That's a huge problem - normally Bonds are safe, because governments typically can't afford to lose THAT much trust by scamming anyone. Venezuela is so damn untrustworthy though.

I don't give a shit about owning part of a communist government (the irony alone makes it worthwhile for the lols), but not one that is in NO way going to ever deliver on the debt. You can't lock down physical assets in a smart contract, so it's not trustless, which is what blockchain tech is about.

its been a socialist country for about 20 years and had the highst standard living in SA for the majorty of that time.

The international sanctions on Venezuela started recently, before that the Venezuelan goverment had near 20 years to ruin the 50 years of progress Venezuela had, turning from the Latin American Switzerland to the Latin American Mozanbique.

The sanctions only started when people started fleeing from the country in masse so they wouldn't starve and getting killed for protesting.

The goverment keeps swearing it will be, but they are famous for making shit up as they go so no one really knows.

That's why the goverment guys want to get into it, they want to launder drug money, oil production in Venezuela has been in freefall in the past 3 years, just from November to today the oil production, the main product of this country fell 40%, it took fucking decades to get the production that far up in the first place, the only people that will be getting their money back from Petro will be the goverment officials when they finally need to cash out to escape from the country to some Caribbean or European country once this place becomes absolutly inhospitable.

This is a goverment that hasn't invested a single dime in production of any kind, of course living standards were great, they still had money they didn't earn to give away.

Also a goverment that let's any chronic patients straight up die since they never planned to put importation of medicines in their budget.
