I was able to test drive one of these and they are awesome cars.

if you are determined to by a lambo or ferrari just find one that's already mostly depreciated and a recent service. they don't drop below 80k unless there is something REALLY wrong with them. You can find a Gallardo with a full service and new clutch for 100k and it will actually be very reliable.

The 124 is a bit slower than the MX-5 due to the turbo's shitty powerband and added weight. There are some ECU piggyback modules for the multiair that make the powerband less retarded and bump the power up to. I'm not a fan of what Fiat did with the chassis to make up for the added weight and size, either, but that probably won't matter to most people. Those are just minor gripes, though. It's still incredibly fucking fun at the track and on backroads.
I really want to give the Evora a go, too, but I don't know if it would adequately answer the question of why not get a Porsche GT4. If you want more power for the ND and don't want to do the generic LS swap, there's a company called V8 Roadsters working on a LFX V6 swap.

for me the mx5, all of them, have several issues that make them a really shit car.

1)not practical at all. They are almost required to be a second vehicle. it's hard as hell to get a set of golf clubs in there and I would never take one grocery shopping.

2)they cannot provide me with what I need out of a vehicle. I need something that can carry a few weeks worth of supplies to campsites where there is rarely if ever a road. only reason I'm sitting on my ass right now is I broke my hand and had to cancel my trip to Colorado.

3) I guess this is entirely subjective, but there are better looking roadsters in the same price range. I do all my own mechanical work so I will hand the after market to the MX5. However, whenever you turbo a car or modify it you change the driving mechanics of the vehicle. They go through tons of testing to tune the car just right. I'll use this one because this is what I see at most car shows, fucking civic kids putting coil overs on and then bitching about how it doesn't drive the same.

more often then not, if it isn't a shop doing it or you haven't done tons of research you're just going to make the car worse and harder to sell. people don't want modified vehicles(unless they're idiots) so you need to find someone who want's a project car.

When I buy a car I make sure it's mostly depreciated and I keep the stock parts so I can return it back to stock when I go to sell it. Considering I deal mostly with off road vehicles it's a lot easier to sell a lifted 4x4 with mud tires than it is a turbo civic with coil overs

If you ever get the chance buy a 4x4 and take a trip out into the wilderness for a month or two. Colorado and Oregon are pretty forgiving for a first time but I'd get a guide or go in a group. Overlanding can be quite unforgiving.

probably the best "affordable" supercar on the market right now. It's chassis was basically just a way to fund development for the senna. The senna is rumored to be the first car with more downforce than weight making it theoretically possible to drive the car upsidedown.

Overlanding is fun. I've done parts of central and eastern Africa in a diesel LC70, with a group of course. I really want to get one of those imported in from Japan for going innawoods in the western US, although the meme pricing is bullshit to the point where I might as well just get a new 4runner, even though those are much too big for my tastes. Eastern Oregon and Idaho are my favorite stomping grounds. SoCal and Arizona have a lot of great places to overland (I used to live in a shack by what was left of Owens Lake), but you have to be really careful of coyotes and cartel fuckers who like to take potshots at you.
Another fun option I've been thinking about is getting a BMW F800 GS adventure bike.
