BitMEX has an insurance fund for this reason. It's on them, not you. You will get margin called and then liquidated if you hit your maintenance margin.

Bitmex is the best crypto exchange, great tools, nothing major to complain about. But if you don't know what you doing, please please take couple of months of reading and practice on their test site. Otherwise you will likely loose your money in a day.
You can play with $100 and use x10 margin to be safe, and on a 1000 dollars you came make 100 per bet and not risk too much. But it works much better if you have 0.1 btc at least to start with. Don't get tempted, dont get greedy, play on safe bets only, after you see a trend. Play safe, make easy living. Note: There are no spikes on bitmex as you trading index, not btc direct.
