Serious question to the literate, intellectual christfags, by "treasures in heaven", is he referring to something like "treasures of the mind"? Obviously it the concept of heaven would include more than just that, but the point is learning a new skill is more valuable than owning a new car. Is that the basic gist of what he's trying to get at?
To understand the meaning, it's important to cross reference, read the context, or find consistency with Jesus' teachings. With that said, Jesus is basically saying everything on this Earth is temporary. This same message is reflected in Buddhism, Advaita Vedanta, Hinduism, and Eastern Teachings in general. Since things decay, changes, dies, etc. With that said, Jesus is basically saying our permanent residence and things in heaven are eternal. In the analogy, Jesus contrasts this with things that aren't permanent and decay on Earth. So what you want to do, is do things to ensure you can get to this heavenly home. To do this and to gain entry there, see my previous reply above.
