IIRC they're putting the full PDF(s) of the playtest materials out for free this August. Dunno if the physical copies would be expected to go out earlier or at the same time.
To be honest, I'm sick of DND 5e and it's utterly disappointing lack of options or depth, so I'll probably pick it up and give it a spin if it's released online for free... but no way in hell I'm paying for it.

Tone's hard to convey over text, but I was saying it as a BAD thing, not a praise of the game. People can say "caster supremacy" doesn't exist, but when you show up for a game and everyone's everyone's rolled up a full-caster every time... yeah, it's a problem.

3.5 had 9th level, then 4e had 15th levels spells. They were not the same- to say the least.
I haven't read up on enough PF2e to know better, but enlighten me.
Literally just go on the play test site, it's a bulleted play test mechanic.
to be fair, 4e doesn't count, there's no real "15th level spells", every class gets more and more abilities as they level up. If you were to quantify it as it was in 4e, they technically get 30th level spells

Plot twist: 10th level spells are old 6th level.
It comes out in august as a free download.
Also casters can choose which components of a spell to use (somatic, verbal, material) and scale the spell's effect from like a touch to a ranged to an AOE based on how many components they choose to use. True story.

Place your bets on how long Veeky Forums is going to be completely unusable when the final rules come out. There is no "oh it might be fine" scenario, because the only scenarios we have are these:
A. Paizo manages to Paizo up the rules even more than they did last time. Pathfag tears flow in floods as autists viciously mock them as this is their worst case scenario. We possibly get a livestreamed suicide via book burning.
B. Paizo catches lightning in a bottle and it's fucking great. Pathfags shit on everyone and won't shut up about it because autists have been making fun of them for years and they'll finally have ammo to fight back. PF1.0 fags still cry.
C. It's a lukewarm release, in which case autists STILL get to mock PF1.0 fags for having their precious system abandoned just like 3.5 was so many years ago. Except it will also contain the self-righteous bleatings of the PF1.0 fags and the PF2.0 fags will only make it worse with their own version of the 3aboo/4rry system war.
D. As per one of the above, but we come up with catchy nicknames like we did for 3aboos and 4rries. This is currently the least likely scenario.

I'm with you on this one. It's like This Is Spinal Tap--making an amp go to 11 doesn't make the scale automatically cap out higher and you could *more* easily make 10 louder.

Paizo is already ahead of the market with their MMO.

Honestly, I might. They're offering it as a free pdf and all, but I know I'm going to be pirating anything else they put out going forward so buying the one as a collector's item kind of appeals to me, seeing as I won't pay for it twice.

Yes. The full playtest is going to be online in PDF form, but Paizo is also producing hardcopy versions for autists and/or collectors who want beta material in hardback.
