newfag here, I feel like my peanut brain is getting manipulated by the shills so I want to learn how to effectively judge the value of a coin for myself. What criteria do you guys use to evaluate a coin? What is the correlation between marketcap, volume, and circulating supply? I need any advice you guys can spare.
Newfag here...
marketcap = circulating supply * price
Many shitcoins get pumped to Uranus and many great coins stay at rock bottom so throw a dice and pick your horses
Read the white papers and do Marketcap math. Secrets that have not been marketed will often show up if you read the white papers.
Example - HPB white paper literally says they are partnered with Union Pay. This has not been confirmed anywhere else, but you can make a lot of money if you buy now before it is confirmed.
>implying white papers mean anything
They're just powerpoints. They have to substance to them. The real way to succeed in ICOs is: Jump in before it gets pumped, jump out before it gets dumped. Try to pick a coin that will get pump&dumped.
BRAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
>Try to pick a coin that will get pump&dumped
How do you do that? Where do you find that kind of info?
There isn't any value to any of this crap it's the end of crapitalism moment before full socialism. No one can explain the value of buttcoin unless they use the same thinking that is used to describe the value of tulips in the Dutch period. Put a few shitcoins you have heard talked about on CNBC on a dartboard then throw a water balloon at it. Buy the one with the most water on it.
Don’t listen to Veeky Forums and Reddit. Only 9 coins out of more than 1500 aren’t rising. Two of those 9 are Nano and Chainlink.
Nano is the most shilled coin on reddit.
Chainlink is the most shilled coin on Veeky Forums.
Mean while things like LTC is up $100 or almost 100% in 7 days.
Do your own research and pick projects you believe. Or pick one if the top 5s for minor but secure long term gains.
ouch
How much ICX for all 3 of these fine specimens?
Study market psychology. That's what makes up 90% of the market movements.
Don't buy into something that already has an active or over-active marketing campaign. Find the solid projects in the top 100 with little or no marketing, but where the devs have expressed that marketing will be a future priority.
Don't be the dumb money who buys in after the marketing begins.
This is maybe a bad example, because nobody on earth is going to say that bitconnect is a better deal than either of those, no matter how weakly you rate their innovations.
Truth is both are probably being held down so whales can accumulate, and in the case of nano as a result of the recent bitgrail situation.
Also I recognize my understanding in blockchain technology is lacking, what I'm trying to wrap my head around right now is blockchains that offer tokens but are not currency focused. Why does a service like ChainLink give tokens if it's just a means of connecting resources. Do you have to own these tokens to use their service? Same with IoT chain, are these tokens just generated through use of their tech and if so why? Is there a crash course on the important stuff I can read? Spoonfeed my small brain please
What flags do you use when determining if their marketing campaign has already begun? Social media presence? There are projects I'm interested in but have already picked up in value in the 15-40 dollar range and have a sizable twitter following, would buying into these be considered as dumb money?
Twitter following means nothing. But the dev teams activity on social media is something you need to pay attention to.
>How often do they announce stuff?
>How often do they post on social media?
>How many news articles exist about the project? Don't look at blogs. Articles by "real" publications is pushed through by a PR rep 99% of the time
>Have they made holders aware of current NDAs? Do they use this fact to intentionally pump the price?
Etc, etc.
Avoid projects where the devs are already shilling the shit out of the project, because it gets old quick, and when news dries up, "investors" flee.
Tron is a prime example of a shitcoin which is over-hyped.
VeChain is a prime example of a decent coin which is over-hyped.
Neither is a good buy if you're looking to maximize your profits.
they're service focused
LINK is a currency for exchanging data not goods
you'd pay for groceries in XRB (thats what redditcucks think anyway)
you'd pay for external blockchain data in LINK (apple stock prices, import data feeds onto block chain, etc...)
in the long run, only the fudamentals of a coin matter.
solid invest, ents are XLM, NEO, ETH, XMR
eberything else is just a shot to nothing i.e. it might moon, might not.
what does XLM do that ETH doesnt?
what does NEO do that ETH doesnt?
NEO is the "chinese blockchain" that holds all other chinese smartcontracts. it is going to be massive.
XLM will power the fairx exchance, which will be even massiver.
Unless your net worth is high enough that you literally can't deploy cash fast enough/have enough time to manage deals personally, then you should not be investing in highly speculative assets like crypto or your Californian uncle Vinny's marijuanna farm. Much better in the long run to build tangible skills by building businesses/investing with a set methodology. Especially if your net worth is under $5M or so, it's pretty "easy" to get 20x - 100x on one deal that can then be repeated in the future if you don't have room temperature IQ. Unfortunately most people think short-term and don't care about building a good track record they can leverage later to do bigger and more exciting deals. A track record allows you to do things like get blank cheque offers from VCs.
Helpful advice, user. Take it for what it's worth
Oh, and on the opposite spectrum is of course is our beloved ChainLink.
They've taken the no-announcements part to the extreme, by not posting on Twitter since November, and only being available in Slack which requires an invite.
They're playing a dangerous game, because with absolute zero marketing, they are running the risk of losing momentum. But if they were to launch a serious and successful marketing campaign before summer, I believe the potential gains could be enormous.
For a norman investor, every single thing about the project, except the underlying tech, screams "don't buy". And it still somehow manages to claw its way up the top 100.

Like chainlink
See I've only got $10k in LINK right now, because as I said, they are running the risk of losing momentum. But when the team announces that a marketing director has been hired, I'll most likely buy more.
>is NEO just chinese ETH then?
yes, but the term "just" is a bonus, not a pejorative.
>dump LINK
no. LINK is a magical elixer that will bring wealth to all to imbibe its huneyed nectar
>Dump part of a $200M mcap project which has not been marketed yet
>For a $8B mcap project which already launched a massive marketing campaign
Does this sound like a good idea?
They are presenting at bitcoin superconference and somewhere else. This month. That is advertising to the people that matter. Being under NDA's prevent them from saying too much which makes marketing hard. They plan toi market their product later.
Ether took over 1.5 hears before it really took off. Barely any marketing as well.
is it VEN?
If not, buy VEN
I buy this rumor. Why would they co invest with Vechain and Qtum on CPChain? Something huge is up.
ur a moron, Vechain will be the number one crypto within two years, do you not understand where it is going and what it will do, the real world problems it solves? It's dirt cheap salty.
NEO is the wrong Chinese coin to buy, kid.
The presentations given by Sergey appear to be a way to reach partnerships; both node operators and companies to utilize the oracle network. It shouldn't be considered marketing towards the ordinary "investor".
And as such, it shouldn't affect the price a whole lot in the short term, but in the long term it only means there will be an even bigger explosion once the team launches a marketing campaign.
Here is how you correctly wire to coinbase or any other fiat exchange.
I began buying VeChain at $0.30 and sold at roughly $8, because as I've said, I buy before the marketing begins and sell when the marketing begins to wear off.
I'm in crypto to maximize my gains. Sure, you'll probably make a lot of money holding for a year. But I'll make a lot more.
ZCL is set to pump hard and there are maybe 1/10th as many threads for it as LINK. NEO looks to be completing a 6 month cup and handle, and is overall a solid project with a safe future for investors. There are no NEO threads. When shit is down and getting shilled hard, you have to consider whether or not these people would genuinely like you to buy a dip on something promising, or whether they want to dump their bags on you to cut their losses.
>effectively judge the value of a coin
Buy red candles, sell green candles. I literally have no idea what the hell a bitcoin is.
>has a team of real people
>has a whitepaper with an original idea
>the idea is actually needed
>they make progress instead of just talking about it
That's all the fundamentals you really need to know. Find ones others haven't gotten in on.
You 1600 VEN for .055 BTC....what are you buying next?
You got^
Hey man, look at the upcoming developments. Look at the community behind it. Look if there is truly a usecase that's disruptive and better than what we have now. Thats all you have to do. Never ever fucking listen to biz.
Go research these coins and find out yourself if you like them or not :
syscoin
ripple
florincoin
Scroll up. I've already said one.
For the others, open CMC and start digging.
>Example - HPB white paper literally says they are partnered with Union Pay. This has not been confirmed anywhere else, but you can make a lot of money if you buy now before it is confirmed.
We've known this since the beginning, that's why it went to $13 so quickly you dumb fucking nigger.
Chainlink?
Laugh all you want. My approach allowed me to cash out roughly $2.8M in 2017.
The approach is as basic as it gets, but I understand that buying things that aren't hyped goes against the very instinct of newfags. Your instinct is to FOMO when the hype arrives, and my job is to profit off that instinct.
This but unironically.

The biggest problem right now aren't shills, but emotional retards too attached to their investments. Try to figure out for yourself how to make this place useful. If most of the information you find about a coin comes from here you're probably doing something wrong.
Market Cap = Price * Circulating Supply. Some people use Max supply instead, I think that's a mistake but as long as you're on the same page, whatever. Higher volume usually means it's easier to buy/sell. It's more important if you want to swing trade, if there's not much volume the price won't move much.
Because Chainlink isn’t the most shilled coin on this entire board right?
hyped by Veeky Forums ≠ hyped by crypto community
If you base your investments on what's unpopular or popular on Veeky Forums, you're in for a world of hurt. This board can hardly put a dent in any coins marketcap. I am in Chainlink DESPITE the shilling on Veeky Forums, which is a huge fucking negative.
