I read that you could use the Stormtrooper doctrine on custom regiments. How does it fare on tanks? Is it better than Tallarn?
And how does it work with random shot weapons? Is it technically possible for a battlecannon to get 12 shots with the doctrine?

It's more of a guideline than a rule. It's the suggested limit for any event but people often try to avoid getting too spammy with it. If people don't really care about that then you did a pretty good job with efficiency.

Yellow pigment applies very thinly, so you have to apply 1000 layers in order to get an even coat while keeping it from clumping, smearing, or coming off. There are similar problems with reds, oranges, and white paint.
You can make it look like its deteriorating with rust/drirt effects or if you're thinking of an easy drybrush soltuion, use nuln oil wash all over the metal and then drybrush high-traffic damaged areas with a brighter metal to look like that area has been worn out a bit more. Stainless steel that is scratched is brighter underneath.
