I really think Brazil is a nice place to just do nothing if you have a lot of money, we have the best weather, women and food in the world.
The secret is to pick a small city in the country, then everything will be cheap and close, preferably some place with a beach, then buy a house "pé na areia" (right in front of the beach) and live like a king doing drugs and getting laid.

I'm 50 years old and been to about 40 countries around the world. Worked for several oil developers and stayed for months in several places like Lagos, Kuala Lumpur, Doha, Almaty, and a couple other smaller cities. They can be like first world places but a 20 minute busride out of town will get you third world status.
First off, after 9/11 the value of being a white man (especially American but European too) has gone down so far overseas its gotten dangerous to be in a shit hole. Some, not all, view you as a white devil (seriously) and just being white can get you kidnapped because you obviously are rich..even if you have 10 bucks in your pocket you are rich. ...and expect to be robbed if you dress unlike a Peace Corp volunteer.
Second, outside most major cities the food, water, healthcare, sanitation and way of life is FUCKING AWFUL. Try walking around all day without showering and properly washing your ass. It was ok with just a group of guys working, but bitches dont like you that way. Oh yeah, and every little cut or bug bite you get can potentially kill you. And shake out your boots. And your sheets. And be sure to look down the hole you shit into just to be safe.
Third, everybody including you gets homesick after a while...the grass is always greener on the other side.
What do I recommend? Go to a large US friendly city like Bangkok, Manila or Santiago Chile and see if you like it...then expand your radius as you know the places.
There are cheap women all over the world and the initial 'love' for you inevitably turns to greed and heartbreak and regret. Seen it over and over and over.
