skulls to collect the mechanized parts so they could be implanted into new vat grown bodies. So the Forge world withstood for a LONG time until renforcements could arrive

Judging by the masses of 40k ships we will soon have four Segmentum battlefleets, the Ordo Reductor and Battlefleet Lucius, because that's some impressive economies of scale. Also teleporting Titan Legions, because bullshit tech.
I think they managed to beat the Tyranids straight up, it was Metallica that got bailed out by Deimos from a few billion Chaos cultists, hundreds of Knights and a third of the Death Guard. Forge Worlds are stupidly hard to take down.
