Always be sure to tip your server between 18-20%

>always be sure to tip your server between 18-20%

I don't live in a country where tips are custom.

That looks closer to 45 degrees

not from america but I always tip 10% and I'm happy to do so, most of the time I get a good waiter service.

>normally only tip 10-15% if the service is better than average
>have to tip minimum 20% when sister is visiting even if the service is terrible, because she's worked FoH before and will make a scene if I don't
>once ate out with her -- server was blatantly stoned off his ass (not that I have anything against that, just keep it at home) and forgot to get our drinks at least 3 times and generally was shit, but sister still insisted I tip 20% and was shocked when brother didn't want to tip at all
>never thinks to tip the cooks even though they make shit money compared to waitstaff in my state
TL;DR: tipping is dumb, my sister is dumb

Not tipping is being a fedora. Everyone tips except you edgelords

I always tip 20% if the service is good

Stop going out to eat with her and cook instead

Yeah, do what said and stop going out to eat with her and cook her instead.

>being so cheap that you'll avoid going out to eat with someone so you don't have to tip as much

I don't get the "mandatory % based tipping" meme, so I imagine it's an other weird cultural amerifat thing like cheese not being cheese and made up genders.

If the dude serving you was alright/you are a store regular you tip whatever you feel like or have to spare (which is done close to like 1 out of every 10-15 stores you/people go to) where I come from. It's considered a gift, a thank you, something akin to like making an extra portion of dinner and coffee if you have a technician working over in your house, but not something you HAVE to do or is expected of you.

servers in your country are paid more, that's the difference

Waiters/bartenders in the US generally live off tips

It isn't about the tip, I don't go out to eat with people that will, as he put it, make a scene over something so trivial

How is that legal? Don't you third worlders have something called "minimum wage"?

Yeah but the minimum wage is generally low and even lower for tipped servers

I've worked as a waiter before, people tipped me between 15% and 20% so I tip in that range now that I have a good job

That's the trick; restaurants make you pay their waiters' salary in their stead, and thanks to their shenanigans it has become socially unaceptable to not tip waiters for whatever reason.
You can thank the jews for that.

are they factored into the bill?

filthy jews and their wanting people to make a living wage

So the Jews are responsible for both socialism and capitalism?

Nope you took the job and you knew the pay. You want to get paid normal get a job that pays minimum wage Atleast. You took the job not me I'm not gonna pay what your boss should.

I tip my fedora to you, good sir

I absolutely hate tipping on a percentage. Just because I ordered the steak and not the tendies I don't owe you extra money because it's not like that plate was harder to bring to my table than the other.

Also I eat at a restaurant that my uncle runs, my meal gets comped every time, what would be an appropriate tip when you get all of your meals for free?

>what would be an appropriate tip when you get all of your meals for free?
20% of what it would have cost if you weren't comped.

20% of 0 is close to 10 pounds I think.

Tipping more than 4% is absolute lunacy.

cheap bastard

I only tip well if I want to come back and have better service next time.
Otherwise i'll just round up to the nearest dollar and never go back.

I never tip. Why is it my fault that their boss doesn't pay them enough? Also, why do only certain professions get tipped? If they want a job where they don't have to depend on donations, there are plenty.

Plenty of customs are stupid, but you go along with them so as not to be rude. You don't show up to a formal event in a t-shirt and jeans because that would be rude. If you're in Japan you take off your shoes before entering the house for the same reason. And you stand up at the fucking ballgame when they play the national anthem. If you find yourself in a situation where tipping is customary you tip the customary amount. Plain and simple.

>Why is it my fault that their boss doesn't pay them enough?

It's not your fault. But that's the way the system works, so that's what you're supposed to do. No different than any other tradition, really.

I'm rich, 20% is chump change. I tip 5 dollars on coffee. I'll tip 100 on a 20 dollar plate of food if I like the people.

I also enjoy tipping assholes. I can sit there with my laptop during breakfast and make more than their entire month's wages. Maybe they'll buy a six pack after their shift and reflect upon being a better person... maybe they'll feel some perverse rage towards that asshole who tipped them. Who knows, I don't give a fuck.

Tipping is a discreet means to spread the wealth.

Good for you.

Oh look, another tipping thread. I'd have never expected this type of autistic edgelord shit farm on the 1st page of ck.... Nope, not in a million summers

This. Not my fault restaurants are faggots and that servers don't take this shit to court instead of taking it out on me.

>I don't live

We know.

The employers likely just pay them instead of being jews
