Having a BBQ and some vegans are invited and I don't know any vegan dishes

I'm hosting a BBQ for my family and someone is bringing a few friends who are vegan.

What are some easy vegan dishes I can learn in a day? 1-3 vegan trays of food I can provide.

I already have some vegetarian slow cooked beans, mash potatoes, corn, coleslaw, sliced carrots/celery being provided.

give them celery or something. If you are gonna be a picky eater you can''t complain about that shit

Oreos

Fry up some soy burgers?

Cross-contamination.

nah man, portabello burgers

You would have to be a total fucking asshole, even amongst vegans for that to be something you considered

>someone is bringing a few friends who are vegan
I'm so sorry for you, OP. I couldn't cook for an autist for the life of me, best of luck.

Is that an actual issue? Most vegan or vegetarian people don't eat meat because of ethics, not because they're allergic or something. Would someone really get triggered over something that petty?

because their food being cooked on the same surface that's cooking meat contaminates their ethics

like this user said just grill up a portabello

Throw on onion, peppers, zucchini, pineapple, or whatever you like on the grill

Also have a spare vinegar based dressing for slaw or salad

fuck vegans though

yeah I don't particiularly care for vegans but if they'\re not douchey it's not that hard to accomodate them, and if they are douchey then have the balls to toss them out

it's not like i personally am triggered, i just don't like it and thus sort myself out with extra gear to put it on the BBQ.

also this , unless someone brings wankers to your party you should be fine as anybody who isn't a complete WhenYoureVeganButhaventToldAnybodyIn5Minutes.jpg will prefer not to be a nuisance

Apparently you can make a decent facsimile of pulled pork with jackfruit.

minimalistbaker.com/bbq-jackfruit-sandwiches-with-avocado-slaw/

Unfortunately even though jackfruit is cheap/lb they don't usually come smaller than like 8-10lbs lol.

I take it you've never tried to feed a vegan

Along with this, even chunk pineapples smoked or just grilled with bbq sauce would probably make a pretty decent sandwich.

Full now that I mention all this, and while I have a couple of pork butts smoking outside.. I kinda want to run to the store for some pineapple to put on my pulled pork sandwiches....

every bbq I have been to with vegans in attendance they always complain about that shit, just last month my friend literally had to section off the grill with foil to keep the vegan items separate.

in my case once I had a guy who I didn't even invite come over and bitch at me while I was on the grill "uh, do you have anything that isn't meat?" he said with a condescending inflection

I pointed to the buns

I don't accommodate dietary restrictions when people come over. I don't need to do that to be a good host, I'm a good host by allowing people into my home and providing them with a free meal. It is their responsibility to eat it and not complain about it or leave, makes no difference to me.

>I'm a good host by allowing people into my home and providing them with a free meal

life of the party detected

it's a shame that people following a certain diet, i.e. myself, will always get thrown in a pot with flamingly retarded individuals who, whatever the fuck may be the reason, follow the same. in fact that is just shit tier behaviour as a guest and even as a decent human being. makes me mad

yes, it's a big deal when someone asks you to come to where they live and eat food they paid for and expect nothing in return but your company, and people have to audacity to complain about the offerings. When did guest etiquette get thrown out?

the way I was brought up, if someone gives you something for free you don't complain about it, you take it and thank them even if you don't want it.

Its one thing if its a legitimate allergy, but if someone is just being picky like a vegan or a gluten insensitivity, thats not your business to worry about

sad and weak

>When did guest etiquette get thrown out?
You have to consider what goes on in the mind of self-entitled people:

Me me me! Look at me! I have a unique, self imposed diet! Why aren't you treating me special!?

>Vegans
Tell them to bring their own fucking food, it's a god damned bbq.
That's like going to a vegan buffet and demanding to know why they aren't serving any steak. Jesus christ.

>I already have some vegetarian slow cooked beans, mash potatoes, corn, coleslaw, sliced carrots/celery being provided.

That's more than sufficient. It's a BBQ and should expect meat and if they don't like it, they can stay home.

feed them a bowl of eggs

First off friend, vegan =/= vegetarian. It's actually awesome you are at least trying. Vegetarian is easy to cook for, vegans not so much. They tend to be picky and yeah they won't let you cook their soy products where any meat has been cooked.
That being said.............most "vegetarians" are basically just not "meat eaters" Have some cheese pizza and mac n cheese handy and they'll be fine. Not joking every vegetarian i've dated has been heavy on the dairy.

I dont give a shit if my soy touched meaty surfaces thats just silly.

Uninvite them and hmu I want some bbq and I'll bring beer and cornhole

this

Also, do you have a smoker? Cool-smoked firm tofu is pretty amazing, almost kind of like smoked gouda or something. Smoke a block, cut into slices, coat with sauce and put in a sandwich.

You can also do fried tempeh (pic related) or try cutting tempeh up, putting it on a skewer with mushrooms and onions and other stuff, smoking the skewer, then serving with BBQ sauce in a bun.

Smoked tofu (pic related) is WORLDS different than normal tofu, enough that if it was on a platter with cheese, people would assume it's some kind of mild smoked semi-firm cheese or something (obviously store-bought brands and methods vary the result though).

Jesus just grill a bunch of veggies and or roast them.

bananas
Apples
Nuts

>vegan buffet
oh so you mean the salad bowl?

Veggie dogs and Bocas vegan grilled burgers. Just cook them in the microwave. Get whole wheat vegan buns and then vegetables and condiments for them. Get a veggie tray and hummus. Easy stuff man. Maybe a pasta salad without anchovies in the dressing.

definitely don't get 5 or 6 things for a couple of picky eaters. They can eat some pickle spears and diced onions from the condiment spread and get on with their lives

my sides

Tell them to suck a dick. I never let anyone picky add work for me on a simple get together.

Grill some marinated tofu. Make a tomato-onion-celery salad with red wine vinegar and olive oil dressing. And some dill weed. And salt.

How about grilled flatbread?

i dont know why you would expect to find vegan friendly food at a BBQ, but you could make a nice teriyaki sauce and grill some veggies to make veggie yakitori.

Id try leaks, onions, tomatoes probably without the sauce, celery and whatever else sounds good.

Just grill them, dip them, and grill them a bit longer.

actually i would go with shallots instead of regular onions, also leeks not leaks.

Cherry tomatoes, spring onions, courgette, sweet or bell peppers, and mushrooms.

grill them up some prime grade dry aged watermelon tenderloins

Just make sure you slip a little meat into whatever you decide on.

this is a great way of making your guests really sick and being accused of trying to poison them!

Make some roasted veggies in foil or something, sneak some bacon fat in there for keks

>invited to vegan bbq
>show up despite having my doubts
>ask what meat they have
>they don't have any

Why are vegans always such shitty hosts?

really? you expected someone who doesn't eat meat based on their ideals to serve it?

I serve meat based on my ideals and am still expected to offer a non-meat option

I can't tell if you're playing along or you just fell for some of the easiest bait I've seen on this board.

...and that's saying something for this board

Top Kek!

Bullets, they're also gluten free & low in saturated fat

If not b8 then

>I don't eat meat, I'm going to the BBQ, go out of your way to prepare me special dishes
No issue here

>I do eat meat, I'm going to the vegan BBQ, go out of your way to prepare me special dishes
Oh well now you're just stupid, they don't have to cater to your food beliefs

Keep getting all your idealisms from buzzfeed and Facebook kiddo

>McFuckingKillYourself.jpg

Vegan here, I'd be more than happy to have that number of side dishes.

Often when I go to BBQs I just subsist on beer and mixed nuts or whatever.

> tfw store-bought nuts often aren't vegan because they're dusted with lactose powder fucking WHY

pop open a jar of vegan mayo and make sure to offer each of them their own spoon

Coconut fried green bananas with agave and salt.

i hope you burned the fuck out of their food and pretended it was an accident

Put bacon in everything

Also set up a kids table and fill up glasses of water. Mark it "vegan town"

it wasn't even really bait, just a reversal of op to add some perspective. that was my read on it anyways

lmao they use gelatin to filter beer

Asparagus skewers.

>Asparagus skewers.

Just the tip?

That's pretty rare. Some beers use isinglass, but that's not as common in the US - and it's only common with certain types of beers.

Budweiser/lite, Keystone, Coors/light, Miller/high life/lite, PBR, etc are all vegan. The top 12 most popular beers in the US are vegan, so at any given BBQ it's pretty much guaranteed there'll be vegan beer.

nah, the whole thing
in fact just put the asparaguses on the grill
doesn't even requires sauce nor fat and it's delicious

I'm not a vegan or vegetarian but people who incessantly make fun of vegans or vegetarians are usually some of the least funny people

case in point

lot of edgy cunts in this thread

easy op. cowboy caviar. look it up, its pretty straight forward

Tell them that it's a barbecue. If they don't want to eat barbecue then they should have stayed home.

You missed the joke buddy

I couldn't be friends with a person like that.

Complaining like that.. Fucking food hipsters.

A bit of meat won't kill you even if you're against eating animals in general and don't do it at home/ if you're selecting the meal. Just be a nice person and fit in.

Drizzle with a little olive oil, pinch of salt and a squeeze of lemon juice it's Godly

Grilled tomatoes, corn, asparagus etc olive oil and salt super easy
Brown rice salad? Toss in some baby peas/corn bell peppers Etc and oil+vinegar dressing
Maybe lay down some foil over the section of grill you're using if you think cross contamination may be a prob, I think you can grill corn in their husks

Maybe put a little note next to the dishes also saying what they're made witch etc to avoid 21 questions

This one's on the house friendo :^)

Grill zucchini, red onion, poblano pepper and pineapple. All on sepperate skewers to make it easier to control the cooking and let your guests pick what they want.

Marinate everything but the pineaple with oil, mirin, salt, pepper and a lot of minced garlic.

Galze the pineapple with brown sugar, vanilla and cloves.

Serve with pita bread and pico de gallo.

Ice cold, large cans of hard cider.

hand them a whole head of lettuce and a knife to slit their wrists with
fucking vegans

Sounds delicious

Thanks

And cook the vegan stuff first on a clean grill. It will keep pretty well in a warm oven while you cook the meat

This thread seems like as good of a place as any to ask this question.

Does anybody know of any good black bean burger recipes?

What type of arsehole brings vegans to a BBQ

Black beans
Zuccini
Red beet
Red onion
Mushrooms
Carrot
Garlic
Red bell pepper
Green bell pepper

tomato paste
dijon mustard
cumin
Coriander leaves
Paprica

Cook beans until tender
Add veggies, preferably grated
Add spices
Cook until stew
reduce
Form patties
use flax if consistency is off

Fry up
Serve with avocado, lettuce, tomato, red onion and good buns

Thanks

allrecipes.com/recipe/85452/homemade-black-bean-veggie-burgers/ Make sure after all veggies are minced, put in a strainer to get rid of excess liquid.

Make them a bean chili and empty this bottle into the pot.

I condone the actions mentioned herein

>grilled fruits/veggies
I do this anyway.
I try to eat balanced to keep the digestive track moving right as opposed to eating the 3lbs of meat I'm inclined to if I don't think.

just serve them buns, burger fixins and condiments.

that seems like an awful lot of work to waste on a vegan

If he's got the right crowd, other people will eat it as well.

Exactly. Good as a palate cleanser

Here's a cool vegetarian recipe I thought of today. (Yeah I know you said vegan.)

>macaroni
>ranch or alfredo sauce
>bacon-flavored TVP pieces (buy a big container from honeyville.com for $15)
>cottage cheese
>assorted salad vegetables
>white vinegar
>salt
>cayenne pepper

It tastes good as fuck tbhfam and has all the nutrients your body needs.

Roasted scallions with Romesco sauce. Fucking delicious

This, I'm not even memeing, seared watermelon is the fuckin bomb.

yea the point of the post was easy ideas and not doing much extra

if they were vegetarian you could make halloumi burgers, there might be a vegan alternative to that.
shred halloumi cheese, carrots, zucchini (whatever veg you want), mix in bowl with egg and some potatoflour and make into burger patties.
shits delicious

that doesn't even make any sense

Have you ever had to feed a vegan? In my experience this usually is an issue.

What are you making for everyone else OP? I'd try to go for an approximate vegan equivalent, so people don't feel like an afterthought. It keeps things from feeling awkward.

Doing burgers, for instance? Maybe grill some portobello caps rubbed with olive oil and rosemary for vegan ones. Or you could actually make some vegan burgers- black beans and brown rice, if well seasoned, make a pretty tasty base- but that tends to be a lot more involved as the trick is always finding a way to get stuff to bind.

Pick some grass out of the lawn and put it on a tray.

Why have you put up a photo of Calpis? I need some of that right now.
