USD pairs, I've currently been using GDAX/Coinbase, but I'm likely going to start using Gemini because fuck Coinbase and I've been verified on Gemini for a while.

Yes on both. They can both take a while to verify at times, Gemini generally takes longer though and isn't available in all states (US obviously).

GDAX/Coinbase is literally the easiest to use, and ((probably)) the safest exchange, if you're new just use it. I'd look into whether or not you're able to use Gemini in your area and just get verified there as well, it's not as normie friendly, but it's not hard to use either.
For crypto pairs (read: ETH pairs) to trade shitcoins, I use Binance. Also have Bittrex as a backup. Verified on both.

Yes, if you want to withdrawal a non-trivial amount of money. Not sure on Bittrex, but Binance is limiting new user registration to certain windows per day, and requires a referal to get a new account during that window. I'm not a faggot, so I'm not going to give you mine, but I'm sure some other poorfag will gladly give you theirs. Binance was the fastest to verify my ID out of all the exchanges I've registered on, but that was months ago so it's likely not the same story. Bittrex took forever.

Binance is probably my favorite exchange. It offers a lot of shitcoins on BTC/ETH and some on BNB & USDT pairs. Prices can tend to lag other exchanges at times, which can be good or bad depending on if you're buying or selling. They've had issues with downtimes recently, but so has every other exchange. Security wise, it's the only exchange I would leave any non trivial amount of crypto on for extended periods of time (other than GDAX, because they're insured), the only risk I see in that is if you need to trade something and their down, but if they're down it's likely the others are fucking up as well.
