Completing a dungeon gives you something like 66-75% of the current dungeon reward (which increasing through training costs). You never fail if your character level is higher than dungeon difficulty (second number)

the higher your level compared to the dungeon, the more likely you'll get more loot. also, if you plan to make gains, let the loot accumulate a bit, don't go challenging when the loot is less than cost of challenging.
